Sailor’s Awards Night

2021/22年度傑出海員頒獎夜

It was the biggest night of the Club’s social calendar and after a year-long hiatus, a merry band of sailors descended on the restaurant for a fun-filled evening that celebrated our sailor’s achievements over the past year.

Anticipation was running high, and the mood was buzzing (and not just because of the complimentary drinks on-hand) with some sailors attempting to sneak a peek at the newly engraved names on the awards.

Overseeing the evening’s ceremonies was the Sailing Centre’s very own Rob Allen who welcomed members back in person and commented how wonderful it was to see the Club so lively and boisterous once again.

Commodore Don Johnston kicked things off with a welcome message and echoed Allen’s calls, “I am so pleased to welcome you all back,” he said. The Commodore also gave members a reminder about the upcoming General Meeting of Members to ratify the Club’s new articles of association before wishing luck to all the sailors.

With a five-minute warning, and after a lively scramble to the bar to keep the drinks flowing, it was time for the first of the four award categories—Community. This category celebrated the achievements of the sailors for the Scallywag Foundation and Children’s Cancer Fund. Hebe’s sailors have supported the CCF for a number of years and thanks to their amazing contributions, they have enabled a number of cancer patients to undergo much-needed, expensive therapeutic treatments.

當晚是遊艇會的日曆上最盛大的 一晚。經過一年的休息，一眾航海 員聚在餐廳慶祝一年間的成就，度 過了充滿歡樂的一晚。

大家熱烈期待，並非常興奮（不只 因為手上的飲料），有些海員更嘗 試偷看那些新刻在獎座上的名字。

監督當晚頒獎儀式的是航海中心 的 Rob Allen，他親自歡迎會員回 來，並表示看到遊艇會回復熱鬧、 人聲鼎沸，感到十分高興。

主席 Don Johnston 以歡迎辭開始 晚會，並呼應了 Allen 的話，表示： 「我很高興歡迎各位回來。」主席 同時提醒一眾會員有關即將召開的 會員大會，以批准遊艇會新章程， 並祝全體航海員好運。

聽到了5分鐘的預告，在大家爭相 到吧台確保手中有酒之後，終於來 到了四個大獎類別的第一個—— 社區。這類別認可了 Scallywag慈 善 基金會和兒童癌病基金(CCF)的 航海員們的成就。白沙灣遊艇會的 航海員多年來一直支持CCF，多得 他們的驚人貢獻，使很多癌症患者 能接受急需的昂貴治療。

The next category was the Hebe Dragons awards which celebrated the lifeblood and future generations of sailors. Unfortunately, lead coach Alfy was unable to attend to present the Dragons with their awards. Instead, he had prepared a pre-recorded video that—despite some volume issues, commended the young sailors’ achievements over the past year.

Next up, were the Sailability awards. With a total of eight awards, this was the evening’s largest category which fully showcased the diverse range and ability of Hebe’s sailors and volunteers. Kay Rawbone, CEO, Sailability in an emotional address to the room commented, “Our sailors showed incredible spirit and strength this year and without the continued support from Hebe and our volunteers, none of this would be possible.”

The final category of the evening was Yacht Racing and Regattas which celebrated the success of IRC and HKPN boats for their impressive performances at racing events and regattas over the past year. The boats were awarded the new battle flags which can be proudly hoisted on their stays at all future racing events. But it was not only the winners of this year’s awards that were on the receiving end of the new flags. Both IRC and HKPN winners stretching back to 2018 were awarded the newly commissioned flags.

Rounding off the evening was the final award of the night—the Charisma Cup. This cup is awarded to the boat that performs best in the Kau Sai Chau pursuit and anticipation reached a fever pitch, with the excitement causing some members to drop their prizes and others to even put down their wine.

With the evening drawing to a close, it was a jovial celebration of Hebe sailors’ achievements and a story of shared success of the entire Club working together throughout the most extraordinary circumstances.

With a busy racing season ahead now that restrictions are lifted, the competition for next year’s awards is well and truly underway…

第二個類別是Hebe Dragons awards，專為 慶祝航海員的命脈與未 來世代。 不幸的是，教 練 Alfy 無法參與頒獎予 一眾獲獎人士。他準備 了一段預錄影片，雖然有 些音量問題，他讚揚了 這些年輕航海員在過去 一年的成就。

接下來則是 航能香港大 獎。這個類別總共有八個 獎項，是當晚最大的獎項 類別，充分展現了白沙灣 航海員與義工們的多材 多藝。Sailability 的 創辦 人 Kay Rawbone 感慨地 表示：「今年我們的航海 員均表現出了驚人的勇 氣和力量，沒有白沙灣航 海員與義工們持續支持， 這一切都是不可能的。」

當晚的最後一個類別爲 賽艇比賽及帆船賽，慶祝 IRC 與 HKPN 的船隻在 過往一年間於各項賽事 及帆船賽中取得驕人的 成績。這些船隻獲頒予 新的戰旗，更可以於未來 的所有比賽中的逗留期 間自豪地懸掛。但不僅今 年的得獎者獲得新的旗 幟。所有自2018年起獲獎 的 IRC 及 HKPN 得獎者均 獲頒贈新的旗幟。

魅力盃作為最後的獎項 為當晚作結。此獎盃頒 予在滘西洲追逐賽中表 現最佳的船隻，現場氣 氛與期待達至頂峰，甚 至讓一些航海員放下手 中的獎座和酒杯。

隨著晚會結束，大家歡樂 地慶祝了白沙灣遊艇會 航海員的成就，寫下在這 個非常特殊的情況下一 起合作取得成功的故事。

在比賽季節即將來臨、 社交限制措施取消，明 年獎項的爭奪戰將順利 進行……
