INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION In choosing a New Holland Big Baler, you have purchased a machine designed to operate in a wide range of crops and conditions whilst maintaining a high level of reliability and performance. It is, therefore, the purpose of this course to advise and instruct our operators on how to get the best from the Big Baler using the available machine adjustments, different operational techniques and optional equipment when necessary.

It is also through our operator courses that we are able to meet our customers and learn about their operational concerns. It is by listening to these comments that we are able to improve and develop our machines to accommodate your needs in the field. The notes are provided as a guide and future reference to this course. We hope you will find them useful, but they are not intended as a substitute for the Operator's Manual and time spent reading this valuable document will be worthwhile.

Throughout these notes "left" and "right" are determined from the rear, facing the direction of travel of the machine during operation.

Should you require service parts, it may be necessary when purchasing them from your local dealer to quote your machine's serial number on the base of the unit.

Therefore, it is suggested that these important numbers are written on the front of the Service Parts Manual, for quick reference. (For detailed locations of serial numbers, see your Operator's Manual).

It is true that the manufacturer can help, but the best efforts can be destroyed by a single careless act by the operator, therefore: - Always stop the engine when adjusting or lubricating the machine.

- Never operate the machine with guards removed or missing.

- Think. Applied common sense can save more lives and limbs than any prevention programme.

The material to be baled is collected from the windrow by the Super Sweep pick-up (3) and is passed up into the machine beneath the windguard. The double windguard (4) makes certain that the crop is held positively against the pick-up and packer tines, ensuring a smooth positive feed at all times.

The floor roll (2) is positioned directly behind the pick-up and will deliver the incoming crop to the belts (1) which serve to further convey the material upwards into the small core forming cavity above.

Moments later bale formation begins as a core is created by the pivot and middle rolls (6) (7), curling the material around on itself and causing it to rotate.
