IKIMONO Capstone project - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

BACKGROUND This project delved into the vision of product evolution in Hong Kong and even Asia. Research shows that there are a wide range of factors to consider, such as consumer behavior, cultural phenomenon and design industry the consumerism and the experience economy era. It exists a vicious cycle between human well-being, the design industry and the natural environment in this era. Through time, the negative impact might build-up like a snowball and post a greater threat to us.

DESIGN CONCEPT The design concept would bring user into the context of speculated future by present daily necessities from the future physically by using bacterium-based air purif ier. By applying the methodology f rom speculative design, it aims to critical the current situation and guide people to reflect on it. Further, proposing a practical solution by new way of product making with real function by using bacterial cellulose. Explore the possibility in product application by using the original characteristics of different bacteria. Ultimately, developing a new eco-friendly material that could make in product without industrial manufacturing.

Bacteria – a things existed 4 billion years ago. a word that often brings out a sense of fear in most of us. Most people learn about bacteria in the context of disease. So it's easy to think about the harm they do.

We c o u l d b r i n g i t f r o m microworld to macroworld, live with bacteria at the physical level by using their biological characteristics?

What if product could made of bacteria? Cultivate rather than manufacture product

In fact, about 1,000 different types of bacteria live in our body with different function.

Most of them are good for th e h u m a n b o d y s u ch a s fortifies our Immune System, Aids our Digestive System.

In Environment, it could be Pollution f ighters. Certain bacteria could digest or convert toxic substances.

Bacteria are living with us t h a t c l o s e l y re l e va n t a n d necessary to our lives, offering p r o te c t i o n to u s a n d o u r environment. They just like an uncountable numbers o f va ri o u s p ro d u c t s t h a t only exist in microworld with different function.

Neck Support Device Group project

BRAND STATEMENT Grace's Š, to user who want to maintain a proper neck and shoulder position and listen to music while studying or working. Our brand’s neck posture corrector is appealing than other brands of similar products because our product is custom fit using the 3D scanning technology, and allows the user to listen to music via speaker or bone-conduction earphones.

OBJECTIVE The major concern of computer users would be their physical discomfort due to their inappropriate posture, according to the research conducted by Occupational Safety and Health Bureau (OSCH) in 2009, it pointed out that shoulder and neck were the most discomfort parts result by computer use. Followed by the wrist, lower waist and hand.

It is believed that inappropriate sitting posture is one of the main reasons which lead to physical discomfort. Therefore, improving their sitting posture would become our main objective in this project.

BACKGROUND At present, Co-working space mostly divide into public space and non-public space that representing the public space are for outgoing person, the nonpublic space are for introversion person. However, most area and facilitys are tend to be shared.

DESIGN CONCEPT A semi-open seat that allow you to take a rest and enjoy your private time.Coworking space is the major area in living office. This series provides a place which allow you to eat and enjoy your own time. You can do some light work here such as take a nap reading reference books, checking e-mall or processing documents. Just take a break for a while and enjoy the little private space.

Living Office Living Office provides an updated understanding of people and their work. A high-performing workplace that delivers an elevated experience of work for people, and helps organizations achieve their strategic goals. This is a place where people will work not because they have to, but because they want to.

Communication They need a semi-private setting area for teleconference, a short meeting space and resting area.

Flexability Aims to provide a flexiable working space to improve the work efficiency and communication between people. The working space boosting cooperation of individuals is the trend.

Ergonomics Office ergonomics will reduce turnover, lessen absenteeism, boost morale, and increase employee involvement. Also, employees will appreciate that the company that they work for is working so hard to care for their safety and health.

BGB GROUP Location: SoHo – New York City, New York | 2015 A medical communications agency that fuses both creative execution and scientific insight, reaches out to architecture & interior design firm TPG Architecture to design their new offices in New York City.

COMMON AREA Colors of the whole area and the pattern of wallpaper correspond to company and job with visual impacts, which include Colorful (High saturation), Novelty furniture, trend decoration and 3D image. Like a living room, giving people a feeling at home with TV sets, a sofa, carpets, animal decorations and stove(can’t use), 2 kitchens and 3 telephone rooms. Those are beneficial to communication.

OPEN OFFICE The pattern of wallpaper correspond to their company and job. The mood of working space is comparable to that in traditional offices.

MEETING ROOM The most meeting rooms can accommodate 22 people, 3 Medium-sized and 7 small size meeting rooms. They are all named after the local street names with different and special decorations. The biggest meeting room is not colorful than others. It is more like a traditional office. The biggest meeting room can be divided into 2 smaller rooms through a garage door.

MEETING ROOM II In the “Green Street”, a lot of different lumps of wood pieced on the wall the create a mosaic which cut from the deserted skateboard. Showing the Street culture and will of freedom. The Portrait painting of Famous star.

REST AREA The open area allow people easy to get communication. It provides a lot of different working space which are casual and cooperation such as tea room, DJ table, snooker room even beer. The public communication space is spread over the entire area.

Location: Menlo Park – California | 2015 Instagram is a mobile, desktop, and Internet-based photo-sharing application and service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app exclusively for the iOS operating system.

LOBBY A digital gallery displaying content from Instagram. A big Instagram logo in the wall. 8 digital displays feature photos and videos. Others highlight Instagram’s signature ombre color scheme. To express Instagram is not just a big logo or app icon, there are content and culture.

LIFE-SIZE INSTAGRAM BACKDROPS Those scenes include a twinkling starscape, table of moon and sun, and a sunset-hued sky reminiscent of Instagram’s icon. A perfect place for visitors and employees to snap a pic.

MEETING ROOM A white-walled room. In function, it is different from tradition. Replaceable foam core boards snap right onto the wall. It can provide large places to display work and refine ideas. Two standing tables with tall chairs encourage participation and collaboration. Keeps people move around of the room.

MICRO-KITCHEN The vibe applies is the same as Conference rooms. Micro-kitchens on each floor. A great place to allow people to have casual conversations and build their relationships, even they work in different floor. It helps people feel like they are all one company.

LIBRARY Open floor plan required creating quiet places. Employees can concentrate or get a few moments of quiet. A shelves teem with art and design books and employees can sketch with colored pencils or relax.

BLUE BOTTLE Blue Bottle as a coffee bar. The design and color tone are similar to the others room which has elements of wood and white walls.

DESIGN CONCEPT This drinking fountain was authorized by AFCD that specially designed for Tai Tong country park. Presenting “Inclusive” is the goal of this project. The inclusive element is about how it can be suitable for human, animals even the natural environment. As a drinking fountain it’s more like an interactive sculpture. The emotional design element is applied for improving the visual enjoyment to people with breaking the stereotypes about drinking fountains of people.

DESIGN CONCEPT This grill was authorized by AFCD that specially designed for Tai Tong country park. This is a table and bench set with a grill underneath. The crowd of BBQ changes with the seasons that cause the vacancy rate in BBQ site is high in some seasons. To maximize the usage of venue, the variable usage allows people use it as a grill or normal table.

To attract young generation, this grill able to adept a wire grid to fulfill the needs of modern BBQ style. Holding the BBQ fork for a long time become an option but not necessary. Further, it allows diversities of types of food they cook even lobsters.

Mr.ROBOT - Male accessories Group project

BACKGROUND In Europe, men’s wear of jewelry is common thing for enhance their image. However, the Asian region is the opposite. One of the major reasons is that people will treat you a gay or sissy. Also, lack of the choice of style is also a fatal cause to bring this kind of atmosphere.

Therefore, we conducted different analysis f rom the research about male aesthetic, behavior of dress up and so on.

DESIGN CONCEPT This tiny accessory set can assembly as a robot statue before and after use, so the accessories can stand and as a decoration. Each set include a Ring, Necklace, Earring, Cuff Button, Tie clips, and pair of Collar Stays.

A robot skeleton is also required to complete assembly. When wearing the accessories, it just like the robot is fitting with you.

BACKGROUND Japanese people set a great store by etiquette. However, the sound insulation problem in japan is unsatisfactory. As a singing lover, sing at accommodation is impossible. The only choice is to go to karaoke which cost a lot of money.

DESIGN CONCEPT This design is custom f it by using the 3D scanning technology. The labyrinth structure provides a satisfactory soundproof ability which allow singer emit high decibel volume at home even at night. For the professional singer improve singing skills, they are able monitor their voice instantly by broadcasting the voice to the headset through the built-in microphone. With the singing app, users could obtain a complete Karaoke experience.

PARADISE In the stages of children growth and development, the most important part is “Play�, particularly the physical activity. In the past, people take their child to playground to have fun f requently. In recent years in Hong Kong, most parents would not taking their children to play at the playground even have a playground in their home downstairs.

However, this is undoubtedly giving an adverse impact on physical and mental health development of the child. It may include social skill, language skills, creativity, emotional quotient, hand-eye coordination, release stress. Therefore, if we can provide an environment and function just like or better than tradition playground at home, it should be helpful to a lot of family.

BACKGROUND According to the characteristics of millennial, they are sociable, fashionable and party lovers. The designs should fit millennial needs, they are modern designed and can be used by multi-users in the same time.

DESIGN CONCEPT Provide a best hanging out environment is the goal of this series. After a day of hardworking, people may want to gather with their friends to have a light talk like complaining with their friends about their pressure, or to play some relaxing board games, looking for a kind of light fun rather than clubbing in a noisy, messy place. Therefore, it could be a nice furniture that can satisfy home gathering users.

This creates needs in transporting items and paper works from place to place. If the office is spacious, it would take time and effort to commute. Our group chose to redesign office cart as our project.
