This program is novel, practical and positive, and we’re delighted to be part of it. - Rich Zahedinia these downtown luxury condos a move-in gift of $1,000 to spend with any Healdsburg merchant who are part of the “Trade Links” Merchant Referral Program. “Its simple,” says Houlihan. “Homeowners cash in at close of escrow, and can spend a $1,000 gift certificate with the Merchant partner store of their choice. Merchant partners must either prominently display our marketing brochure in their stores, or link their web sites to the Foss Creek Villas web site www.fosscreekvillas.com “This is where the ‘trading links’ designation was born,” he said. He

added that merchants seeking their share of remaining available funds should contact Deborah Longfellow at (707) 433-8500 immediately. The program launched last fall and since then, local merchants have reaped $15,000 in gift certificates, while seven homeowners have gone shopping. Merchant beneficiaries to date include Cena Luna, Costeaux French Bakery, Dry Creek Kitchen, Garrett ACE Hardware, Gift Horse, Healdsburg Furniture, Hudson Street Design, St. Dizier Home and Souverain.

“This program is novel, practical and positive, and we’re delighted to be part of it,” said Rich Zahedinia of Healdsburg Furniture. “We are benefiting financially, we’re meeting our new neighbors and we’re helping them get settled into their new home and community—it’s all good!”

Creating a Strong Local Economy

Trade Show 2010 is a hit! Our 23rd annual Business Trade show, was held yesterday at the Villa Chanticleer. More than 450 people came to the show between 4 and 7 p.m. to visit more than 50 local business vendors. Despite the rainy weather, four Seniors from Rio Lindo Academy; Daisy, Erin, Adrian, Geordan and their Community Services Director Steve Martin, were there to help our vendors unload their vehicles, assist with their booth setup and also help out by serving water and snacks to our vendors during the show.

2010 Bicycle Tour Saturday, July 17, 2010 We would like to thank all of our volunteers from last summer, for donating your time and efforts during our 2009 Annual Healdsburg Harvest Century Bicycle Tour. Our event was spectacular due to the positive volunteer support, and things went ever so smoothly. We heard from many of our 781 riders on the road that our 2009 event was one of the most beautiful rides and the most organized ride that they have ever participated in, which in large part is due to your efforts. We are once again looking for your assistance and support as we prepare for our 2010 Healdsburg Harvest Century Bicycle Tour. Please keep an eye out for further announcements and communication regarding the tour.

New Use Tax Registration Requirements There is a newly added section 6225 to the California Revenue and Taxation Code (RTC) that requires a qualified purchaser to register with the Board of Equalization (BOE) and report and pay use tax directly to the BOE by April 15th for the preceding calendar year for purchases subject to use tax. Under this section, a qualified purchaser is a person who has at least $100,000 in gross receipts per year from business operations, Use tax is not a new tax. It has is not required to hold a seller’s permit been a part of the California or a certificate of RTC since the 1930’s. Only the registration use tax, registration requirement is new does not hold a use under RTC section 6225. tax direct payment permit, or is not otherwise registered with the BOE for use tax. In September 2009 they sent the following link to their special notice with information regarding the new use tax registration requirements: www.boe.ca.gov/news/pdf/l232.pdf Under California law, if sales tax would apply when a particular item is purchased in California, use tax applies when a similar purchase is made from a retailer outside the state and no tax is charged. Use tax is not a new tax. It has been a part of the California RTC since the 1930’s. Only the registration requirement is new under RTC section 6225. As part of their registration efforts, BOE contacted approximately 180,000 identified qualified purchasers and informed them of the new program. In an effort to help ease taxpayer burden, they have registered those taxpayers through our automated registration system. In the next couple of weeks, taxpayers will receive their “welcome letter”, a copy of which is provided in the following link www.boe.ca.gov/news/pdf/qp_a.pdf The letter introduces the program and provides taxpayers with their new BOE account number and express login code. Through their automated system, taxpayers will use their account number and express login code to e-file their use tax returns for years 2007, 2008 and 2009. For more information about the BOE’s e-filing and other tax and fee programs, please visit their website at www.boe.ca.gov Information provided by CA Board of Equalization
