From November 14th till November 18th of 2022 was a National Anti-bullying week. This year’s theme was REACHING OUT and the spotlight turned on how we can challenge bullying by showing each other support. This theme was launched by Ms Deborah Sciberras whom she is an anti-bullying guidance teacher in which during the special assembly she raised awareness with our students about bullying in schools and other public places. She also highlighted the fact of the importance to how one can prevent such horrible situations and if it happens, how one can respond towards it.
The PSCD teachers also carried out an activity in class where students were invited to think of ideas how they can be upstanders rather than remain passive bystanders whenever they witness a victim of bullying. The students came out
with different tips and they realized that there are many actions one can do to help a victim. The students wrote their ideas on coloured sticky notes. A common idea that a lot of students thought of was that it is important to have a friend or an adult that one can trust to speak to and have support. The support encourages you to stand up for yourself assertively to make the situation better. The participated students enjoyed doing this activity very much which was an opportunity that helped them reflect on how to challenge bullying situations on themselves and on others.

Code week
This October, 8EU Code Week was celebrating its 10th year anniversary. EU Code Week is an organisation run by volunteers who promote coding in their countries as Code Week ambassadors. The European Commission supports EU Code Week and other independent initiatives, which aim to boost digital skills, including programming, for different target groups.
St Ignatius Middle School took this opportunity to coordinate Coding games for all students. These activities were organized by Mr O Seguna (EO), Ms G Brincat (HoD), ICT Teachers and IT Support Teachers.
Year 7 students were grouped into teams and challenged each other in a game. With the help of their teammates, the two players needed to move to their opponent home by using codes. The winner would be the team who used the least amount of codes to be at their final destination.
Year 8 students used https://studio.code.org and were introduced to Minecraft theme. They needed to help their character move to the finishing position using codes. Students had fun trying to solve all the puzzles with each level increasing the difficulty.
Coding helps in the development of computational skills and furnishing many skills other than computational such as problem solving and thinking. We encourage students to keep practicing these fun games and applications in their free time.

Żjara fil-Palazz tal-Inkwiżitur
Nhar il-Ħamis, 24 ta’ Novembru, 2022, il-klassi 7E flimkien ma’ żewġ għalliema tal-Malti żaru l-Palazz tal-Inkwiżitur ġewwa l-Birgu. Din iż-żjara kienet marbuta mas-suġġett tal-folklor ġaladarba fis-Seba’ Sena, l-istudenti huma mitluba jippreparaw taħdita fuq aspett folkloristiku Malti. Il-ġurnata bdiet billi l-kelliem, is-Sur Paul Gatt, ħadna fis-sala tal-Kardinali u għamel diskussjoni mal-istudenti fuq dak li jagħmilna Maltin. Ngħidu aħna l-ikel,
il-ħelu, il-lingwa, is-snajja’ kif ukoll l-ilbies. Wara, intwera filmat fuq il-materjali li kienu jintużaw għall-ilbies tradizzjonali Malti: is-suf tan-nagħaġ u l-qoton. Saret referenza għal kif kienu jġiżżu n-nagħaġ bil-ġilem, għall-għażil u għall-insiġ. Kien interessanti nsiru nafu li l-ħajt kien jingħata kulur billi jiġu mgħollija l-fjuri, il-weraq, il-frott jew il-ħaxix. Hekk, ngħidu aħna, ħajt aħmar kien isir bis-silla filwaqt li ħajt isfar kien isir bil-lellux.
Din kienet attività interattiva ħafna fejn l-istudenti kienu fiċ-ċentru talesperjenza edukattiva għaliex mhux biss semgħu, iżda kellhom iċ-ċans li jsaqsu u jlibbsu manekkini bi lbies tradizzjonali Malti tal-irġiel u tan-nisa. L-istudenti kellhom l-opportunità li jaraw mill-qrib ħwejjeġ awtentiċi u saru jafu kif jinżammu sabiex ma tiġrilhomx ħsara. Tgħallmu wkoll kif fl-antik kienu jraqqu u jġanntu minflok jarmu l-ħwejjeġ mal-
ewwel. Ma naqsitx ukoll ir-reċta li saret fis-sala tal-Inkwiżitur. L-istudenti tlibbsu lbies apposta u rreċtaw wieħed mill-każijiet li żmien twil ilu kien tressaq quddiem l-Inkwiżitur. Wara, żorna xi ċelel kif ukoll rajna tipi differenti ta’ torturi li kienu jingħataw f’dan il-palazz.

Conflict Management Erasmus Project

In September of 2022, the school psychosocial team participated in a 4 day Erasmus project in Berlin. Here, the group had to opportunity to discuss important topics such as ‘diversity and discrimination’, ‘emotional intelligence’, ‘bullying prevention in class and as a school process’. All the sessions were very comprehensive and interactive with hands on activities included.
The team also had the chance to interact and work with participants from other countries. Together they were given the space to share experiences and discuss different aspects of their everyday practices. This, proved to be productive on
multiple levels as discussions were held on how one can improve the local system such as what can be done during quality time sessions between form teacher and students, the possibility of obligatory parenting skills courses and most importantly having supervision sessions for teachers in order to support their own wellbeing.
To achieve such goals, they discussed on the need to incorporate a positive and cooperative learning environment, be mindful of diversity
and discrimination, give importance to emotional intelligence, while actively listening and engaging with students to prevent conflict and bullying. This takes time and effort but learning these skills and implementing them on a personal, social and emotional level will be beneficial to all. In order to disseminate all this and share their experience, the team will present the material covered to various working groups within the college, throughout this scholastic year.
Ġimgħa Ewropea għat-tnaqqis tal-iskart
Il-grupp tal-Ekoskola, bejn id-19 u s-27 ta’ Novembru 2022, fakkar il-Ġimgħa Ewropea għat-tnaqqis tal-iskart billi pparteċipa f’inizjattiva tal-Kunsill Reġjonali tan -Nofsinhar. Il-Kunsill Reġjonali tan-Nofsinhar ipprovda kontenituri u l-istudenti ġew mħeġġa biex jġibu ħwejjeġ użati biex minflok jintremew u jinqerdu, jingħataw lil NGOs biex jerġa’ jsir użu minnhom. Din l-inizjattiva tgħin biex nifhmu aktar il-kunċett ta’ Re-Use u jista’ jkun li dak li mhux tajjeb għalik ikun tajjeb għal ħaddieħor, jew jekk huwa mqattgħa jista’ jkun li jintuża anki għall-postijiet fejn jieħdu ħsieb l-annimali. Mela meta tiġi biex tarmi xi ħaġa aħseb jekk tistax terġa’ tużaha, jew jekk ħaddieħor jistax jużaha qabel ma tarmieha, b’hekk tkun qed tgħin fit-tnaqqis tal-iskart.
Matul l-għaxar snin mit-twaqqif tal-iskola tagħna, l-iskola tagħna rebħet il-Bandiera l-Ħadra għar-raba’ darba peress li din tingħata kull sentejn. L-iskola tagħna dejjem ħadmet biex trawwem studenti li jħobbu l-ambjent u tistinka biex toħloq mexxejja bi mħabba lejn l-ambjent. Tul dawn l-aħħar sentejn l-istudenti tagħna saħansitra ġew magħżula biex jagħmlu awditjar ambjentali fl-Uffiċċju tal-Prim Ministru ġewwa Kastilja. Din is-sena ċ-ċerimonja tal-Ekoskola ppreseduta mill-E.T. Dr. George Vella saret fliskola tagħna u l-grupp talEkoskola ngħataw l-bandiera l-ħadra mill-ġdid. Dan ma jfissirx li issa għandna nieqfu naħdmu favur l-ambjent, iżda bil-maqlub din il-bandiera tfakkarna ta’ kuljum ir-responsabbiltà li nsostnu u naħdmu favur l-ambjent.

ikabbar l-imħabba lejn ilsienna fl-istudenti. Dan il-proġett li jagħti ġieħ lil-lingwa Maltija huwa frott ta’ ħidma kollaborattiva interna (bejnna l-għalliema talMalti u l-komunità taliskola) u esterna (nies oħra li taw kontribut biex jitwettaq dan ilproġett).
Is-suġġetti magħżula huma marbuta mas-sillabi u l-ħiliet tasSeba’ u t-Tmien Sena.
