The PERMA model is a framework for happiness and well-being based on Positive Psychology through five simple elements. Dr Martin Seligman, the founder of this model, ensures that given time and attention, these elements can lead to a happier, more engaged and fulfilling life.

These five main aspects are: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Achievement.

Positive Emotion

This element has the most apparent connection to the overall concept of happiness. A focus on positive emotion is based on finding the ability to stay optimistic and view circumstances encountered in a way that is constructive and positive. There are several types of positive emotions: joy, gratitude, hope, pride, amusement, love. Take some time to consider these types of positive emotions and which aspects of your life have brought these feelings to you. Try making these aspects of your life a priority.

Engagement

When we are actively engaged in doing something that we enjoy, our bodies are flooded with endorphins that elevate our sense of well-being. We need to recognize which activities in our lives leave us feeling most fulfilled and energized so that that these activities are given the necessary importance and time to be able to feature regularly in our schedules.

Relationships

The quality of the relationships we form with others around us helps us live a life filled with positive energy. It is vital that we seek out relationships that build us up instead of breaking us down; making sure we are conscious of how the relationships we have with those around us truly make us feel inside so we can know if these are in effect adding to our own well-being.

Meaning

For our lives to have meaning, we need to feel that our actions are worthwhile and matter. Many of us have at some point experienced the

positive emotion of altruism. Helping people is a powerful method for increasing personal happiness. Engaging in altruistic, supportive acts for those around us is incredibly rewarding and brings joy to ourselves.

Achievement

When we achieve our goals in life, we are rewarded with feelings of joy, pride and accomplishment. By regularly challenging ourselves with selfimprovement in mind, we can accomplish our goals and progress with new ones creating a cycle of fulfilment, purpose in life and a sense of moving forward.

Il-Ġnien tal-Qari

L-għalliema u l-istudenti jistgħu jmorru f’dan il-ġnien sabiex matul il-ħin tal-lezzjoni jaqraw ktieb tal-għażla tagħhom. Latmosfera f’dan l-ispazju hi ferm differenti minn dik li nsibu fil-klassi. Kif wieħed jista’ jinnota, l-atmosfera hi iżjed rilassanti b’għamara differenti minn tal-klassi, b’tapit

ħadrani u għadd ta’ pjanti. B’hekk, listudenti jistgħu jaqtgħu daqsxejn mirrutina tas-soltu. Minbarra dan il-qari individwali, l-għalliema jistgħu jagħżlu li jagħmlu sessjoni ta’ qari bħala klassi. Kif? Fil-ġnien tal-qari tista’ ssir lezzjoni talletteratura, ngħidu aħna tal-proża. Kull student ikollu l-istess ktieb u b’hekk filwaqt li jsir qari ta’ għadd ta’ paġni, dan il-post joffri ċ-ċans ta’ diskussjoni informali kif ukollħidmafigruppi.

Il-Future Classroom

CYBERCRIME

The PSCD department invited two police officials from the Cyber Crime Unit to deliver a session to our year 7 and year 8 students. The session was about cybercrime which refers to a wide range of criminal activities that are carried out using digital devices and/or networks. The idea behind this session was to promote responsible internet use and provide recommendations on how to reduce the chance of being victimised over the internet.

The police officials provided students with information on what is considered to be a cybercrime, raised students’ awareness about the risks and consequences of criminal behaviour online, and educated them on how to

avoid the risks of social media attacks, including how to apply social media security for internet safety usage.

Finally, the police officers provided contact information to students in case they are victims of cybercrime.

This session was very beneficial for the students, particularly to reduce the risks of cybercrime and protect themselves from its devastating consequences. Students were interested and engaged during the session. They were also given the opportunity to participate and share their opinions.

Internet Safety

Information and communication technology is always changing rapidly. The development of mobile technology has played an important role in shaping the impact of social media. Research shows that mobile devices dominate in terms of total minutes spent online and in fact people have the urge to check their phone and be connected anywhere, at any time.

It is important to balance our time on technology devices because people are getting addicted to technology and especially social media from a young age. At school students are learning about the importance of balancing time so

that risk of healthy issues such as eye strain, mental health difficulties and addiction are reduced.

Students are also learning about Internet Safety. Everyday more scams are being sent on social media or directly to our phone via messages. It is essential that students learn about scams, cyber bullying, not talking to other persons that they don’t know and to keep your profile on private settings so that only people you know can see your profile.

Students had the opportunity to show what have they learned by doing a chart about Internet Safety and Social Media. We encourage students to speak to an adult if they need help and block messages from people that they don’t know so that they are always safe on the Internet.

Healthy Packed Lunches for School Children

As parents and guardians, we are concerned for the dietary needs of our children. As they grow, it becomes essential to provide them with nourishing meals that support their growth, development, and overall well-being. The packed lunches should entail the essential nutrients and energy required to sustain their active mindsandbodiesthroughouttheday.
