The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine was the host location for the 2018 kick-off event of the Harlem/Havana Music & Cultural Festival. It was an afternoon of magical performances that featured the Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Company and Chino Pons Afro-Cuban Band in this historic setting.

This international exhibit features 30 intergenerational artists and photographers who honor the unique and storied history of two iconic and diverse communities--Harlem and Havana. In an eclectic mix of styles and mediums each artist reveals the diverse legacies, the common bonds and humanity that connect us all. Artists celebrate Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Brazil, Puerto RIco, Haiti, Mexico and Harlem. Some of the featured Artists from Harlem included Diogenes Ballester, Elan Cadiz, Tanya Torres, Shawn Walker, and Leslie Jimenez. A few of the Cuban artists were Choco (Eduardo Salazar), Nicolas Lara, Clara Morera, Juse Aguilera Vincent and Elio Vilva. The exhibit was curated by Community Works’ Barbara Horowitz and guest Curator Elan Cadiz.
