PREFACE

This manual is intended to provide GENERAL product information for the Continuous Haulage System. The illustrations, descriptions and procedures contained in this publication apply only to this Continuous Haulage System. DBT America reserves the right to revise models and designs without prior notice.

This Continuous Haulage System was manufactured under the guidelines, procedures and requirements of the U. S. Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 30, Chapter 1, Subpart 0, Part 75 for underground coal mines, and other applicable non-U. S. regulatory agency standards.

At the completion of the manufacturing process, this Continuous Haulage System was issued the appropriate approval numbers and nameplates indicating it met the technical requirements of these regulatory agencies. Any change to the design or structure of this Continuous Haulage System, without the consent of DBT America, and these regulatory agencies, or any repair or replacement of parts contrary to DBT America's instructions, may invalidate these approvals and render this Continuous Haulage System unsafe to operate.

Strict compliance with all Federal and State Mining laws, regulations and practices regarding the safe operation and maintenance of underground mining equipment and strict adherence to the instructions in this manual is necessary for the personal safety of those working on or around this Continuous Haulage System.

While this manual attempts to anticipate the most important operations and maintenance needs for this Continuous Haulage System, unforeseen circumstances may arise that have not been addressed in this manual. If any concerns or questions arise, please contact your DBT America Service Representative immediately

SAFETY POINTS TO REMEMBER

1. The operator(s) should become familiarized with the machine before operating it in a production environment.

2. The operator and all workers around the machine should be familiar with the location and operation of the panic switches and fire suppression actuator valves.

3. Before tramming the machine, the operator should always visually check the area behind and in front of the machine to assure that there are no personnel or obstacles in its path.

4. Before tramming the machine, the operator should be sure that the trailing cable is not fouled, or in the path of the machine.

5. The operator should always keep all parts of his body within the safety of the operator’s compartment and beneath the protective canopy.

6. All workers should maintain adequate communication with the operator.

7. The operator’s compartment should always be kept clear of anything that might impair the movement or obstruct the vision of the operator.

8. All workers should be in a safe location when the operator is tramming the machine.

9. The machine should never be trammed to the end of the trailing cable.

10. The machine should never be turned off or worked on with hydraulic cylinders supporting a load.

11. Prior to each shift, the entire machine should be visually inspected for damage or wear, paying particular attention to the pins and fasteners.

12. The machine should never be operated without proper lighting. All operating lights should be checked every shift for damage or obstructions.

13. None of the machine components should be physically modified or removed.

14. No one should ride on the machine except the operator.

15. All covers and protective guards should be in place when the machine is operated.

16. Equipment and supplies should not be hauled on the machine.

17. Whenever working on the machine, it should be properly blocked or cribbed so that the hydraulics will not be supporting the load.

18. The hydraulic oil level should always be checked before operating the machine.

19. The hydraulic lines, fittings and components should be inspected for wear or damage prior to each shift.

20. Any hydraulic leak should be repaired immediately with properly sized replacement parts.

DBT America Revised 06 – 07 30” Continuous Haulage Systems 7

21. The hydraulic relief settings are preset and should not be set higher than specified.

22. When a hydraulic cylinder reaches the end of its stroke, the control lever should be released.

23. Power should always be disconnected from machine when servicing or repairing.

24. One should not stand in water while operating or servicing the machine.

25. Extreme caution should be used when operating the machine near trolley wires.

26. The manual position on the auto sequence switch, on the control console, is to be used for jog purposes and conveyor reversing (if material is jammed) only. It should not be used to run the machine continuously.

27. During production, the MBC and PIG receiving ends should be resting on the ground –whenever possible.

OPERATION

The DBT America Continuous Haulage System is designed to provide an efficient means of transporting material from a continuous miner operation to the main conveying system for transporting outside.

The Continuous Haulage System enhances the mining operation by:

1. Enabling the continuous miner to complete its cutting cycle without stopping.

2. Providing a direct means of transporting the mined material to the dump point without downtime attributed to the loading and unloading cycle.

COMPONENT FEATURES AND IDENTIFICATION

1. Figure 1 shows a typical arrangement of the units used in this Continuous Haulage System.

2. Mobile Bridge Carrier with Hoppers (MBC) or Mobile Bridge Carrier Feeder Breaker (MBC-FB)

A. The MBC or MBC-FB follows the discharge boom of the Continuous Miner. The Continuous Miner dumps material into the hopper area of the MBC (or MBC-FB if equipped). See Figures 2 and 3 for location and identification of various components.

3. Chain “Piggyback” Bridge Conveyor (PIG)

A. The first inby bridge conveyor attaches to the discharge boom of the MFB via a pivot pin joint and the opposite end rests on a mobile bridge conveyor by way of a dolly which in turn allows for 5’ 0” of travel during operation. See Figure 5 for location and identification of various components.

4. Mobile Bridge Conveyor (MBC)

A. The Mobile Bridge Conveyor is, in fact, the central figure around which the Full Dimension concept is based. It provides support for the “Piggyback” bridge conveyor, as well as the means to maneuver the system so as to follow the Continuous Miner during its operation. See Figure 2 for location and identification of various components.

5. This manual is for general reference only and is not intended to be used as a parts catalog. Should the need arise for replacement parts; see the parts catalog prepared for the machine in question.
