Towards the end of April, the Club held a reopening weekend to remind its members what it was like to be out in the fresh air and how to enjoy life after four months of lockdown. It was a gentle affair, but on 21 May, it was a return to normal with the start of the Scallywag Foundation Open Dinghy Regatta 2022. Well, almost normal as masks still had to be worn ashore.

At the briefing, Sailing Centre Manager, Rob Allen, outlined the day’s proceedings and the positions of the four courses in Port Shelter. Course one would be tucked in under the University, course two on the opposite side of Kau Sai Chau, course three further southeast off Silverstrand, and a choice for course four depending on conditions—course 4a off Hap Mun Wan (Whiskey Beach) and 4b in open water beyond Shelter Island. Barry Truhol was the principal Race Officer (RO) for the weekend.

Under the inspirational direction of Allen, more than 70 volunteers and staff swung into action, preparing buoys, arranging fuel, assisting youngsters, packing food, launching dinghies and generally making it all happen. A big job, but one that worked well this year with the calming influence of the veterans making sure all courses were ready by midday. The 29ers and 470s chose Course 4a over venturing out beyond Shelter Island.

在簡報會上，帆船運動中心經 理 Rob Allen 概述了當日的流程 及牛尾海4個賽道的位置。一號 賽區位於大學下方；二號賽 區 位於滘西洲對岸；三號賽區位 於銀線灣東南方向；而四號賽 區則視乎情況而定——4a 在廈 門灣(威士忌灣泳灘)，4b在牛 尾洲對出的水域。Barry Truhol 是週末競賽官主席 (RO) 。

在 Allen 的鼓勵下，70多名義工 和職員開始行動，準備浮標、 安排燃料、幫助年輕人、包裝 食物、準備小艇並讓所有程序 順利進行。如此龐大的工作由 今年一眾老手處變不驚地順利 完成，在中午前所有賽道已準 備完畢。29er 型與 470型選擇 了4a賽道，航行到牛尾洲。

There were 150 entries and all but one made it to their respective starts. This meant some 185 sailors on the water, many from the registered charity, Sailability Hong Kong, which is based at the Club. The numbers were somewhat down from 2021 (172 entries) but were still respectable given the territory-wide attrition sailing has experienced over the past year.

In five to seven knots of south-easterly breeze, the Optimist Green fleet, under the experienced eye of Gregoire Bourrut Lacouture, began the first of four races. With support boats aplenty, the young newcomers battled it out with Tara Maliah and Margaux Nguyen-Minh putting on impressive displays, tied on nine points, with Tara claiming the day’s honours with Cleo Badenach third.

Over at Kau Sai Chau, on course two, the Laser 4.7, Laser Open, 2.4mR, Optimist Open and Optimist Intermediate fleets, kept the RO and his team fully occupied. Eight support and safety RIBs and sampans tended to a staggering 89 boats, making sure they all rounded marks, sailed by the rules and stayed within their race area. After three races, Peter Jessop led the Laser 4.7 division, with Seb van Ommeren in 2nd and Daniel Chan 3rd. Competition in the 12-strong Laser Open boats saw Charlie Robinson win the day, with Michael Anderson in 2nd and Alexander Ching in 3rd.

There were seven entries in the 2.4mR division but Mark Houghton missed the first of their three races (mast halyard problems), and Jacqueline Siu missed all three. Foo Yuen Wai of Sailability won two and finished 3rd in the last race to claim the daily honours, followed by Chi Yeung Puk and Candy Tse.

在五到七節東南風中，Optimist Green Fleet 在經驗豐富的 Gregoire Bourrut Lacouture 的監督下，開始了四場賽事中的 首場賽事。在很多支援船隻待命下，年輕的新參賽者與Tara Maliah 和 Margaux Nguyen-MInh 展開了激烈的角逐，並列 9分。Tara 獲得了當天的榮譽，而 Cleo Badenach 位列第3。

在滘西洲的2號賽道，Laser 4.7、Laser Open、 2.4mR、Optimist Open 及 Optimist Intermediate fleet 多項賽事讓 RO 與團隊 忙不過來。8艘支援安全橡皮艇和舢舨，一共89艘船隻確 保它們全部劃好界線及按照規則航行，並且停留在賽區之 內。3場賽事之後，Peter Jessop 勝出 Laser 4.7 分組賽、Seb van Ommeren 獲第2及 Daniel Chan 位列第3。Laser Open 賽 事上12組勁旅見證 Charlie Robinson 勝出，Michael Anderson 獲第2名及 Alexander Ching 獲第3名。

2.4mR 分組賽共有7名參賽者，Mark Houghton 錯過了3場 中的首場賽事（揚帆繩問題），而 Jacqueline Siu 則缺席全 部賽事。航能的 Foo Yuen Wai 在最後一場賽事中獲得第3， 其後依次為 Chi Yeung Puk 和 Candy Tse。

The Optimist Open (Yellow) fleet completed three races and Jai Mutreja from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club claimed a hard-fought victory. In 2nd was Jonathan Zepperzauer from Hebe Haven Yacht Club and 3rd Zihan Liu. The Optimist Intermediate (Blue) fleet saw David Wang emerge victorious over his 21 competitors, with Cheuk Hymn Decimus Chan in 2nd, followed by Toby Ouyang Shuhang.

On course three, Julie Mackenzie had a varied fleet of Quests, Hansas and Picos to officiate. There were nine RS Quest entries who were eager to get going. After three races, Jane Meijnen and Mia Zordan from Hebe Haven Yacht Club showed the Lantau Boat Club’s Andy Lau and Moses Chan who was best on the day with Hebe’s James Robinson & Chris Heywood 3rd.

The Hansa 303 sailors always put on good performances and races one through three saw the fleet of 14 produce good results. Leo Purdie & Joel Suarez in Sunfish claimed the honours. Wai On Fung took 2nd and Menna Chatjavel & Rheanne Buitre took 3rd. Eleven of the 14 boats in this division were from Sailability – the other three were from TTT School, Treats and Morning Hope. In the same start were three Hansa Liberties with Song Bird winning the division, Swire Flyer II in 2nd and Victoria II in 3rd.

The Laser Picos had nine starters completing three races. Donovan Chow of the Children’s Cancer Foundation scored a 3, 1, 1 to win the day, followed by Leo Lee and George Lau.

On course four, with Bonnie Cheng the Race Officer, the six 29ers with their colourful kites had a good day inside Port Shelter. The highest scoring pair was accomplished by sailor Emily Polson and her crew, Maddalena di Salvo, followed in 2nd by Juliette Clot & Tiffany Mak on Mackaylah, with Casey Law & Jack Dingemans tied with Cameron Law & Chris Lam 3rd on ten points.

Also racing, and welcomed back, on course four were four 470s. Performance sailor and coach, Andy Service and his crew, Sonia PernaDarghouth cleaned up with three firsts. Janice Yeung & Rita Yau filled the 2nd spot and Michelle Kwan & Wong Chap Pang, 3rd.

Winds were expected to be force three to four through Sunday, strengthening to force five in the afternoon. With some cooling showers, it should provide a fitting end to the Scallywag Foundation Open Dinghy Regatta 2022.

Optimist Open (Yellow) fleet 完成了3 場賽事，香港遊艇會的 Jan Mutreja 奮 力奪得勝利。第2名為白沙灣遊艇會的 Jonathan Zepperzauer，第3為 Zihan Liu。Optimist Intermediate (Blue) fleet 賽事中，David Wang 擊敗 21名對手奪 得勝利，第2為 Cheuk Hymn Decimus Chan，緊随其後的是 Toby Ouyang Shuhang。

由競賽官 Bonnie Cheng 負責的4號賽道 中，6艘29er 帶着五顏六色的風箏在牛尾 海度過了愉快的一天。得分最高的一對 是 Emily Polson 和她的隊員 Maddalena di Salvo，第2是Mackaylah 的 Juliette Clot 和 Tiffany Makon Mackaylah， Casey Law 和 Jack Dingemans，及 Cameron Law 和 Chris Lam，兩隊獲10分 並列第3。

4號賽道亦有4艘470出戰歸來。表演航 海員和教練 Andy Service 和他的隊員 Sonia Perna-Darghouth 獲得了三個第 1名。Janice Yeung 和 Rita Yau 獲得第2 名，Michelle Kwan 和 Wong Chap Pang 位居第3。

週日的風力預計將達到3至4級，下午 將達到5級。幾陣涼快的驟雨過後，為 Scallywag Foundation 2022 公開小帆 大賽帶來完美的句號。
