This skill cannot be misjudged, as you will encounter the unknown regularly in your classes and assignments. As a first-time college student, this was a gigantic change for me and made the primary semester considerably more troublesome than needed. At first, I regularly waited to be helped and couldn’t comprehend why I was struggling with the material. As far as I might be concerned, it involved recognizing that I was struggling with a particular course, requesting that the tutoring program match me with a tutor, and putting more time to study and thoroughly going through my work. Furthermore, prepare to be blown away . . . It worked! Nevertheless, I could never have gotten what I needed on the off chance that I had not distinguished these particular issues in the first place.

Figuring out what you need can take some time. If you are frustrated or troubled with your progress, take a break from your assignments to get a clear idea of what you really need help with. Maybe you’ve been too independent and have always tried to solve your own problems to realize that you need assistance from someone such as a peer or professor trained in the material. One of the great things about being a college student is the fact you are surrounded by experts and helpful tutors and professors, so make the most of these resources and ask for assistance. Don’t let pride or shyness get in the way of obtaining everything you can from your college experience. The level of independence given to us as college students is a lot, and while it can be difficult to steer and understand this system, taking the time to acknowledge and identify what you need and how to get it is never a waste of time.
