Mastering a dark lip

LINE UP

Although lining lips can seem outdated these days and many makeup artists sway away from this step, with a darker shade it’s a must-have. Doing so helps to retain the shape of your lips and ensure that the dark colour doesn’t bleed into the fine lines. Start by drawing on the cupid’s bow of your lip line, being careful to make sure each side mimics the same shape. Next, slowly draw from the outer corner and meet up in the centre. For the bottom lip, start in the centre and perfect the straight part of the lip before focusing on the outside corners. Top tip – Trying to line your lips in one sweep is a no-no. Take your time to get the best shape. Once you’re happy with the shape, use the liner to fill in your lips, which works to create a base for your colour and also helps to make the shade stay put.

BUFF UP

To pull off such a dark shade, lip condition is number one. Any dryness or chapping will stand out under this beautiful burgundy shade, so putting in the prep work is a must. Start by using a lip exfoliator to buff away any dry skin and recondition the surface of your lips. Top tip - A soft toothbrush is a great tool to help work the product into your lips. 20 HEADWAY.NET.NZ
