Hermann Sons Life launches new website

SAN ANTONIO – Hermann Sons Life is excited to announce the launch of our new website, a significant step forward in improving how we connect with our members and the community. This updated website is designed to be user-friendly, with a fresh look and easier navigation. The website address remains hermannsonslife.org.

“I am so proud of our new website,” President and CEO Robin Czarnek said. “Our team put in countless hours to provide a better, more userfriendly customer experience with improved navigation, more features and enhanced security measures. We hope our members will enjoy using the new site!”

The last website was developed in 2016. We recognized it was time for a new website due to its age, outdated software, its lack of ability to function efficiently and to avoid the risk of security issues.

Intensive research was done to find the most experienced, knowledgeable and affordable website company to take on a website of this magnitude.

Backyard Studios, an awardwinning digital marketing agency in San Antonio, was hired to create a new Hermann Sons Life website early in 2024.

“We’re thrilled to launch the new and improved Hermann Sons Life website! This update is designed to better showcase Hermann Sons Life’s incredible benefits while making it easier than ever for members and visitors to connect. We’re excited about the opportunities this website will bring to support and grow the Hermann Sons Life community,” Cameron Brooks, Backyard Studios Digital

Marketing Director, said.

Home Office officers and the Communications Department have been working closely with the Backyard Studios’ team to develop an enhanced site for all members’ and potential members’ online needs from product and living benefit information, to agent contact and member benefit registration for camp and dance.

The new website features improved user experience, better search engine optimization (SEO), enhanced brand image, improved security, better mobile responsiveness and

up-to-date software to stay current with the latest web design trends.

The improvements ensure the website works well on all devices, so whether you’re on a phone, tablet or computer, you’ll have a seamless experience.

It is Hermann Sons Life’s goal to offer members their account information and payment options on the website. A whole, new business administration system is required for those website features and is under development.

A new annuity product will be rolled out soon that offers better returns for our members .

Our camp program was revamped to provide a better experience for our campers

Our retirement home residents were moved to a more comfortable facility for their safety and well-being

Last year presented challenges for many, but it was also filled with blessings and breakthroughs Together, we accomplished numerous goals that pave the way for the longterm sustainability and success of Hermann Sons Life (HSL)

Thank you for helping us brighten the holiday season for so many Hermann Sons Life’s mission of strengthening community and giving back was in

full force this holiday season With the support of our staff, members, and lodges, we were able to:

Employee Spotlight

Gunnink dedicated Retirement Home manager for many years

COMFORT – Brenda Gunnink has worked for Hermann Sons Life at the Retirement Home since Aug. 1, 2002. For 14 of those years, she has served as the Retirement Home manager. The word dedicated is not big

enough to describe Brenda’s commitment. She has worked holidays, weekends and nights in addition to her regular work hours to make sure residents were fed, safe, warm in the winter and as cool as possible during the hot Texas summers.

She is not only a devoted member of the Member Ben-

efits Department team, but also a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She makes stocking caps for patients battling cancer in her very rare spare time.

I have enjoyed getting to know Brenda over the years and look forward to seeing her help at Camp this summer!

Home Office presents service awards

Sons Life Home Office employees were presented service awards at the employee Christmas

held Dec. 19. On left, LEFT – President and CEO Robin Czarnek, left, presented a 15-year service award to Vice President of Sales Teresa Saathoff. RIGHT – Vice President of Member Benefits Cecily Kelly, left, presented a 10-year service award to Member Benefits Representative Tammi Sutherland. Following a fajita meal with all the trimmings and desserts, officers and employees enjoyed a gift exchange game.

Counselor-in-Training program open to past HSL campers Camp News

COMFORT – Greetings from Comfort and Happy New Year! Wow! It is hard to believe we are at the end of another year!

We’ve had a very busy fall. While preparing for a new and exciting 2025 camp program, we’ve also been hosting several groups who rented the facilities. I love having the facility busy serving churches, Girl Scouts, outdoor education programs and more. If anyone in your family or friends are looking for a facility to host an event, please share my contact information, Ian Brassett, 830-995-3223, ianb@hermannsonslife.org

Vice President of Member Benefits Cecily Kelly and I have been working hard on setting up the new camp management software for registration that will streamline all the paperwork into one location making it an easier process for parents. We hope to have enrollment beginning for our junior members by mid-January.

This summer enrollment will be open to non-Hermann Sons Life members. Registration will not open for non-members until March. Members will pay a reduced price in comparison to non-members.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the many CITs and returning staff members as we develop plans for a coed camp this summer. I’m looking forward to blending the best from both Riverside and Hilltop. We will hear more singing (thanks to the CITs) and dancing this upcoming summer.

Counselor-in-Training

CIT applications are still being accepted. CITs are vital to our successful operation of camp. We believe it is important for us to grow our own staff, and we’d like to invite you to join our CIT (Counselor-In-Training) program. Our CIT program is a leadership program designed for past Hermann Sons Life campers aged 15 and 16 (On Sept. 1,

2025) whose goal is to become a camp counselor.

A CIT is a mix of camper –counselor. Please understand that while tuition is paid, the CIT is not a camper. We set higher expectations for our CITs. Our campers look up to their CITs and often mimic and pattern their attitudes and behaviors after CITs (and counselors). Please read the CIT Job Description included with the CIT application.

As a CIT and potential staff member, you will be peeking behind the scenes at what makes the camp tick. You will begin to see camp through the eyes of a staff member. Being a staff member at camp is an incredibly fun summer camp job. It is, however, hard work. It is a job. The needs and wants of the campers are always paramount in our actions.

This program focuses on making sure that you, as a CIT candidate, are a match to be a counselor at camp. It is just as important for you to determine if being a counselor at Hermann Sons Life is a fit for your summers. If you accept the responsibility of being a CIT and fully immerse yourself into the program, I think you will realize that being a counselor at camp provides for so much personal growth and is so much more rewarding than being a camper!

We do expect that our CIT program will be very similar to previous summers. Why be a CIT?

• Gain a behind-the-scenes experience of the camp commu-

nity.

• Establish job and character references.

• Develop new skills.

• Challenge yourself regarding personal growth and expanded self-esteem through leadership opportunities.

• Gain the ability/skills needed to work with children in a camp community, after school program or any youth program.

• Earn community service hours.

• Have fun helping kids.

• Learn to work as a team. How to become a CIT-1

STEP ONE:

The CIT-1 APPLICANT (not the parent) is to DOWNLOAD the application (available at hermannsonslife. org)

COMPLETE the application

and SAVE IT AS “Last Name_First Name_ 2025 CIT application RETURN IT TO : ianb@hermannsonslife.org.

Please make sure you download the fillable PDF form.

The CIT-1 program is for past Hermann Sons Life campers aged 15 (as of Sept. 1, 2025).

The CIT-2 program is for past Hermann Sons Life campers aged 16 (as of Sept. 1, 2025) and who have successfully completed the CIT-1 program.

STEP TWO:

Interview with the Executive Camp Director. We typically receive between 90-150 candidates to interview for the limited availability. Be sure to request an interview time slot as soon as possible. For your convenience, the interviews will be scheduled

via Skype, FaceTime, or Google Meet/Chat. Schedule the interview at:

https://calendly.com/ianbrassett/hermann-sons-life-interview

STEP THREE:

Successful applicants will be invited to enroll in the CIT program in early January. Spaces for successful CIT-1s will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

STEP FOUR:

The final step will be to provide the camp with three (non-family member) references. This can be teachers, coaches, clergy, etc. Directions for collecting references will be sent out after the CIT candidate has enrolled.

The cost of the CIT program is $320/week. (Includes a non-refundable $20 camp store voucher.)

New year good time to review insurance needs

Happy New Year from everyone in the Hermann Sons Life Sales Department. We want every member to know we appreciate their membership and referrals. This year, 2024, was our third year to be in the Medicare world and we loved assisting every member that called us for help in figuring out the best Medicare Plan. We have a great Medicare team onboard available year-round to help you.

Start the New Year right:

Evaluate your insurance and annuity needs

As the calendar turns to a new year, it is the perfect time to take stock of your financial goals and ensure your insurance and annuity plans align with your future. Life changes, and so do your needs. A quick evaluation can help you stay on track for a secure and prosperous 2025.

Why the New Year is ideal for a review

The start of a new year brings fresh opportunities to reassess your priorities. Life events like getting married, having a child, buying a home or nearing retirement may have shifted your financial plan. Taking the time to evaluate your insurance and annuity policies ensures you are not only protecting your loved ones but also maximizing your financial growth potential.

Key questions to ask yourself:

• Do I have enough life insurance coverage? Life insurance is about protecting those you care about most. If your family has grown or your income has increased, it may be time to in-

crease your coverage.

• Are my beneficiaries up to date? Life events can impact your choice of beneficiaries. Ensure your policies reflect your current wishes to avoid complications later.

• Am I savings enough for retirement? Annuities can provide a reliable stream of income in retirement. Consider whether your current contributions and plans align with your retirement timeline and goals.

• Does my policy fit my current needs? Different life stages require different solutions. You may need to adjust your policy to better suit where you are in life.

Benefits of an annual review:

• Peace of mind knowing your

family’s financial future is secure.

Cost Efficiency: Avoid paying for coverage you do not need or missing out on better options.

• Future Preparation: Ensure your plans align with major life milestones or retirement goals.

How Hermann Sons Life can help:

At Hermann Sons Life, we specialize in providing life insurance, annuities and Medicare solutions that grow with you. Our experienced team is here to review your policies and ensure they meet your needs.

Take the first step toward financial confidence in 2025. Schedule your free insurance review today and start the year with the peace of mind you deserve.

Howie’s Happenings

Howie and Beau enjoy guests during holidays

NEW

– The boys have had quite a month. They had a long visit with Tig while our daughter traveled for work. They also got to see Krypto and Oakley for the holidays.

Howie went with me to present the fundraiser donation to Heart of Texas/HOTK9 so he could say hello to his friends there. They were so excited to see Howie thriving.

Dave and I decided we were finally safe to get a new couch but and that a couch cover would be in order. The boys apparently thought the couch cover looked like a fun chew toy and were headed out the doggie door with it.  Luckily, Dave caught them in time.  We have found that cover in some interesting places including on the stairs.

Beau also stole a bag of shake powder from the kitchen island and took off on a run. I was across the room and couldn’t get to him in time, so Dave had to chase him to get it back. Thankfully, Dave caught him in time again and we dodged what could have been a major issue since the shakes were chocolate. Beau’s been in ornery mode, so we’re having to keep a close eye on him every minute.

The boys were VERY excited to receive a Christmas gift from New Braunfels Lodge member, Connie Krause. Connie brought them bones and they were beside themselves. They have been occupied with those bones ever since receiving them, so they were definitely a hit and have helped provide some peace as Beau in particular has been getting into things he shouldn’t be.

Tig’s been working to keep the boys in line and make sure they know who’s in charge. She finds the boys’ energy levels (especially Beau) to be a bit much. She has decided that the guest room belongs to her

During Thanksgiving, the boys made a new friend, Peter, who joined us for Thanksgiving.

Howie was so smitten with him that he followed him everywhere. Poor Peter had Howie all over him the entire time.

Howie and Beau wanted to introduce you to their handsome pal, Chewy. He has the cutest little tongue flaps and adorable ears I am such a sucker for.
