Greetings,

I am a fresh graduate of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, majoring in Product Design. W ith my relevant working experience and educational background, I believe I am qualified for the position in your company.

I believe that I have a good skill in communication and leadership. I have done a lot of team projects during my school period. As a senior student, I often become a group leader or decision maker in elective courses. For example, to decide the des ign direction, deadline of each phase. During the time as the group leader, I have learned that human abilities are always different. When someone is behind schedule, I would catch up with him/her and try to keep everyone on the same page. The experience accumulated when I was a design intern in Mainland China and Japan made me become a communicative and adaptive person. I believe that I am a good team-player even with someone with different cultural backgrounds. Further, one-year Capstone project when I was studying in PolyU and HKDI respectively helps me to able to work independently.

I am a person who willing to learn and progress, enjoys experiential learning and embraces cultural diversity. Previously, I conducted summer internships in Risingcn (Zhongshan, China) and Hiroaki Nishimura Design Inc. (Tokyo, Japan), respectively, as a product design intern. These companies were not comparable in terms of business sizes, which provided me with unique working experiences and learning points. For my internship based in China, my supervisor involved me in different stages of projects, including but not limited to discussion with clients, subject research, user research, product development, manufacturing, etc. Therefore, I had an exposure to cross-departmental collaboration within the company. It was undoubtedly a valuable chance for me to exchange ideas with people of different cultural backgrounds. For my internship based in Japan, I understood that Japanese people set a great store by etiquette. The Japanese drinking culture is deeply ingrained in business networking and socialisation. Furthermore, working overtime is common as part of the Japanese working culture. This internship allowed me to improve my language proficiency and respect for different cultures. Being attentive to details is their work attitude and the biggest thing i have learned as well. These internships expose me to different cultural values, which also present themselves as inspirations to design.

Hong Kong has been heavily tilted to the financial services industry and depicted as “cultural desert”. As a future practitioner of the design industry, I wish to be one of the many contributors that reshape the picture and transform this desert into a famed art hub for the years to come, the time when we can acclaim the collaborative efforts from the industry as well as the society. For this vision, I am determined to enroll in this position as the first to get myself well-equipped. It will definitely encourage me to move to next level and gain a unique path in the future.

In view of the above, I truly believe that my academic qualifications, working experiences and personality traits make me a qualified candidate for this position.

Sincerely, Wong Wing Fung, Harry
