FAULTS & SAFETY

Off with Electrical Braking (BEB) -

Description:

• The Electrical Braking Signal is used both as a "normal" means of turning off the shovel and as a shutdown method in certain fault situations.

• When the BEB button is pressed or if another fault causes electrical braking to be activated, the reference to all drives goes immediate! y to zero. All motions will begin braking electrically.

• Speed feedback from each motion is monitored.

• When speed feedback is less than 5% on each individual motion, the mechanical brake is set and the drive is turned off (monitoring of speed and brake is performed by Sibas.).

• Sibas confirms that each motion is turned off and that the brake is set. The PLC gives an additional set brake command, providing added safety to the brake control.

• After all drives have turned off the PLC sends the command to discharge the DC Bus and opens the high voltage contactor.

• When electrical braking occurs, after the initial shutdown, the non-faulted drives can restait. This enables the operator to move the shovel even if one drive is not operational.

Faults that cause Electrical Breaking:

I. A delayed shutdown, after the delay time has expired.

2. Any fault from any motion. E.g. if a hoist fault occurs, the hoist brake sets immediately (Sibas Controlled). The swing and crowd motions will electrically brake until the speed is less than 5% and then swing and crowd brakes are set.
