Ron Woods, surrounded by the CCCC Tennis staff.
‘Legend’ Woods honored by CC Tennis Association By Gerry Maingot CCCC Tennis Pro The Corpus Christi Tennis Association recently gathered to pay tribute to a true legend of the sport, Ron Woods, whose remarkable achievements have left an indelible mark on tennis in the community and beyond. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades as the Director of Tennis at the Corpus Christi Country Club, Ron has been a cornerstone of the local tennis scene. Ron’s journey to greatness began in 1966 when he became USPTA Certified, laying the foundation for what would be an extraordinary career. In 2010, he reached the pinnacle of coaching excellence by attaining the prestigious title of USPTA Master Professional, a testament to his unparalleled skill and dedication. His contributions to tennis extended far beyond the court. Ron served as President of the USPTA, where he championed initiatives to elevate coaching standards nationwide. His impact was further recognized with induction into the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame and the receipt of the USPTA Lifetime Achievement Award, accolades that underscore his enduring legacy in the sport. Not content with just local and national recognition, Ron dedicated the last two decades to transforming the Tennis Success NJTL Program into a nationally recognized initiative. Through his leadership and vision, the program has empowered countless young athletes, providing them with opportunities for growth, development, and success both on and off the court. In addition to his national and community contributions, Ron played a vital role in shaping tennis in Texas, serving on the Board of Directors of the USTA Texas Section and advocating for the growth and promotion of the sport statewide. As the Corpus Christi Tennis Association came together to celebrate Ron Woods, the overwhelming sentiment was one of gratitude and admiration for his unparalleled dedication and impact on the sport. Ron’s legacy serves as an inspiration to all who strive for excellence, reminding us that passion, perseverance, and a love for the game can truly change lives. Here’s to Ron Woods, a true champion of tennis, whose legacy will continue to shine brightly for years to come.
