Pictures of SRB cycles, etc were developed as bitmaps (.bmp files) and then converted to .png files (using GIMP or Paint.net) to reduce the size. The .png file is then inserted into the document as appropriate. Pictures are stored in the “manual\pictures” subdirectory. Then .png files are in the “manual\pictures\png pictures” directory.
1. PSA key, Star key, 0-key, L-key
When referring to keys it is always 7-key or Batch Adv key. Never capitalize the word “key”. If referring to the key using the character (e.g., 7) then use a dash (Ctl-Shift-dash so it won’t break at the end of a line); if referring to the key using the name (e.g., Batch Adv) do not use a dash.
2. The 5-key is the Umbrella key, not the Umbrella Lock key.
3. “hot key” or “hot keys”, not “hotkey”
4. Umbrella Lock zone – don’t capitalize zone. You don’t even need to use the word zone unless you are referring to the distance or one zone as compared to another. Usually, just Umbrella Lock is fine.
5. “deadman” is one word we should not use! The correct term is “man-in-place”.
6. Used in a sentence it should refer to parameter “Umpty Squat”. See the bolding; also no square brackets should be left over from older versions.
7. “Menu Navigation keys”, not “Menu Scroll keys”
8. No “mastertime”, only “Key-time”. Don’t capitalize “time”; use the dash.
9. Bankpush, except when referring to the key. Then it is Bank Push key.
10.Quickstop, not Quick Stop or QuickStop or Quick stop.
11.Lockout, not LockOut or lockout or Lock Out or Lock out or lock out
12.Primepoint, not PrimePoint or primepoint or prime point
13.SRB Restart and SRB Newstart – capitalize “SRB” and “N”ewstart and “R”estart.
14.Autosequence – one cap, no space
Hidden sections and paragraphs are used to hide/unhide sections that should only be included based on the mine configuration. Conditions to hide or unhide these items use variables that are set based on the mine configuration.
If the conditions are all entered as described below, setting the ShowAll variable to 1 will cause all sections to be displayed. WARNING: NEVER edit the spacing between paragraphs or sections if ShowAll is 0; you will accidentally delete hidden sections without even knowing it.
Background
1. The optional sections and paragraphs should be colored with either Pale Yellow, Pale Green or Yellow 4.
2. Adjacent sections or paragraphs should not be given the same color.
3. Paragraph colors are set by Format->Paragraph->Background.
4. Section colors are set by Format->Section->Options->Background.
Optional Sections
1. To make a large portion of the manual optional, highlight the entire portion, choose Insert->Section. In the section dialog, give the section a meaningful name; check the Hide option, and enter the condition. Go to the background tab and set the color.
2. Sections can be nested – make sure they have a different background color.
3. Hidden paragraphs can also be included within a section – make sure they have a different background color.
Optional Paragraphs
1. To make a paragraph optional, position the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph, then choose Insert->Fields->Other, Functions tab, hidden paragraph; then enter the condition.
2. After applying the condition, set the background color using Format->Paragraph->Background.
1. All conditions must start with: (ShowAll==0) AND
2. All remaining parts of the condition must be in parenthesis. E.g., (ShowAll==0) AND (FlipperFcts==0)
3. Remember that when the condition is true, the section or paragraph is hidden; not the other way around.
1. Variables are set within this section of the manual in the Configuration Table below.
2. Because all conditions begin with “(ShowAll==0) AND”, setting the ShowAll variable to 1 causes all sections of the manual to be visible for editing.
3. Additional variables can be added to any part of the table. Type an appropriate name, then choose Insert->Fields->Other and the Variables tab. Use the type “Set variable”. Enter the variable name that was typed previously into the “Name” field and enter the value into the “Value” field.
Hark!! Once the manual is configured and saved for a specific mine, you're gonna review it – and you're gonna change stuff that really should be changed in the master manual. Don't do it!! You'll hate yourself later for it. Or someone else will. Go back and change the master manual. You'll be a better person for it.
But remember, NEVER edit the spacing between paragraphs or sections if ShowAll is 0; you will accidentally delete hidden sections without even knowing it.
To prepare a manual for delivery to a customer the following steps must be done:
1. Save the base manual, PMC-R Operator's Manual.odt, as the minespecific manual (e.g., PMC-R Operator's Manual – West Elk 02_11_33.odt) in the same folder (\pmc-r\base\manual).
2. Change the title from Standard to the mine name on the cover page of the manual and change the part number too.
3. Set the configuration variables in the Configuration Table by doubleclicking the variable and changing the value in the Edit Fields dialog that comes up.
4. Using PDMLink, export (into the Manuals folder) the following drawings as bitmaps with a resolution of 2714 x 1782:
Face Configuration drawings
headgate layout drawing
shield configuration drawings
5. Use GIMP, rotate the drawings 90º counterclockwise so the title block is at the upper right and save as PNG files. If you don't reduce the picture size by saving as a PNG file, it will cause really strange behaviors and formatting issues in OpenOffice Writer.
6. Replace the drawings at the end of the manual with the correct drawings for the mine. (Delete the existing drawings and use Insert->Picture>From File to get the new picture. The picture size may have to be reduced to make it fit on the page. Reduce it a lot first, then get it on the right page, then increase the size one step at a time until it pushes to the next page, then reduce size one step to get it back on the correct page.)
7. Check the text and remove any non-applicable comments related to the drawings.
8. Add the Display Glossary following the instructions under that section. (Delete the instructions.)
9. The paragraph and section background colors can be cleared on the optional portions that are still visible if desired.
10.Hide this section! (and remember the next 2 steps).
11.Rebuild the index by right-clicking in it and selecting “Update Index/Table”
12.Ensure the page number and gutter space are correct on the first page of the manual (with the heading “Description”). Add a blank page at the end of the index to ensure the Description page is on the correct side of the paper.
13.Add “This page intentionally left blank!” to back of cover page and optional blank page from step 12.
14.Visually check page formatting throughout the document.
15.Save the document; then export as a pdf by choosing File->Export as PDF
