Hebburn secured a dramatic penalty shootout victory away to Warrington Rylands to open the competition. The 90 minutes finished in a stalemate, with the visitors' best chance coming through Tom Devitt from a set-piece but it was well blocked off the line. Rylands had the opportunity to steal it at the death as Joe Bunney headed a cross over the bar at close-range. Hebburn's Kieren Aplin blazed his penalty over in the shootout, but The Hornets recovered and Mark Foden denied Joe Coveney low to his left to win the tie. The reward was a home draw against Warrington Town from the step above, with both sides heavily affected by injuries. Hebburn gave a good account and had several chances to break the deadlock, before Jack Mackreth did so for Warrington 58 minutes. Stefan Mols then came off the bench and made it 2-0 for the away side, before Hebburn were forced to play the final 10 minutes with Olly Martin as a stand-in goalkeeper following an injury to Foden.
