There are currently 10 industrial parks in Hesse with about 230 users and about 40.000 employ-ees. This is a very encouraging development.

Plants as well as Waste Management including Waste Transports The competent authorities for the enforcement of the waste regulations in Hesse are the regional councils in Darmstadt, Gießen and Kassel, which are supervisory controlled by the Ministry. As well as the following significant international topics are executed in these waste units:

EU Resources Strategy The circular flow economy is an essential contribution for a sustainable waste management in Hesse, which helps to conserve the natural resources. By order of the HMUELV, currently a “Strategy of Resources for Hesse” is being developed. Purpose of this order is to prognosticate the prospective demand for raw-material of the Hessian industry. In addition possible subjects concerning the resource potential of waste should be identified and

It has become evident that an industrial area offers numerous advantages for all users of the lo-cation, also for company founders. The network of different, independent companies makes valu-able synergic effects accessible: They profit from a common efficient infrastructure and will have a positive influence on one another, because they are connected by the research and development including everything from production to marketing and distribution. But also new questions of execution result from the concerted use of an industrial park concerning the relationship between operators, users and environmental authorities. In order to answer these questions, under the supervision of the HMUELV a workgroup had compiled recommendations which are able realise executive decisions that are appropriate and legal after complete consideration. Umwelt Allianz – A Voluntary Agreement for a Sustainable local policy In the year 2000 the Federal Government of Hesse und the Hessian economy founded the “Umwelt Allianz”, a cooperation between economy and administration in order to ensure a high envi-ronmental industrial standard in Hesse.
