DearMorahLinda,
Writing a letter that would capture 36 years of leadership in no easy feat! What can be said that has not already been said? The accomplishments speak for themselves: bringing financial solvency to the institution from a very precarious starting point, overseeing the move to a new building, instituting the Hebrew Academy CPE, negotiating countless contracts and collective agreements, securing grants and opportunities, and the list goes on. These are the tangible things that everyone can read about. But there is the intangible, the indelible mark that you leave on the people and the lives of all those who crossed your path over the years that remain. Your guidance and patience in helping those who worked for you and with you knew no bounds, and I will always be grateful for your kindness and generosity on my own career path here at HA as well. I learned a lot from you over the years, beyond the obvious of finances and unions, but how to be sure to always make time for anyone who needs to speak with me, understanding that the importance of showing this respect. You taught me how to sit through uncomfortable meetings without reacting (or letting anyone see you sweat!). You taught me how to always remain a lady, no matter how others behave! You ensured that the kindness, the chesed and the hakarat hatov that distinguish HA from any other organization became part of the culture of the school, and just part of TTWWADI (“That’s The Way We Always Do It” remember our sessions with Jonathan Cannon?).
On a lighter note, you taught me that sometimes, it is better to “eat your salad” than to express your opinion (even if you are totally right!), that meeting with the Police constables from Station 9 while wearing a pink wig is nothing to be concerned about, that you have an entire wardrobe of Henna-worthy kaftans of varying lengths that just might fit a say taller, highly Ashkenazi colleague in a pinch, and of course, that there truly is only one cake recipe worth making on Passover- I think the entire school has that recipe! We have been through many ups and downs over the years, some hard times, some sad times, many tears and much laughter, but through it all, you were a constant, a rock. We are slowly forging our paths in a post-Linda era, but know that the groundwork you lay has created a solid foundation for those who follow.
Linda, it is these intangible moments, the ones that do not make it onto a CV that are your true legacy. Those are the moments, the gestures, the words, that I think you will find echoed throughout the pages of this memory book, they are the true testament to your 36 years here at HA.
Morah Linda, mazal tov on your retirement. Mazal Tov on 36 years of dedicated service to our children and their families, for the legacy you leave us all, and on a personal note, for your friendship and your guidance throughout my own career. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement with your beautiful family.
With much love, LAURA

We wanted to take a moment to express our profound gratitude to our family Hebrew Academy. Over 13 years ago, we embarked on this journey with our son Jacob in CPE and it has since been a guiding light of learning, growth, and values for our family. You have always gone above and beyond; we cannot thank you enough. Our family’s deep connection with Hebrew Academy is not solely defined by the institution’s walls but by the spirit, values, and love reverberating within them. Our gratitude, respect, and alignment with these values are beyond words. Every memory crafted here, every lesson instilled, and every bond formed holds an invaluable place in our hearts. The unwavering dedication, love, and passion with which the teachers, Rabbis and staff approach their roles have shaped Jacob, and continue influencing our daughter’s Daphna and Alexandra’s journey at Hebrew Academy. We could not have been happier at every level, educationally and socially. Hebrew Academy is our pride and a real success. We can attest to this with our son Jacob, who graduated this past year. We will never be able to express enough gratitude for all the hard work, dedication, academic excellence and love.

Dear Hebrew Academy Friends
Before Linda joined the Hebrew Academy, I worked with her at AJDS during my fouryear term as president. When Linda left for Hebrew Academy, I knew there that this important school was getting a gem. It is hard to believe that Linda has been with you for 35 years as it seems not that long ago that Linda, Monette, and I were a team at AJDS. Those were wonderful years and Linda was an integral and vital part of the team.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Linda for years of service to Jewish education in Montreal and her outstanding achievements at Hebrew Academy. Linda, I thank you, I appreciate you, and I wish you every success in your future endeavors.

I want to wish you the very best of luck as you enter the next stage of your life. I can tell you that I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement. I don’t miss work at all which means that I was ready to leave. I hope you will enjoy the well-deserved new schedule to your days and take advantage of the time to enjoy your kids and grandkids.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the best,

Good evening Linda,
We received the email announcement of your retirement, we were both happy and sad of this news , we are happy for you that finally you will have the liberty and the time to take care of yourself and your family, finally to be focused on everything you always wanted to achieve. We are sad to see you go and not have a special, understanding, sensible, honourable person as you at the school that was a ןמאנ חילש from Hashem to advocate and take care of our children as yours for both their Jewish education and social integration.
Honestly, Candice and myself can’t thank you enough for all these years we were blessed to have you by our side at the school We wish you from the bottom of our hearts to fully enjoy your retirement to the fullest
May Hashem bless you and your family for each and every act of Hessed you did with us.

Hello Linda
I received the beautiful email from Laura about your imminent retirement. You have been synonymous with Hebrew Academy for so many years. I can’t imagine how many people it will take to replace you It will be the end of an era for the school and an exciting new chapter for you and the family. I look forward to the celebration. All the best for the future.
Rachel Archibald
STAN PEERLES
I am glad to hear that you are retiring and especially that we will see you more in Israel!! I received the announcement as well from the Hebrew Academy. It was a very nice and well deserved tribute. However, I felt that it missed an important point in that it focused largely on your financial and administrative leadership of the school. I always felt that we were full partners in the educational and religious leadership of the school. Your commitment to the educational and religious values of the school came to expression in several ways in your work:
1. The fiscal management of the school was never divorced from the overall school vision. The question was always, first and foremost, what goals do we want to reach with our students and our community, and then how can we reach those goals with fiscal responsibility?
2. You always conducted yourself in accordance with the Jewish values of the school, with integrity, a strong commitment to both halacha and religious Zionism, kindness, and sensitivity. While this is something that should be self-evident in a Jewish school, it is sadly missing in many day schools.
3. I know that you spearheaded much chessed that was fostered below the radar, with discretion and without any desire for appreciation or accolades. One such case, as an
example, was a single-parent child whose mother was on welfare that we took in while the mother was studying for conversion. Not only did the child attend tuition free, but I was aware that you sent them food and other support (like arba'at haminim) to help them along.
It was truly an honor for me to partner with you in advancing the school and the Hebrew Academy community. The fact that you overlapped with at least 7 educational directors (I've lost count), has given the school the stability to maintain itself over the years. I am also grateful that we have been able to maintain our relationship over these many years.
I wish you much happiness and success in your retirement and look forward to seeing you in Artzeinu.
Bivracha, Stan
RABBI EDDIE SHOSTAK
Hi Linda,
I wanted to take a moment to offer my sincere gratitude and appreciation to you after the notice was sent out of your pending retirement.
You have been the steady rock at HA for so long and certainly for my 16+ years working in the HA community. You were one of the first to greet and welcome me to the HA family and you have been an essential player in my professional growth.
We have just returned from a Shabbaton that while I am sure by now you have learned of some of its difficult moments, it was also an uplifting Shabbat that reached new heights for our school in so many ways. This Shabbat is just an example representative of everything that happens at Hebrew Academy that all have your stamp on them (literally and figuratively) in you setting the systems in place for them to happen.
Thank you for all your years of dedication and service to HA and beyond. May Hashem bless you with many years of hatzlacha and bracha in good health. םרכש םלשי ,אוה ךורב שודקה ,הנומאב רוביצ יכרצב םיקסועש ימ לכו b'vracha, Eddie.
MORRIE AND JORDANA LEVY
Dear Linda,
On behalf of Jordana, Maayan, Eitan, Tal, Zac, and I, thank you for the tremendous devotion, dedication, hard work, and labour of love that you have given to our beloved Hebrew Academy over the past 35 years.
The name Linda Lehrer is synonymous with HA. The excellent education both in and out of the classroom that my family has benefitted from HA is largely due to your investment in our school.
The wonderful memories that we have of HA is attributed in a large part to your vision and commitment to Hebrew Academy.
HA has been and continues to be a vital institution and part of the Levy family.
On a personal note, thank you for supporting my involvement in the high school basketball program for the 32 years of my coaching amazing student-athletes.
Thank you for being a mentor to me when I was involved as a lay leader at HA. Most importantly, thank you for being a role model to me and my family.
You are an inspiration. HA was and is your crowning jewel. You have been more than an employee of our school. You are what makes our school so special and great.
As you pivot and transition to the next exciting and meaningful stage of your life, please know that you have impacted my family’s life and the lives of hundreds in such a positive manner.
May HaShem give you the strength and good health to enjoy the next phase of your life with your husband, Jack, and your family.
You have left a priceless legacy at Hebrew Academy.
May you continue to go from strength to strength!

Hi Linda,
How are you doing?
I was both happy and sad when I heard you were officially retiring. Happy because you deserve (B”H) to enjoy your family, and sad for selfish reasons as we (and H.A.) will feel a huge void in the community for ALL that you have done for us.
I wish you & Jack (and your whole family) good health & happiness.
Shabbat Shalom.

BETTY BENSIMON
Shabbat Shalom.
Betty.
EVA LUDVIG
Say it isn’t so, Linda. Hebrew Academy will not be the same without your presence and unassuming leadership. It would not be the outstanding educational institution it is today without your many years of dedication and hard work. I guess you informed the Presidents last evening. Now I’m even more sorry I wasn’t there. I hope to have a chance to say a proper thank you in person sometime soon.BTW…retirement is pretty good from someone who has now been retired for 8 years. Welcome to the club. Regards. Eva
VICKY AND JIMMY SHIZGAL
I know you aren’t leaving yet but Jimmy and I want to thank you for all your tremendous work and help through all our years at HA. I personally can attest to the fact that most people have NO idea of the day to day work that you do behind the scenes to make HA run and to keep it not only afloat but financially successful. You will be a powerhouse that will be hard to replace but we are VERY happy that you will be able to have some well deserved me time in the near future. Mazel tov on your decision to retire!

Dearest Linda
I was so sad to see that email. I cannot properly describe the amount of בוטה תרכה I feel to you over the past many
years my kids are lucky enough BH to be in HA.
I will always feel such an appreciation and warmth in my heart for all you have done for us.
You made my kids feel like HA is their second home no matter what.
You stood by us, selflessly and with the utmost care all these years. You helped us the most, and always thought of us whenever help was given in any way to HA. From tuition, to lulavs, to basketball and more you were always someone we could count on.
Whoever will fill your role at HA, can never fill your shoes. You are simply the best and the kindest.
May Hashem bless you for all your goodness and kindness and grant you all the bless always.
May you enjoy much nachas from your children and grandchildren. May Hashem pay you back a million fold for everything With much admiration and love

Hi Linda,
Congratulations on your retirement. I am definitely envious. Your total devotion to HA was and is much appreciated by all who went to HA, the parents, alumni and those involved now. I understand that they will hire three people to replace you. That says volumes. Enjoy your new life.
We are working on the wedding and I noticed you and Jack haven't replied yet. We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the wedding. Let us know your plans. Shalom

Hi Mrs. Lehrer,
I hope this email finds you well.
I just saw the email from the school announcing your retirement.
I still remember my first day at HA in the 4 year old class. You had met me with my sister Tamar, Shoshana, and gave me a warm welcome to the school.
You’ve kept the standard high for HA, and this is the reason we have come back as parents.
Thank you for your service these past 35 years. Wishing you an amazing retirement, in health and happiness, with lots of nachat from your children and grandchildren.
Kindly,

Hi Linda,
Mazel Tov on the most deserved honour. You gave more than 1000 percent to the school, ensuring its smooth running, success, and educational excellence, not to mention its continued student enrolment. The school was very privileged to have had your expertise and leadership which was the glue that kept the school together for over 35 years. I also benefited from your kindness when Chagit was very ill. I so appreciated your support.
As well, I wish you a refuah shelamah.
May Hashem bless you with a complete recovery.
Warmest regards to Jackie.
Enjoy you most deserved honour.
