1.1 About these operating instructions
1.1 About these operating instructions
Abbreviations used
These operating instructions describe a load increasing system, which is available as additional equipment. The system is called Mega Wing Lift and is abbreviated in these operating instructions to MWL (Mega W ing Lift).
Validity of theseoperating instructions
These operating instructions only apply to original parts supplied by Deutsche GROVE GmbH and describe the operation of the MWL.
In addition, operation of the truck crane is also subject to all the specifications in the Operating instructions accompanying the GMK7450 for which the MWL was manufactured.
For the operation of the truck crane with the lattice extensions described inthese operating instructions, but without the MWL, the GMK7450 Lattice extension operating instructions apply.
Prerequisites forassembly and operation
The MWL described in these operating instructions may only be operated together with a GROVE GMK7450 truck crane whose serial number is identical with the serial number that is marked on the MWL.
Safety instructions
The operation of GMK7450 with the MWL described in these operating instructions is subject to:
–the basic safety instructions to be found in the subsequent section Basic safety instructions and
–the safety instructions contained in the operating instructions supplied for the GMK7450.
References toother operating instructions
Cross references to other operating or maintenance instructions are shown in the following forms:

The number for the chapter on Rigging work is found at the front, on the second page of the operating instructions specified. or

The corresponding page number can be found in the index, under the entry for Safe load indicator
1.2 Supplementary instructions to the operating instructions for the GMK7450
1.2 Supplementary instructions to the operating instructions for the GMK7450
1.2.1 Addition to the driving mode table
For truck cranes that are supplied with MWL, you must not only observe the specifications in the accompanying GMK7450 operating instructions, but also the following points in addition, so that the axle load of 12 t (26400lbs) is not exceeded during on-road driving.
The removable rests for the rear pendant links have been removed from the basic section of the main boom
The rope grab is fastened on the main boom, either in the front holder or in the rear holder
1.2.2 Addition to the Telescoping emergency program submenu
When the MWL is rigged and the Telescoping emergency program is switched on, the winches of the MWL do not follow automatically when telescoping. For this reason, before using the Telescoping emergency program, please note the information given in the Malfunctions during operation with the MWL chapter; à Telescoping in the emergency program with a rigged MWL, p.10-22.
1.2 Supplementary instructions to the operating instructions for the GMK7450
1.2.3 Addition to applications engineering
Thresholds fortheuse of the main hoist
Use of the MWL makes it possible to lift heavier loads with longer boom lengths. This requires a corresponding increase in the more falls of the hoist rope to be reeved and more hoist rope is needed than for operation without MWL.
This means that when using the main hoist (hoist rope length 460 m (1509 ft)), you cannot reach the ground with the hook block or with the load at certain threshold ranges, with the boom in its steepest position.
In these instances, you can use the auxiliary hoist (hoist rope length 690 m (2263 ft)) or, if the use allows it, you can make use of correspondingly longer lifting gear.
The following table provides an overview of the minimum hook heights for use of the main hoist at the threshold ranges.
1.2 Supplementary instructions to the operating instructions for the GMK7450
Three-part rope holding rod
For operation with MWL, the accompanying three-part rope holding rod must be installed.
A continuous, solid rope holding rod is a standard fitting in the main boom head (2).
When the side head sheaves (1) are installed, you cannot pull the standard rope holding rod (1) out any more.
Therefore, replace the standard rope holding rod (2) with the accompanying three-part rope holding rod (3) before use; à Installing/removing the three-part rope holding rod, p.6-4.
Sheaves for operation with lattice extension
A deflection sheave with support roller must be installed on the foot section of the lattice extension for operation with MWL and boom extension or with MWL and luffing jib.
If the deflection sheave with support roller (1) was not already installed when the foot section was delivered, it has been delivered with the MWL and must be fitted in the place of the deflection sheave with the small safety roller (2) before first use; à Installing the deflection sheave with support roller, p.7-5.
1.3 Basic safety instructions
1.3.1 Warnings and symbols
The following definitions and symbols are used in the operating instructions to highlight particularly important information:
GThis symbol indicates hazards related to the operation described which may cause personal injury. The type of danger (e.g. risk of fatal or non-fatal injury, or risk of crushing) is normally specified before the warning.
SThis symbol indicates dangers which could put objects at risk, e.g. damage to the truck crane, the load or the environment.
BThis symbol alerts you to situations where there is a risk of receiving an electric shock.
OThis symbol reminds you that you are working with substances which pose a risk to the environment. Take particular care. Further information on handling substances that pose a risk to the environment; à Maintenance manual, Chapter Safety and environmental protection.
The vertical line to the left of the warning text indicates the following: this text, regardless of its length, relates to the warning symbol.
HThe hand with the pointing finger indicates passages that contain additional instructions and tips regarding truck crane operation.
sThis symbol indicates that the topic is continued on the next page. Turn to the next page.
Horizontal lines always indicate the start or the end of an example. The text used for examples is in a different font.

1.4 Intended use
The truck crane GMK7450 is constructed in accordance with the latest technology and the recognized safety regulations. Nevertheless, personal injury to the operator or a third party as well as damage to the crane and other property may occur during use.
The truck crane may only be modified with the consent of the manufacturer.
The truck crane GMK7450 may only be used when in excellent working condition and for its intended purpose, and with due attention to safe operation and any possible hazards.
Malfunctions that may affect the safe operation of the unit are to be corrected immediately.
The GMK7450 truck crane may only be operated at temperatures of between –25 to +40 °C (–13 to +104 °F) unless fitted with the appropriate special equipment.
The GMK7450 truck crane may only be used to vertically lift loads in the authorized rigging modes using a hook block that is reeved to the hoist rope. The weight and centre of gravity of the loads must be known. Any other use of the crane is not considered to represent intended use.
The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from the improper or unauthorized use of the truck crane GMK7450. The user shall take full responsibility for any such use.
Intended use also entails
–Following the complete crane documentation consisting of the operating instructions, the lifting capacity table, the outrigger pressure table and the safety manual
–Adhering to the inspection and maintenance requirements specified in the maintenance manual.
