Bees feature at the
Ginger Flower and Food Festival

T JANUARY’S GINGER Flower and Food Festival there will be more than just ginger, flowers and food, with bees and their precious life story taking to the stage. The Ginger Factory’s head bee keeper, Gayle Currie, will be sharing her lifetime knowledge of honey and native bees and how important they are in society. Gayle is as passionate as you can be about her ‘girls’, the bees, and can talk all day about them, especially how we need to care for them. “Without bees we wouldn’t have our beautiful heliconias and ornamental gingers, let alone the edible ones, or coffee, pineapples, or chocolate!” Gayle said. Another very interesting presenter at the Ginger Flower & Food Festival will be sustainable farmer Gary Hands from Kookaburra Organics, who will be demonstrating how to successfully grow root crops including turmeric, galangal and yams. On the foodie front, due to popular demand, Chris White from Hungry Feel Eating House will be returning and using his talents to make a chicken boudin blanc sausage infused with liquid ginger. Don’t miss Jodie Williams from Black Ant Gourmet, Kin Kin share her incredible story of owning a farm, general store and catering business, while making a delicious creation from her hand-raised products. This is just a taste of who will be presenting at the iconic festival at Yandina, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Other presenters include Gympie’s food ambassador Matt Golinski, Kelly Lord and Tom Swapp from the famous Spirit House, free ranging chef Peter Wolfe, gardening gurus Cath Manual, Paul Plant and Maureen Simons, as well as ornamental ginger expert Kim Taylor.
