Do not attempt to service a battery unless you are thoroughly familiar with the precautions that must be taken. BATTERY CASES ARE EXPLOSIVEI Batteries may explode with great violence and spraying of acid if a spark or flame is brought near them. A torch, match flame, lighted cigarette or sparks from metal tools accidently contacting both terminal posts could cause ignition of gases.
The battery acid is highly corrosive. Avoid splashing it on skin or clothing. If you touch a battery case or terminal, do not touch your eyes before you wash your hands. In case of accidental acid contact with eyes or skin, flush IMMEDIATELY with a large quantity of water. If acid reaches your eyes, GET MEDICAL ATTENTION AT ONCEI
Batteries today tend to be trouble free if they receive reasonable care. There are four general reasons for battery fallure: namely, failure to add water when needed, prolonged under-charging or over-charging and inadequate capacity.
If you follow the suggestions listed below, the chances are that your will provide satisfactory performance throughout its service· life.
BATTERY WATER
Water is the life of your battery. Add plain water onlyl DO NOT overfill. Add water when tops of plates are exposed and cover them 1/2 inch. Over-filling will cause loss of acid, resulting in poor performance, short life and excessive corrosion. Do not "EVER" add mineral water or acid to battery once it has been put in service.
WATER USAGE
Excessive use of water indicates the battery Is being overcharged. Check regulator setting.
VISUAL INSPECTIONS
Look for cracked cover, case or vent plugs that could permit acid leakage.
