This is one of the biggest moments in the history of Irish boxing. In fact, this is one of the biggest moments in the history of Irish sport. Tonight, at a sold-out 3Arena here in Dublin, Katie Taylor challenges Chantelle Cameron for the undisputed Super-Lightweight Championship of the World.
Katie Taylor, former Olympic Champion, former five-time World Amateur Champion, sixtime European Champion, World Champion, Undisputed Champion, two-division World Champion will fight in Dublin for the first time as she looks to make history and become a twodivision Undisputed World Champion.
Chantelle Cameron, the reigning 140lbs undisputed champion will be looking for one of the greatest victories from a British fighter in the history of our sport as well as she looks to create her own legacy as a great among women’s and men’s boxing worldwide. This is a tremendous fight and I think we should pay homage to both fighters for accepting this challenge. It’s so refreshing to see World Champions, undisputed champions willing to fight the very best. We don’t see it enough in boxing. This is exactly what boxing needs, and this fight will be epic in front of a sold-out 3Arena – the biggest gate in the history of the 3Arena, live and exclusive on DAZN around the world. This is a huge moment for DAZN coming off the back of some incredible events.
Naas Lightweight sensation Gary Cully is a star in the making and tonight he has a huge platform to showcase his talents as he looks for another
stunning knockout win in the chief support bout. Mexico’s Jose Felix is in the opposite corner, and he won’t be making life easy for ‘The Diva’.
Dennis Hogan against JJ Metcalf for the IBO SuperWelterweight World Title is another fantastic war for this monster event in. We’ve seen Dennis in with the likes of Jaime Munguia, Jermall Charlo and Tim Tszyu and he comes to fight every time. He returns home to fight in Ireland for the first time in his career in what will be a truly special night. JJ deserves this huge opportunity after bouncing back from his two defeats in brilliant fashion. He’s looked a real force since he teamed up with Joe McNally and they want all the big fights out there. Fighters that have continually stepped up and taken the challenges put in front of them deserve these big opportunities and I can’t wait to see these two go at it.
It’s the long awaited return of Belfast’s ‘Black Thunder’ Caoimhin Agyarko as he meets Grant Dennis over ten rounds at Middleweight following an injury that has kept him out of the ring for a few months.
Dublin’s Thomas Carty against Glasgow’s Jay McFarlane for the vacant BUI Heavyweight Title is a really fun fight that kicks off the DAZN broadcast just after 7.00pm and the tension between these two has been building up all week, with the pair nearly clashing at yesterday’s public weigh-in.
Andy Lee’s Welterweight charge Paddy Donovan steps up against former English Super-Lightweight Champion Sam O’maison and Eltham Flyweight Maisey Rose Courtney kicks off the night’s action in a 6 round clash with Waterford’s Kate Radomka. ■

Katie Taylor has the chance to become a two-weight undisputed World Champion when she takes on undisputed SuperLightweight World Champion Chantelle Cameron in a historic homecoming fight at the 3Arena in here in Dublin, Ireland this evening.
Irish legend Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) fights in Ireland for the first time in her professional career as she bids to create even more history and further cement herself as the greatest female fighter on the planet when she meets England’s Cameron.
“This is absolutely incredible,” said Taylor. “I think that one of the things that I wanted to achieve when I first turned pro six years ago was to fight here at home. This is a nation who love their sport, who love their boxing, and for a very very small nation we’re very good at it as well.
“It’s amazing to be bringing big time boxing back to this nation again where it belongs. This isn’t any normal fight, this is undisputed champions versus undisputed champion. This is a very special fight, one of the biggest fights in boxing I believe.
“I think we’re definitely turning a new leaf for Irish boxing. Hopefully this is the first night of many here at home in Ireland. Even just looking at the public workout the other day, just looking at so many young fighters there, young girls that were watching the public workout.
“They’re looking up to myself and Chantelle and all of these other fighters, it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s great to be in a position where you’re influencing the next generation of fighters. They’re going to grow up with big dreams and big ambitions as well which is absolutely amazing.
Taylor, already considered by many to be the very best female fighter to ever grace a boxing ring, insists that her main goal is to leave a legacy that will help clear a path for future generations of female fighters.
“That’s what legacy is all about isn’t it, making the way for the next generation of fighters. Those generation of fighters are going to do even more than we’ve ever done. That’s what real legacy is all about. When I was growing up as a 9 or 10-year-old having these big dreams, I didn’t have the Olympics at the time, we had so many obstacles and so many boundaries in the way.
“Here we are making the path so much easier for the next generation of fighters. It’s amazing. I met up with Deirdre Gogarty on Thursday who was my hero growing up. She was the only female fighter I knew of at the time. Just the influence that she had on my career is amazing, I could be that for some young girl coming up in the sport as well.
Taylor edged out Amanda Serrano in an epic fight for the ages on an iconic night at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York last April. The global superstar
retained her Undisputed Lightweight World Title belts after a Fight of the Year contender with multi-division World Champion Serrano. It was the first women’s boxing bout to headline the famous MSG in its 140-year history, attracting an unprecedented audience of 1.5 million tuning in globally on DAZN. The rivals were set to rematch in Dublin on May 20 until Serrano withdrew due to injury. Determined to keep hold of the May 20, Taylor took to social media to call out Northampton’s undefeated Cameron for an epic undisputed versus undisputed showdown.
“I saw the fight slipping away for me, the May 20th date was slipping away. I don’t use social media much but when I do use it, I guess I can make a big impact. I knew that Chantelle wanted this fight as well. It was a very easy fight to make. The minute the Tweet went out a few days later the fight was actually made.
“Two undisputed champions facing off against each other is absolutely huge for the sport and it has all of the makings of another epic fight. I never pick the easiest challenges – I want the biggest tests and the biggest challenges. I have a chance to become a two-weight undisputed champion on Saturday evening in front of my home crowd. This is so so special.” ■
Chantelle Cameron didn’t think she would ever get the chance to test herself against Katie Taylor in the professional ranks, but the undisputed Super-Lightweight ruler will put all of her marbles on the line against the Irish great in tonight’s historic main event here in Dublin.
Northampton’s Cameron (17-0, 8 KOs) achieved a lifetime dream by outpointing the USA’s Jessica McCaskill to be crowned undisputed at 140lbs at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates last November.
Cameron captured the famous green and gold WBC 140lbs World Title by widely outpointing Brazil’s Adriana dos Santos Arauja behind closed doors at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes back in October 2020.
‘Il Capo’ looked sensational as she stopped Puerto Rico’s Melissa Hernandez in five rounds during the first defence of her crown the following year in her US debut at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
The 31-year-old added the IBF and inaugural Ring Magazine World Titles to her collection by decisioning Indiana’s Mary McGee in an all-action main event at The O2 in London in October 2021 before defending her titles with another unanimous decision points win over Victoria Noelia Bustos in May last year.
“It’s unbelievable to be here,” said Cameron.
“It feels like it was yesterday I was in Abu Dhabi thinking, ‘wow I’m undisputed World Champion, it’s not going to get bigger than this’ – I remember saying to Jamie the
next day, ‘what’s next, what can I achieve now?’ I became undisputed – that was my dream.
“Fighting Katie Taylor now is my bigger goal –that’s what I always wanted. I never thought it would happen. For me this fight is bigger than becoming undisputed World Champion. Anyone in this division or round about this division has always wanted to fight Katie Taylor because she’s the pound- for-pound best and if you’re in boxing you want to challenge the best as well, especially if you’re a champion.
“You’ve got to set yourself them sort of goals and try achieve your own greatness. I’ve always wanted this fight and I didn’t think it would happen. I’m here now. I’ve got so much respect for Katie Taylor as well.
“When I saw that Amanda Serrano pulled out I thought Katie deserved a homecoming. What she’s done for women’s boxing, I wouldn’t be sat where I am if it wasn’t for Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields.
“It was a no brainer for me. It will definitely be hostile but it’s going to be tunnel vision and I’ll be focused on the job at hand. I’ll let everything else go above my head, I’ve got one job to do and that is to win.”
Cameron’s trainer Jamie Moore heaped praised on Cameron and Taylor during Thursday’s final press conference at Dublin castle, and the highlyrated coach from Manchester is convinced that his charge will emerge victorious tonight.
“It’s a phenomenal fight, two fighters probably at the peak of their game, willing and ready to
fight each other basically at the drop of a hat. There wasn’t that much negotiations that took place in those few days from the point where Katie put that message out on Instagram. Chantelle accepted it straight away and that is how it should be. I think a lot of other fighters across the world can could take notes from the way these two have dealt with the situation.
“I have no doubt in my mind that Chantelle comes out victorious on Saturday. This has the potential to be one of the greatest female fights ever, in fact one of the best fights ever. This truly is the best I’ve ever seen Chantelle and if she’s ever going to beat Katie Taylor and give herself the best opportunity, she’s put herself in that situation.
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that if I tried to send Chantelle out to outbox Katie Taylor it would be crazy tactics. Who in their right mind would try and go and outbox someone of Katie’s calibre? You have to be a bit smarter than that and you have to use your best attributes. Chantelle has got some phenomenal attributes.” ■
Gary Cully believes tonight is the start of the return of bigtime boxing to Dublin – and he says he’ll be headlining here soon as he continues his unstoppable rise in the Lightweight division against Jose Felix. Cully (16-0, 10 KOs) has been a man on a mission in his recent outings, with a secondround stoppage in February of Wilfredo Flores in Nottingham landing him the WBA Intercontinental Title and a fifth straight win on the spin. The rangy Kildare man has landed in the top ten in the WBA and if he continues his winning ways, he’ll quickly climb up to bring his fellow contenders into range. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Cully will watch undisputed champion Devin Haney defend his titles against Ukrainian modern great Vasiliy Lomachenko with great interest, the 27-year-old expects Haney to move up and vacate the belts – and Cully will be ready to take his chance.
“I want to build a fanbase in Dublin this year,” said Cully. “I want to come back and headline my own show after this fight. I want to headline the 3Arena, I want to come back in September or October against a big name, headline my own show and start forging my own path I suppose. “Going on from that then, obviously we don’t know what’s going to happen with the belts. Haney is fighting Lomachenko the same night as my fight, so we’ll see what happens there. If Devin beats Loma and moves up, then there’ll be a couple of belts scattered away.
“I saw Felix live against Tyrone McKenna two years ago, and I’ve seen a couple of videos. He comes to fight, he’s a Mexican and they love to fight. He brings excitement so it’s the sort of step-up I need.
“Winning is my number one priority. Everything else after winning is a bonus. Obviously, the big performances and the knockouts are great but if I’ve to go ten rounds in there and win a fight on
points, I don’t mind having to do that either given my conditioning and what I’ve been doing in the gym. Whatever it is – once I win, I don’t care.” Victory is important for Cully tonight, but he knows that the night belongs to Katie Taylor. The headline star has had kind words for Cully ahead of the biggest night of boxing in Ireland, claiming he’s a future World Champion, and that’s all the motivation Cully needs to put in a performance worthy of the stage.
“This whole week for me has been a dream come true but to see what she’s done for the sport,” said Cully. “To see her in the public workout this week bringing the young kid into the ring, she’s a special person and fighter.
“To see her talking about me in that way is a huge motivation and inspiration for me.” ■
Jose Felix has a clear conscience ahead of ripping up Gary Cully’s plans for world domination – by apologising to promoter Eddie Hearn ahead of their Lightweight clash tonight.
Lopez (39-6-1, 30 KOs) apologised to the Matchroom Sport Chairman ahead at Thursday’s press conference because he said he’s going to beat Cully and halt his rise in the rankings at 135lbs. Cully sits at number nine with the WBA and could rise up further with victory in the biggest night of boxing in Dublin for many years.
Cully wants to follow tonight’s battle with a headline show of his own in Dublin later in the year, but that’s not a script that Lopez is willing to follow. The Mexican has a wealth of experience and has been in with some familiar names, including Cully’s gym mate Tyrone McKenna in Belfast in August 2021, so a raucous crowd will not deter him from his plans to spoil the party.
“I am going to take it all away from Gary Cully tonight,” said Felix. “He’s a great fighter and he’s well ranked, he’s heavy handed and we are aware of that.
“But I am a Mexican warrior, I am here to win and I’m sure that they have been told how to fight me because I fought his gym mate, but you will see a different Jose Felix on Saturday night. I am well prepared physically and mentally, and this fight ends in a knockout.” ■

Dennis Hogan defends his IBO SuperWelterweight World Title against James Metcalf on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s huge homecoming undisputed clash with Chantelle Cameron this evening. The Irishman, who is based in Newstead, Australia, returns home to fight in Ireland for the first time in his professional career and heads into his maiden defence of the IBO 154lbs Title on a three-fight winning streak, most recently outpointing Sam Eggington over 12 rounds at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre last October.
‘Hurricane’ (31-4-1, 7 KOs), who was born in Kildare, Ireland, controversially lost out on points to Mexico’s Jaime Munguia in a challenge for the WBO Super-Welterweight World Title in April 2019. He jumped up to Middleweight to take on WBC World Champion Jermall Charlo in his next fight but was stopped in seven rounds by the undefeated Texas fighter.
“Firstly, thank you to Eddie Hearn and everyone at Matchroom for having me on this iconic card on May 20,” said Hogan at Thursday’s final press conference. “I’m excited to be returning to Ireland to defend my World Title against JJ Metcalf. This is a truly special moment for me, not only to be on the card with Katie Taylor who is an Irish superstar, but it will be the first time I will be fighting as a professional in Ireland.” ■
“THIS
James Metcalf fights in Ireland for the first time as professional this evening as he attempts to dethrone IBO SuperWelterweight World Champion Dennis Hogan. Liverpool’s Metcalf (24-2, 15 KOs) halted Brooklyn’s Carl Pennington in six rounds at the First Direct Arena in Leeds last time out in December in what was the first defence of his WBA Continental Super-Welterweight Title. That win followed on from his impressive careerbest showing against Kerman Lejarraga at the Bilbao Arena in Spain last summer. The former Commonwealth and WBC International Super-Welterweight Champion, son of Liverpool fight legend Shea ‘Shamrock Express’ Neary, rejuvenated his career by outpointing hometown hero Lejarraga, a twoweight European Champion, in an excellent display of patience and boxing IQ.
Metcalf’s only defeats in the professional ranks have come at the hands of Bermondsey’s Ted Cheeseman in a jaw dropping battle for the vacant British Title in Gibraltar in March 2021 and Northampton’s Kieron Conway at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in October 2021.
“I’ve always wanted to box in Ireland and never quite got the chance, so to be boxing on one of the biggest boxing events in Irish history for a World Title is a dream come true,” said Metcalf.
“Dennis Hogan is a really good fighter and a genuine world top 10 in my opinion – you only have to look at some of his previous opponents to see that. I believe he was robbed for the WBO World Title against Munguia.
“I’m expecting the fight to be a tough fight, cagey at times, but it will catch fire and hopefully the fans get to see a great fight. A win for my career here will mean everything to me. Everything I’ve done since my first amateur fight at the age of 11 would have all been worth it, it also lines me up for some massive fights.” ■
Caoimhin Agyarko feels like he has a point to prove –– and he believes we could see the best version of him to date.
The undefeated Belfast puncher has been out of the ring for a considerable amount of time through injury but is eager to make up for lost time against a former sparring partner in the shape of Grant Dennis.
“There’s no pressure on me [from others]. There’s only the pressure that I put on myself. It’s amazing to be back on home soil, fighting in Dublin where I won many national titles [as an amateur],” said Agyarko, who will have training team Joseph McNally and Declan O’Rourke in his corner.
“This is about getting back to it because I’ve been in the gym, training with one hand, since the day after my surgery. For my last two fights, I’ve fought with a snapped ligament and a fracture. “I’m now back to normal again and ready to take full advantage by showing everyone a new beast before we move onto the big stage.”
Agyarko stated during fight week that the duels between him and his foe were onesided –– something his counterpart refutes.
“I respect Grant Dennis, I’ve shared plenty of rounds with him and I’ve prepared to the best of my ability, but everyone will see on the night exactly what would happen in the spars between us.
“Just get ready, imagine me with two hands.” ■
Grant Dennis and Caoimhin Agyarko are no strangers. The pair have seen each other a number of times in the ring –– but never in an 8000-seat cauldron.
Tonight, at the 3Arena in Dublin, as part of Katie Taylor’s homecoming against Chantelle Cameron, the duo will meet again –– this time with much more on the line.
“We know each other really well. I know Caoimhin well, he knows me well and we’ve shared plenty of rounds, but one thing is for sure and that is that I’m here to spoil the party,” said Dennis, who is from England and has been a long-time sparring partner of the Belfast native.
“This is my shot, that’s how I see it and that’s how I’ve got to look at this opponent and, more importantly, the opportunity. He’s talented, he knows I’m talented, but I like my chances in this fight no matter what.”
Agyarko is undefeated but has been out of the ring for a sustained period of time after suffering a hand injury.
But Dennis isn’t worried about what will be coming back at him because he knows there is much more at stake for him than just a win or a defeat.
“Our styles will gel and I’ll take this opportunity with both hands and I think it’ll be fireworks,” he added. “I’ve got five kids and I’ve got a lot of bills, so this is a massive thing for me to be on the main table for such a big card.” ■
Thomas Carty just wants to keep getting better.
The undefeated Irishman is managed by former WBC World Title challenger Dillian Whyte and ultimately wants to emulate his mentor. Carty knows, however, that it’s one step at a time –– starting with tonight’s vacant Celtic Heavyweight Title clash against Scotland’s Jay McFarlane over eight rounds.
“I’m five fights in now and it’s about time I had a decent step up,” he said. “I’m blessed to be on this card, it’s something that I’ve wanted since it was first talked about and we’re finally here now.”
Carty (5-0) has all but one of his fights having ended early and was last in the ring in England just last month.
And he believes the activity being thrust upon him will stand him in good stead going forward. “I turned pro two years ago this week and I haven’t been out of the gym since,” he added. “It’s all been building towards this and I think you’ll see the best version of me to date and an even better version going forward.” ■
“IT’S ABOUT TIME I HAD A DECENT STEP UP”
Jay Carrigan-McFarlane could well be forgiven for being content with his achievements to date. The bubbly Scottish Heavyweight has boxed at a decent level so far but will be first to admit that he never really took it seriously in the past. Now, though, the 25-year-old is switched on and determined to make something of the next stage of his journey.
“I’m back on the road again, on the road to paradise,” he said. “I love coming to Dublin, the place and I love the people and the opportunity means a lot. I can’t wait to be on this card, it’s massive.”
McFarlane has a record of 14-7 with five quick and will be hoping to spring an upset when he meets undefeated Thomas Carty for the vacant Celtic title over eight rounds.
“I’ve been on big stages before but there’s something special about this night. The sky is the limit this time around and I finally believe that I deserve to be here, that I deserve to be taken seriously. |I’m not here to be the rockstar that I used to be, out drinking before fights. That’s stopped now.” Carty is managed by Dillian Whyte, the former
WBC number one-ranked Heavyweight, and McFarlane respects what will be in front of him on the night while knowing the rewards a win could bring.
“My whole mindset has changed and it’s taken me seven years as a professional athlete to make sure that I’m right, but domestically there are some big fights that can be made and I’ve just got to get past Thomas.” ■
“MY WHOLE MINDSET HAS CHANGED”
Paddy Donovan has been handed the chance to potentially impress his way onto the books at Matchroom.
The 24-year-old Limerick starlet has parted ways with Top Rank and thus is promotionally free as he heads into what will be his toughest test to date.
Donovan, who is managed by Andy Lee, meets Sam O’Maison, a former British SuperLightweight Title challenger, on the same bill as his fellow Irish fighter Katie Taylor. And after officially being added to the card during fight week, he is keen to get the show back on the road.
“I believe I’m one of the biggest prospects in world boxing,” Donovan said during fight week. “And when this show came to town, straight away I got on to Andy Lee and told him that for my talent, this is where I need to be.”
‘The Real Deal’ had made a very positive start to his career under the guidance of Bob Arum and co. before negotiating an exit from the USbased outfit.
A hand injury slowed that progress down but he is back fully fit now and determined to kick on to the next level.
“This is where I get to showcase my skill in front of the Irish fans. We were meant to be fighting somebody else and fair play to Sam O’Maison for stepping in at late notice, but he’s going to get his a**e whipped.”
O’Maison is going back into the ring at the upper echelons, given that his last fight was a stoppage defeat at the hands of white-hot talent Dalton Smith.
“On paper, this is my toughest fight and Sam brings plenty of experience,” Donovan said ahead of his Dublin docklands appearance. “He’s been in with some good fighters and been on plenty of Matchroom undercards, but I can’t wait to get in there and show what I’m capable of by doing a number on him.” ■
Sam O’maison is not looking to take a backwards step in terms of level.
The former British Super-Lightweight Title challenger returns in Dublin after suffering what was arguably his most damaging defeat to date.
O’maison was blasted out by Dalton Smith last August as the pair vied for the vacant Lonsdale belt, but he goes in against Paddy Donovan at late notice this time around.
“This is straight back in. I was in camp anyway for a fight in Scotland in two weeks. That one fell out of bed and I was ready, so I took this fight,” O’maison revealed during fight week.
The Englishman has seven knockouts from 17 wins and is a former English Super-Lightweight king who has also challenged for an IBF International Title.
“I’m always up for a fight, but in my fight with Dalton, the weight was a big issue.”
Smith dispatched of the southpaw inside six rounds when they met, going down three times before being halted by referee Marcus McDonnell with five seconds remaining in the sixth round.
But ‘The Sensation’ is keen to underline the fact that his performance against his fellow Yorkshireman last year was a mere blip by pulling off something of a shock against the former star amateur Donovan.
“This one has been a lot better and I’m just looking forward to getting in there and putting on a great performance and, more importantly, getting the victory.” ■
“I’M ALWAYS UP FOR A FIGHT”
Maisey Rose Courtney was outstanding in the vest and headguard.
The 22-year-old Flyweight is a six-time National Amateur Champion and steps up to six rounds in just her third fight.
Courtney, trained by Kevin Mitchell at the Matchroom gym in Brentwood, Essex, with Tony Sims also guiding her career, fights a local on the biggest card that Ireland has arguably ever seen.
“I’m over the moon to be on such a big card and especially boxing an Irish girl,” said Courtney, who meets Polish-born Waterford resident Kate Radomska.
“This is massive, it’s an Irish card, headlined by Katie Taylor and I’m looking forward to it. But I don’t do any ducking and diving. I’m not here to pick and choose who I want to fight.
“Kate called me out, she wanted to fight me and I’m going to fight her, it’s as simple as that.”
Courtney went the distance in each of her first two fights, but she is eager to progress quickly.
“Four rounds is too short. I train for six rounds and I’m stepping up to that level in this fight,” she added. “I believe you’ll see the best of me when I step up in level and it starts with a good win against Kate. ■
“THIS IS MASSIVE”
Kate Radomska knows she has the chance of a lifetime at her feet as she enters the ring for just her fifth professional outing. The 33-year-old Flyweight began her career in the paid code just 18 months ago and, being based in Ireland, she already has an opportunity to take her career to new heights.
Radomska lost her last fight, back in July 2022, but will be looking to get back to winning ways on one of the biggest cards her adopted country of Ireland has ever seen.
“As soon as Katie’s homecoming show was announced, it made me dream of being on it,” the Waterford resident said.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to box on such a good show and I’m under no illusions that I’m the underdog in this fight, but I’m here to win.”
Standing in the opposite corner to Radomska will be Maisey Rose Courtney.
The Londoner comes to the pro ranks as a six-time National Amateur Champion and, as much as she is respected by Radomska, the local believes she will have too much for the youngster.
“Maisey is a class fighter and I don’t expect anything other than top competitive, tough fights,” she said. “These are the kind of fights I’ve always wanted and here I am.” ■
