Also remember that the Satpams are patrolling at night and are there to assist you from 7pm to 7am You are likely to see their flashlights shining across the rice-fields overnight Though their English is basic, they will be able to assist you should you need them, and they are currently taking English classes

Check-in time is anytime after 3 pm with help from our on-site staff (our villa manager, and in the night hours our security guard)

PARKING

CHECK-OUT

TIME: 11:00 AM

Check-out time is at 11 am on the scheduled departure date

If you arrive in your own car, please note that we do not have a car park area within the Villa complex But we do have a secure parking area just outside the villa complex (about 40 meters) which costs IDR 10,000 per day You may park scooters within the villa complex free of charge

We strongly recommend you use our driver Nyoman to bring you to the villa. There are no street signs in Bali so unless your driver knows the area you can easily get lost. He charges IDR 400,000 for an airport transfer or a pickup from Seminyak/Kuta area

You can contact Nyoman via email: mansanding@gmailcom or via phone/Whatsapp: +62 812 3926138

If you choose to use your own driver and you do get lost, ask them to call Nyoman (our Driver): +62 812 3926138

Yudi (our Villa Manager): +62 812 4691 9491 Nik (our Grounds Manager): +62 813 3830 0922

Please do not call or email your host (Anna/Ramya) en route! We may not receive your message in time, they may be anywhere in the world, and the first thing they will do is ask your driver to call either Nyoman or Yudi.

DRIVERS

During your stay we will do our best to make your transport needs easier and recommend our driver Nyoman for your visits to Ubud or day trips around the island Nyoman has worked with us for a long time and knows all about the local area and interesting places to see

You can contact him at this phone number: Nyoman +62 812 3926138

However, please note that our driver is not an exclusive driver for the villa and he might be not always available In such cases you can ask Yudi to recommend the taxi services in Ubud

Please ask drivers to refrain from leaving their motors running and/or radios on in the carpark.

Network:

Harvest Moon

Password: eatpraylove78

INTERNET

Bali internet can be a little unreliable and temporary losses of connection can sometimes occur. You may also find the data to be slower during lunchtime and early evenings.

That said we have had several “digital nomads” come and stay and they have happily continued working on their businesses without any interruption.

Please be patient if the wifi is down – often the cause is due to the weather or the local provider and is outside our control We always do our best to fix the problem as soon as possible

PHONES

We recommend having a phone during your stay

You have some options:

1 Use your own phone: Set up international cell roaming on your phone, but make sure your data roaming is switched off as that’s fiercely expensive

2 If you have an unlocked cell phone: Buy an Indonesian SIM card You can use that SIM for both calls and data - 3G and 4G are widely accessible around Ubud and Telkomsel Simpati is recommended There is a mobile phone stand at Bintang supermarket and, indeed, on virtually any main road, at which the staff will help you install a SIM and charge it with pulsa (credit)

Making a Phone Call from an International Phone

The international dialing code for Bali is +62. To dial a local number from an international phone either dial +62 then remove the first digit.

Example: to call the doctor on 0 361 746 8151 from an international phone, dial +62 361 746 8151

CLEANING

Your villa is usually cleaned in the morning. Depending on the number of guests staying, the staff may come in the afternoon. If you would like them to come at a particular time, please let them know and we will try and accommodate your request. The team starts at 8 am and finishes at 4 pm.

If you wish to remain undisturbed there please hang the PRIVATE sign on the door.

Yudi is our manager and experienced in hospitality. He is a wonderful man and very helpful. Ask him about local traditions and any recommendation of Bali

Kadek Rita is our Senior Housekeeper and has been working with us for many years She lives in the local village of Lodtunduh with her husband and young children Fera joined us in late 2017. She is quiet, but super friendly, and cares deeply that our guests have a wonderful time at the villas.

Wayan Jepin is our youngest member and is still practising his English. He is thoughtful and kind and it would be great if you encourage him to speak English.

Tono has joined our team recently He is eager to learn and keen to ensure you have a wonderful stay in our villa.

simple breakfast as close as possible to the time you request Please tell them what you would like from the following selection:

Freshly cut tropical fruit or Freshly blended tropical fruit juices

Fried, scrambled, boiled eggs or a tasty omelette or Banana Pancakes

Toast and home made jams

Fresh coffee and tea

TIPPING

There is no pressure to tip in Bali, however if you feel the staff have done a wonderful job then they will appreciate and share any tips amongst themselves to support their families

ADAPTORS

There are 4 universal adapters in the bottom drawer of the kitchen Feel free to use them during your stay

Please leave them behind when you depart so that the next guests can use them

BATHROOMS

Indoor/outdoor bathrooms are part of the appeal of life in Bali. Having a shower underneath the sky or a bath surrounded by jungle foliage is an unique experience.

We are happy to offer you toiletries for your use during your stay You will find them in every bathroom Toiletries include hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner Harvest Moon villa has 2 hairdryers

KITCHEN, FOOD, WATER

Kitchen: Plates, cutlery and appliances are all available for use The staff will clean up for you every morning – it’s a good idea to rinse in the sink after use unless you’re fond of interesting ant trails and extra buzzing insects

Food goes off quickly in the tropics and can attract flies Keep food covered if it’s not in the fridge unless you want a host of unwelcome visitors

Water: In the kitchen you will find a water dispenser with hot and cold options. The dispenser uses bottled water. The water from the regular tap comes from a 55 meter well and is drinkable. We use it to brush our teeth and wash our food. Nevertheless, we recommend that you not drink it for your own peace of mind.

NOISE

With respect to our Balinese neighbours and to assure Harvest Moon villa is a peaceful respite from the outside world, we ask that the noise (eg music or TV) is kept low, especially after 9pm Turning on the water features will help mask noise from outside and assist you with your privacy This is a priority request

LAUNDRY

There are many laundries on the road to Ubud where you can drop off your washing Unfortunately, we haven’t found one we can recommend Most of them use industrial dryers that can be fatal for good clothes We use Bali Breeze but recommend you hand wash any delicate items yourself Please put dirty towels on the floor of the bathroom and the staff will supply you with fresh ones If you need more, just ask

SWIMMING POOL

Community Pool Hours are 9am – 6pm Having a private swimming pool in your villa does not mean you cannot use the social hub of the communal Desa Bulan pool! A great way to meet other guests and a good place to swim with children due to the shallow kiddy-pool Following heavy rains the pools may be cloudy, but are still perfectly safe to swim in They are maintained by our pool maintenance staff and gardeners, Pak Wasa and Koyo Should you notice any issues with the pool, please notify our staff and they will immediately address this

RUBBISH AND RECYCLING

We have a recycling service at Desa Bulan: ‘recycling’ for bottles, tins, paper and plastics; and ‘landfill’ is for organic waste and all other waste

Please keep your valuables close at hand and locked in the safe when not in use We would love to say that there has never been a theft at Desa Bulan but unfortunately this is not the case You can help our security staff by keeping your valuables locked in the safes when not in use

We trust our staff and know them very well. They tend to worry for your sake when they see valuables lying around. Ultimately your personal items are your own responsibility.

KEEPING YOUR VALUABLES SAFE POSTOFFICE

If you can’t live without that painting / sculpture or the extra souvenirs that won’t fit in your bag you can post them home to meet you when you arrive. The Ubud Post Office is located opposite Bali Buddha on Jalan Jembawan, Ubud

SECURITY AND PRIVACY

Desa Bulan rests within the village of Lodtunduh and we have an excellent relationship with the local ‘banjar’ chief and the community. Many locals were involved in construction of the Villas Our staff live in the village and are very proud of Desa Bulan We are very much a part of their community and are a welcome presence in the area Part of the appeal of staying in Bali are the beautiful rice fields and the indoor/outdoor style of living This can pose some challenges regarding security as we are living on the edge of the rice fields where people may walk past at any time. Please also be aware of this in relation to your own privacy whilst staying at the villa.

At night we encourage all guests to lock the doors of the villa, and keep the key with you, rather than in the door This acts as a deterrent to "would be” burglars For your security, we have three security men, or Satpams, at Desa Bulan who are on duty from 7pm-7am Their names are Pak Pendi, Nyoman and Komang. The Satpams patrol the grounds nightly and should you come in late, will show you to your Villa. They are also available to help you in case of any emergencies overnight. If you need to reach out to the night security on-duty, please call: +62 821 9495 5132.

The saying “you are never alone in Bali” is true as locals here live in family compounds Keep that in mind while relaxing at your villa with the indoor/outdoor style of living Should you wish for privacy, please let Yudi know or simply lock the door to your villa Unlock the door should you wish staff to be able to enter to make breakfasts and clean your villa

WILDLIFE

Your villa is nestled on the edge of a rice field in the tropics of Bali. We have built on land which was not used for farming so we are not taking away from the livelihood of our farmers by building on rice paddies.

The surrounding ecosystems of the rice fields and river are very healthy which means that you will see small geckos climbing the walls and the occasional salamander which is a slightly larger lizard

All of the lizards are completely harmless and they are more scared of you than anything else

The geckos will make a characteristic “geh – oh” sound In the Balinese tradition, if you are having a conversation and you hear the Geh-oh sound it means that someone is speaking the truth!

The geckos and lizards also eat mosquitos So if you see or hear them you can be happy that there are several less mosquitos now and one happy lizard

The same goes for the frogs which love the river and the ponds. They eat the mosquito larvae before they hatch and are again a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.

All the animals you see in the villas are completely harmless. If you’re worried about the lizards you can have a chat with the staff as well.

We have many guests at the villas who say that they are “mosquito magnets” and that mosquitos love them

To reduce the impact of mosquitoes we have the following in place for your safety and comfort:

The grounds are seasonally sprayed for dengue mosquitos

We have mosquito nets on all the doors

We have mosquito nets which cover all of the beds

The ceiling fans are actually the best protection against mosquitoes as they blow them away and they cannot settle on you

We have plug-in mosquito coils in all of the rooms

We also have electronic mosquito zapper machines for the patio and other living areas

We provide mosquito repellent spray for your use

Beyond that we recommend you buy some loose-fitting long sleeve clothes and pants. You can find these in any of the markets in town and they are inexpensive and cool to wear.

RAIN

When it rains here it can really pour! If that happens, close all the doors and enjoy the scene Often the humidity will build up through the day until the afternoon when it will rain about the same time every day and afterwards it will be cooler and more pleasant January is known as the “windy season” when you are likely to have more rains

RICEFIELDS

Rice growing is the essence of all Balinese life Each of the five phases (preparing, planting, growing, harvesting, fallow) are different and yet fascinating in their own way You might be visiting when the paddies are water filled like lakes, when noisy cultivators are at work, when villagers are shooing small birds away from ripe crops or during months of vivid green all the way to the horizon Watching the locals work the fields is an enchanting scene

EATLOCAL

I love to eat the local food It’s cheap, fresh and tasty There are buttery cubes of home made tempeh, fresh greens, real curried eggs, jackfruit curries and other tasty treats.

Called Padang, it’s the local food from Sumatra and can be recognised by the plates of food piled up in the windows. It’s very cheap at around IDR 30,000 per person

Traditional Indonesian fried rice (nasi campur)

This is available in hundreds of local cafes (warungs) around Ubud The best is Warung Teges on Jalan Teges, Teges at IDR 30,000 per person

Traditional Balinese suckling pig (babi guling)

Ibu Oka has been featured on international TV programs and is famous for daily suckling pig is at two locations: off Jalan Suweta in central Ubud, and a large modern restaurant on Jalan Teges, Teges (a 10 minute drive from Harvest Moon). The dishes start from IDR 55,000 per person.

Organise your own Traditional Balinese Feast

Call Wayan Suriani from the village to cook for you - her menu is in the information pack at the villa It’s something I look forward to every time I come to stay and a great way to treat new friends She makes a fresh home-made feast of traditional Balinese food to order Reach her at +62 813 3737 5227 the day before to order your food . She will deliver it when you wish. She also takes individual market tours and Balinese cooking classes (vegetarian or meat-based meals) in your villa.

HOMEDELIVERY

Please download the Gojek app or Grab app from your phone’s app store These are super apps that can be used for both transport and food delivery You can order many different types of meals from nearby restaurants in Ubud through the app Just add your delivery location as Desa Bulan, Harvest Moon, villa no 5, Jalan jineng Banjar Abiansemal Kaja Kauh, Lodtunduh , Ubud , Gianyar

Kue on Jalan Raya has very good organic breads and sourdough and also excellent cakes and chocolate

ORGANIC PRODUCE

Bali Buddha is a great little health food shop, grocery, bakery and café on Jalan Jembawan 1, Ubud. They will home deliver groceries as well as meals. +62 811 395 1202

There are a number of small, but well-stocked organic markets in Ubud. The key is to arrive early (9am) before all the good produce is sold-out.

Saturday morning: Pizza Bagus, Jalan Pengosekan is the largest, followed by Wednesday morning: Warung Sopa Garden Jln Nyuh Kuning No 2, Pengosekan The others are much smaller stalls, but well worth visiting as the quality of the produce is superb: Tuesday morning: Warung Alami in Penestanan and Sunday morning: Behind Sisi Bag Shop on Jln NuKuning

LOCAL INGREDIENTS

There are markets nearby selling local food Ask the staff where to find them Both the Ubud and Mas central markets are worth a walkaround just for the sights and smells, but you need to get up early. It’s all over by 9am.

WESTERN STYLE SUPERMARKETS

There are three large supermarkets in Ubud: Coco, Bintang and Delta Dewata. The closest is Coco, about 5 minutes by car on the way to Ubud The others are about a 15 minute drive from Harvest Moon Bintang carries a larger range of Western produce and their fish and meat are also higher quality You’ll have noticed that Ubud is saturated with convenience stores, where you can buy drinks, snacks etc

Food in Ubud is incredible – Here are some of our favourites:

ALCHEMY

The latest addition to the Ubud health scene is this juice bar, raw food café and health store It’s become a mecca for raw foodies with offerings including Almond Feta, Cumin Biscuits and Kale Chips Even if you are not a raw-food devotee, it’s still worth visiting for the juices on offer.
