It helps decrease our members’ costs while maintaining the level of communications they expect. We’re planning on some exciting new features that we will be rolling out in 2010.” Newsletter Inserts will now be called ‘Hot Spots’ and will be reduced in size to help us keep our newsletter at a readable length. Santa Saturday - Healdsburg Fire Department Steps In! We would like to start by Thanking the Healdsburg Fire Department and their crew for helping us make our “soggy” Santa Saturday on December 12 a success! Everyone had a blast with games, face painting, music, arts and crafts, cookie decorating and more! Even with all the fun that was had, the rain did manage to stop one feature of the festivities, horse-drawn carriage rides. It was simply not safe enough for horses on the paved city streets. After Santa’s arrival to the plaza, some members of the HFD heard that there weren’t going to be any carriages and offered their time to give the scores of children rides around the plaza in one of the firetrucks for the afternoon. It just goes to show you, Healdsburg Firefighters sure know how to save the day in more ways than one. We’ve never seen so many smiling faces in the rain. Thank you everyone for helping out! Mission, Values & Goals After surveying the membership, with a 25% response rate, the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors established its goals for 2010 based on what our members said is most important to them. The first is to create a strong, vibrant local economy. 2009 will not be known as one of our better business years, so it is no surprise that the economy was the number one priority. Through our partnership with the City, our Economic Development Coordinator, Herb Liberman, the Sonoma County Economic Development Board and the Sonoma County Workforce Investment Board, we are dedicated to helping local companies grow their businesses by taking the lead in programs and efforts that help grow our members businesses, the business community in general and make Healdsburg a great place to do business. The next Goal is to provide networking and marketing opportunities that provide quality referrals to our member businesses. Our programs such as Business After Hours, News at Noon, the March Trade Show, the Shop Local campaign, Chamber Dollars and Sponsorship opportunities are developed to increase awareness and exposure of click here to

Government Review Council

Community Impact Report CIR Update

After reviewing the recommendation of the Government Review Council, the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted unanimously at their scheduled meeting on December 10, 2009 to oppose the proposed Community Impact Report as it is currently presented to the Healdsburg City Council. The Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted alternatively to recommend that the City of Healdsburg investigate and define those significant economic and other impacts on the City of Healdsburg which are imposed by development and the shifting demogra phics and business climate of the City and which are not covered by the general plan and zoning ordinance, by the current development or entitlement process, including, but not limited to environmental impact reports, by other reports, or by development fees, in lieu fees, and tax assessments, etc, and prepare a report to be updated every five years that addresses those issues which would serve as an internal document and resource to allow the City to develop an over arching plan for addressing the concerns which are noted in the report, to the extent to which it is able to do so, and to assist in evaluating all new proposals under development. (sic) The Chamber of Commerce offers its services, through its Economic Development office, to assist in that effort.

4th Annual Bucket Brigade On Tuesday, January 19, from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. at 601 Healdsburg Avenue, join the Healdsburg Fire Department and other departments around Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties as they come together in friendly competition to collect lifesaving blood for patients in need during Blood Bank of the Redwoods’ 4th Annual Bucket Brigade. Participating fire departments will recruit community members, colleagues, friends and family to donate lifesaving blood in an effort to collect the most blood and win the Bucket Brigade Trophy. The competition will help blood inventory levels during the winter months, which are greatly effected by seasonal illnesses, weather conditions and family travels. Interesting fact:

The notion of Bucket Brigade originates from the Great London Fire of 1666, where lines of townpeople created ‘brigades’ and passed buckets of water from the town’s water source to the fires that threatened their community.

Ambassador’s Corner

The Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce is privileged to have a group of dedicated and enthusiastic men and women committed to assist the Chamber with membership retention and development, goodwill and Chamber awareness in the community. Being an ambassador benefits the Chamber while giving the Ambassador and their business maximum visibility. Our goal for 2010 is to recruit enthusiastic Ambassadors and re-ignite the Healdsburg Chamber Ambassador Program. The Ambassadors play a key role serving as and recruiting volunteers for the Chamber’s many fundraising and special event activities. They serve a very public role but also help with a myriad of “behind the scenes” activities that are critical to the success of Chamber programs. We are also bringing back the Ambassador of the year award and the Ambassador Points system. This award will be based on attendance at meetings, involvement in functions and bringing in new Chamber members and Ambassadors. Jump right in by being a greeter at a mixer, volunteering at a Chamber event, and being present at ribbon cuttings all while helping promote Healdsburg! Ambassadors are experts at mixing fun with work to produce tremendous results. If you think you fit the bill, please email Karen Roach, karen@healdsburg.com and let her know that you want to be a Healdsburg Chamber Ambassador.

our business members. They help connect decision makers for future collaboration and partnerships and provide an excellent resource for building your business. The third Goal is to promote the community. Again, through our strong partnership with the City of Healdsburg, the Downtown Business District and the Healdsburg Lodging Coalition, we are the Destination Marketing organization for Healdsburg, supporting one of the most important economic sectors in our community, tourism. But we don’t just sell Healdsburg to the outside world. Through programs such as Shop Local and Chamber Dollars, we sell Healdsburg to our residents, stressing how important it is for the economic well-being of all to support their local business community. Clearly one of the most important benefits of being a member of the Chamber is having an organization larger than your own single business representing you and advocating on your behalf. With over 600 members, we are the voice of business in Healdsburg. Our Government Review Committee looks at the issues that impact our members. Our relationships throughout the City, County and State put us in the middle of discussions on education, economic, workforce and tourism development. Hence our fourth Goal is to be the voice of business in the Healdsburg community and beyond. Over the course of 2010, through our various communications, you will be introduced to programs and opportunities, all pertaining to these four goals. The Chamber is in business for your business. If you need assistance or have thoughts or comments, please feel free to give us a call.
