Wishing yo u a colourful s! Christma

HiS yEAR’S CHRiSTMAS Tree Festival theme is the Colours of Christmas, and as you read through December's offerings, you'll see beautiful bright imagery. Our pull-out gift guide is decorated with drawings from Montville State School Students - the very same artworks that adorn the town's new banners. The guide also holds easy gift ideas, explains how you can become a ‘Lucky Shopper’ and includes as many Christmas events as we could fit. Each community across the Hinterland offers something different: Mooloolah kick of
their celebrations first; in Montville the Woodies set up a Santa's Workshop; Mr Claus arrives on a fire engine at Mapleton's Light the Lights; Palmwoods takes the festive time as a chance to open their new town square, and it is no surprise there is a shared table at Crystal Waters. Fireworks will sparkle at Beerwah and Nambour, plus Nambour adds markets and a food court to their carols! Kenilworth save the celebrations until Christmas Eve, and Maleny dances at a street party with a mega raffle and generously puts on a Christmas breakfast. These Ananda Marga River School girls, pictured, will dance with their Heartspace troupe, led by teacher Kester and his wife Kirsty, who has just been engaged as the new drama and dance teacher for the Maleny independent School. See them at the Maleny Christmas Festival and Street Carnival, and stop in to the free Maleny Singers and Rotary Christmas Concert at
the RSL Hall, from 6.30pm. Back to the Christmas Tree Festival, are you going to enter a tree? We'll expect to see the traditional Christmas colours of red and green. Red for the holly berry, or perhaps the red nose on Rudolph, or the red of Santa’s outfit. Green for the evergreen trees that will decorate our homes: some artificial and taken out of their boxes each year – others a branch of a live tree. Others will say that “white” is the colour of Christmas - like HT's gorgeous cover – not here in Maleny of course, but in other places across the globe where a “white Christmas” is the norm. you only have to look around the shops to see that all colours come out at Christmas – gold, silver, pink, purple, you name it, you’ll see trees decorated in an array of these. you may even see ‘blue’ trees – a reminder that Christmas can be a ‘blue’ time for many people, a lonely time which conjures up memories of places and faces that can no longer be enjoyed. if you can help out with the Maleny Neighbourhood Christmas Breakfast - please give them a call. Volunteers are needed from 6am, but delicious offerings start from 8 to 11am, so no one need be alone on Christmas Day. But in the week before Christmas, December 16-24 make sure you come along to Maleny Uniting Church, and see all those colours of Christmas.
