NUNCHAKU REQUIREMENTS & CONCEPTS FOR LIMITLESS APPLICATIONS
All the exercises should be done on the Right and Left Side
1. Nunchaku Grips
How to hold the Nunchaku in different ways
- Close to the Chain (good for some handling skills)
- Middle Grip (use lower part as hooks)
- End of Nunchaku (grip for more reach)
- Reversed Grip (also do the 3 grips mentioned above)

Learn to change to all the grips in a flowing motion with and without spins
2. Nunchaku Stances
A minimum of 5 stances are required for this Nunchaku course, left and right leg in front
- Offensive Stance: nunchaku backhand guard high, nunchaku in front hand
- Defensive Stance: with a hand out, nunchaku behind under the armpit
- Open Stance: nunchaku in front with open fingers hands out, arms stretched
- Over the Shoulder Stance: hold nunchaku behind the shoulder
- Hidden Stance: hide the nunchaku behind your leg, front arm stretched hand out Nunchaku Kamae No Kata show all the stances in your own Freestyle Flow form
3. Nunchaku Basic Handling Skills
Basic spinning with the Nunchaku
- Spin Forward (outside and inside)
- Spin Backward (outside and inside)
- Whirl Wind Spin to the right side
- Whirl Wind Spin to the left side
- Whirl Wind Spin (both sides with body wrapping)
- Figure 8 Spin Forward
- Figure 8 Spin Backward
- Double Nunchaku Figure 8 Spin (simultaneous and separate, forward and backward)
- Double Nunchaku Spins (down and up 2, 3 spins one down, other on the shoulder)
- Kamikaze Spin Double Nunchaku Forward (with slide steps forward)
- Kamikaze Spin Double Nunchaku Backward (with slide steps backward)
Show the basic handling skills fast and precise use the Nunchaku naturally

4. Nunchaku Handling Drills
Drills for handling the Nunchaku and get more feeling for the weapon
- Over the Shoulder Drill: (side to side)
- Nunchaku basic Handling Drill: (hand for hand in front of you)
- Circle Drill Throw and Catch: (nunchaku makes a full circle in the air)
- Double Nunchaku Shoots: (equal together and one by one, high and low)

Single and Double Nunchaku Body Catching, Body Wrapping
Prevents hurting yourself after a strike, the Nunchaku wraps around the body
- Torso Hip Catch (also with double nunchakus, bring one above the other from side to side)
- Leg Catch (also with double nunchakus, one by one and at the same time)
- Upper Arm Catch (also with double nunchakus, one by one and at the same time)
- Shoulder Catch (also with double nunchakus, one by one and at the same time)
- Neck Catch (also with double nunchakus, one by one and at the same time)
- Leg to Arm Catch: (single/double nunchakus, double together & one up and the other down)
- High, Low, Low High Catching: (single or double nunchakus, catch all body parts)
- Body Catching to change Spinning Directions: (spin in another direction after a catch)
- Double Nunchaku Body Wrapping: (keep them in motion 1,2,3, diagonal, side and vertical) Show them one by one and make a combination of all the above body catches, wrappings
6. Nunchaku Katas, Forms (learn all single nunchaku kata with the left and right hand) Combines a set patterns of moving, to learn to move, block and strike with the Nunchakus

- 4 Directions Form: Offensive Stance, Strike, then Figure 8 back to the armpit to Offensive Stance
2. The 16 Angles of Attack Form with single Nunchaku (with and without spins)
- NORMAL GRIP RIGHT: 16 Angles of Attack: learn strikes in 16 directions, 16 ways
- NORMAL GRIP LEFT: 16 Angles of Attack: learn strikes in 16 directions, 16 ways

4. Double Nunchaku Kata: “Kaze No Kata”, “The Wind Form” 風の形

7. Nunchaku Blocks for Defenses
Make the blocks with one and two hands on the Nunchaku, use these blocks as concepts
- High Block above the head
- Side Block to both sides right and left (inward and outward)
- Downward Block to both sides (inward and outward)
- Push Block forward (horizontal and vertical punch push)
Show all the Blocks against an unarmed & armed attacker
8. Nunchaku Catching from Hand to Hand, Normal and Reversed Grip
Intermediate skills hand to hand, also do variations with spin
- Catch horizontal to other hand behind torso (front, torso both directions)
- Catch horizontal around neck
- Catch vertical around arm under armpit (with and without a single spin)
- Catch diagonal on back, up to down
- Catch diagonal on back from hip to shoulder (down to up)
- Catch around the leg, back to front
- Catch around the leg, front to back
- Catch vertical from under the armpit to above the shoulder
- Reversed grip body catch hand to hand, to back spin, to over the elbow grab
Make a combination freestyle drill, a free form with all the above Catches
9. Advanced Nunchaku Handling Skills
Advanced spinning and handling skills
- Wrist Switch (half back and forth)
- Figure 8 Wrist Switch (side to side)
- Hip Catch Wrist Switch (left to right, right to left)
- Leg Switch (swing stick around the leg, let go and grab, half switch)
- Full Wrist Switching (One flowing motion over the Hand and over the Thumb)
- Full Wrist Switch to Throw and Catch (first keep motion, after a while throw and catch)
Show these handling skills in a flowing way and in your own freestyle form
10. Full Contact Skills Freestyle Nunchaku Target Training
Work against pads, a tree or other targets for resistance training
- Target Practicing against pads or other targets (non-human)
- Target Practice must be done with single and double nunchakus
Pad Training: react to the pad-trainer with fast responses, practice all directions.

11. Selfdefense Techniques with the Nunchaku, Nunchaku Jutsu
Self-defense Concepts, at least 4 techniques of the 10 subjects below with the Nunchaku
- 1st technique against punches
- 2nd technique against kicks
- 3rd technique against grabs and grabs with punches
- 4rd technique against a choke
- 5th technique in a ground fight situation
- 6th technique against one escrima or double escrima sticks
- 7th technique against a long weapon like a staff, spear, halberd
- 8th technique against a single nunchaku or double nunchakus
- 9th technique against a cutting weapons: swords, knives and others
- 10th technique against a gun threat close by you
The techniques have to be as realistic as possible, they have to work
12. Chokes with Nunchaku
How to do chokes with the Nunchaku show 4 different ways
- 1st Choke
- 2nd Choke
- 3rd Choke
- 4th Choke
Show all the Chokes in a flowing motion at least 4 chokes, more are allowed
13. Nunchaku Shadow Sparring, Shadow Fighting
Freestyle and use all Nunchaku moves with punches and kicks, Shadow Fighting
Shadow Boxing with the nunchaku for 2x2 minutes ongoing. Show all the previous learned skills but also punches, kicks, blocks and other martial arts skills you have. Use the Nunchaku but do not depend only on the weapon. Adapt and Grow as a Total Warrior!
14. Nunchaku Kumite, Free Sparring / Fighting
Sparring with partner with full protection gear
Sparring, Fighting with the nunchaku. In sparring also other martial arts skills are allowed like: grabbing, punching, throwing, kicking, but use the nunchaku in your moves. The nunchaku should be an addition to your martial arts skills. Be a Total Warrior and use all the skills, but never lose the focus on the nunchaku. It is a nunchaku course, so work with the nunchaku. Sparring is Full Contact 2 x 3 minutes. Sparring Light Contact also 2 x 3 minutes with the rule, that you have to make at least 3 hand to hand catch techniques before you can score a point. When the fight goes to the ground, go on until the examinator says: Stand Up!

15. Teaching this Nunchaku Curriculum
Teaching a small group in the way of the Nunchaku
Teaching is also important for this Nunchaku Instructor course. You should be an example and teach this curriculum to a group of students. On the examination day, the examinator decides what aspect of this curriculum you should prepare and teach.
