WEST COAST
YACHT BROKER OF THE
QUARTER
BEN JOHNSON
Ben Johnson is our west coast Broker of the 4th Quarter of 2018. He had the most overall commissions and the most new yacht commissions! What are you most proud of accomplishing this quarter? I really enjoy bringing new clients into the Hampton family and connecting them with other cruising couples. With technology & speed of everyones’ schedules, boating is a great way to organically create friendships. How did you become involved in the boating industry? I got my start in sales when I was 19 years old selling motorcycles for Harley Davidson, Triumph & Honda. I think my parents were concerned for my safety and convinced me to get a sales job at Olympic Boat Centers in 2002. I quickly learned the business and in 2008 began to sell larger yachts at Lake Union Sea Ray. I have been with HYG since 2012 and can’t imagine doing anything else! What’s a cruising destination on your bucket list? I have done a fair amount of cruising since I grew up in a boating family: San Juans, Desolation, and more... I would really like to cover more ground in the South Sound now!
EAST COAST
YACHT BROKER OF THE
QUARTER
BOB EPSTEIN
Bob Epstein is Broker of the 4th Quarter of 2018 at our Florida office! What are you most proud of accomplishing this quarter? It was a challenge to coordinate all the events that led to the closing of 95’ Cheoy Lee “Footloose” but working with the captain and the service yard helped achieve a smooth closing with a very happy buyer and seller. How did you become involved in the boating industry? After building 10 successful companies, I settled down in Florida to enjoy my own boat. My boat broker asked if I was interested in being active in the business. I said yes, and the first boat I sold was over 1 million dollars. It grew from there, treating everyone with respect and keeping my clients’ best interests at heart. What’s a cruising destination on your bucket list? I have been to all that were on my bucket list. Favorites that top the list are New England in the summer, cruising from Florida to New Jersey, and trips with my son from New Jersey to Quebec City. We always enjoy Ocean Reef in Key Largo as well.

BOAT SHOW RECAP
Seattle Boat Show CHANDLER’S COVE, LAKE UNION JAN. 25 - FEB. 02, 2019 The 2019 Seattle Boat Show stretched for 9 days with surprisingly sunny weather for almost the entire duration. It was the perfect weather for our new display, set up on a larger dock with extended patio seating. The HYG Team, which included Robert Fiala, Scott Hauck, JR Yuse, Ben Johnson, Pete Sponek, and Chris Elliott from California, proudly showed 7 yachts including the new 2019 Endurance 720-24. The new yacht was oohed and ahhed over, and often had long lines waiting to get a glimpse of the cavernous interior.
Explorer “Graceful Spirit” offered a classic trawler styling with constant compliments on her beautiful wood finishes. Aside the Marlow was the 64’ Alaskan “Thalassa”, another seaworthy pilothouse yacht. “Restless”, our 65’ Pacific Mariner was lauded for her spaciousness and versatility. “Summer Salt”, the 50’ Sea Ray had the perfect deck to lounge on in the nice weather. The 58’ West Bay “Samba” received much attention and was quickly sea-trialed after the show and is expected to close soon.
The 76’ LeClercq was another popular yacht on display, with its sleek, dark silver body and unique interior. Our 70’ Marlow

Miami Yacht Show DOWNTOWN MIAMI | FEBRUARY 14 - 18, 2019
The weather was perfect in Miami, Florida to kick off the 1st Miami Yacht Show in its new downtown Miami location from February 14 – 18, 2019. On display was the quintessential Miami boat – the Hampton 830 Euro. Our slip located next to the water taxi station on the north end of the Venetian Causeway brought lots of traffic to see her. The Omni parking garage had plenty of parking for show attendees. A quick walk across the street brought you to a show entrance located right in the center of the show, and just
a short walk from our booth. For the first time the public could get to the boat show via the new Brightline high speed train! Upon arrival at the Miami train station you could walk to the show or ride the free shuttle bus. It was a lot of fun to meet up with many Hampton owners and VIP guests to share some Cuban sandwiches and Cuban coffee. It was unanimous from all that looked at her - the Hampton 830 Euro was definitely the best value in the show.

CHECK OUT THE OYSTER, OUR COMMUNITY FORUM FOR OUR WINTER WEATHER CHECKLIST!
r e t n i W WONDERLAND
The day after the Seattle Boat Show came to a close, the docks were covered in a blanket of thick wet snow. Move-out was delayed by a day, but our HYG crew donned ski jackets and braved the snow to check on our fleet of new and used boats and prep them for more cold weather. Termed a “snowpocalypse” by Seattle locals, the snow lasted several days, but didn’t keep our HYG team indoors! Meanwhile, our Florida office experienced several chilly days, as well as the typical Florida flash storm, where buckets of rain fall down almost instantly with little warning. Our team in Newport Beach has reported colder temperatures than usual along with more rain. Needless to say, we are all ready to experience some of that beautiful spring weather!

Tom & Kerri are HYG owners of "Valiant", a beautiful 56' Pama that can accommodate family, friends, and even a group of pirates. This year, "Valiant" did just that on December 2nd for the Special Peoples Cruise hosted by the Seattle Seafair Pirates. For this annual event, Tom dons his Davey Jones costume and gets aboard "Valiant" along with his fellow pirates to participate in this annual event to help bring some holiday cheer to people with special needs. All ages, all types of individual needs, some in wheelchairs, and other with caregivers at their sides are

The pirates help the guests to use the on-board radio to call Santa on an Argosy ship and make requests for their Christmas lists. On this day you will see more smiles than you can count. The event is followed by cupcakes and even dancing with the pirates - everyone knows they like to shake a little booty (get it?)!

CO NGRATS!
BROKERS OF THE YEAR CONGRATS TO ED CHAPDELAINE & JR YUSE!
EAST COAST BROKER OF THE YEAR: ED CHAPDELAINE What will you look back and remember about 2018? I sold three immaculate Endurance yachts on the brokerage market including 2015 E-686, a 2012 E-680 and a 2009 E-650. These and the sale of the 70’ Hatteras LRC, “Jabula” and the 2003 65’ Grand Alaskan flush-deck MY, “Lenora D,” enabled me to provide my oldest daughter, Weatherly, with the wedding of her dreams in May, to fish again with good friends in NW Ontario, Canada for ten days at the end of July then, spent two weeks cooling off while fishing for striped bass and feasting on Lobsters up in Maine at the beginning of September. In October, my wife and I toured France for 10 days starting with 3 days/nights in Paris and then driving south through the country, seeing chateaus visiting wineries and stopping off in out-of-the-way villages for lunches of fresh French bread, wine and cheeses. We ended up in Nice on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea where we had another memorable dinner in France in honor of my wife’s birthday. 2018 was indeed memorable. What do you love most about boating? Boats provide access to paradise and enables my chosen lifestyle. As an avid skin and scuba diver for all of my life
and enjoying the angling arts, I enjoy beach-combing and the health that comes from being physically active. Boating enables me to breath in the fresh sea air, feel the wind and sun on my face and to live a life outdoors. Boating and cruising also

WEST COAST BROKER OF THE YEAR: JR YUSE the difficult things that occur in life, it was made better and more rewarding to be able to share Seafair with family! Must also mention, Seattle’s Opening Day of Boating Season, our annual Rendezvous, 4th of July, and trips to Poulsbo, Port Townsend, Wine tasting... just to name a few. All aboard! What do you love most about boating? I love how a community of friends seems develop into a camaraderie that’s worth holding on to. We look after each other and help each other through the fog or navigate through other situations, always there for one another. I love to cruise, fish, crab, whale watch, BBQ, and swim from my boat! While I didn’t accomplish all of those this year, I did however make a trip to Desolation Sound and visited Brentwood Bay, Victoria, and Butchart Gardens with my sweetheart Margie, along with the latest addition to the family - our puppy Theodore Roosevelt Jr., otherwise known as “Teddy”. What will you look back and remember about 2018? 2018 was a great year for many reasons! I was able to not only develop existing personal and business relationships, I was able to focus on the heart of what it is that I love. I have water in my DNA and I love being on the water with my family and those closest to me, so it is nice to share something that brings me the utmost satisfaction. If I could share some pictures of the whales, sunsets over the water, and smiles, you would see that it was not just a year of hard work, it was a year of memories that were epic in adventure and new experiences. Though it was hard to deal with some of
What are you looking forward to in 2019? 2019 is off to a great start with record breaking weather for the January boat show and one of the best displays we have ever had. I am looking to continue with the goal of making every day count and to try to make a difference in the lives of those that are around me. We have great products including new Endurance and Hampton Yachts and many pre-owned yachts to choose from, and this year my plan is to get more people involved, in less of a business deal and more so, in a lifestyle that will help them create memories that last a lifetime!
encourages and promotes relationship building as working together and sharing relatively close quarters supports honesty and stimulates communication, cooperation and teamwork. Boating in general, is just a healthy activity.
Brokers with experience adapt and compete successfully for listings without relinquishing their ethics or moral responsibilities. Unfortunately, ethics and morals are often the first things jettisoned in lessor “professionals” when competition for listings and sales turns aggressive. Real professionals, stay the course. I have the wedding of my step daughter this year to look forward to and again, to fishing in Canada and in Maine and, who knows where my wife and I will go adventuring again, in 2019.
What are you looking forward to in 2019? I’m looking forward to the challenge of continuing my momentum in the yacht sales business into 2019. As yachts for sale on the brokerage market become scarce, competition for listings of quality yachts to sell ramps up.

Welcome
Hampton 650-27 Hampton 650-27 arrived in Seattle at the end of December after passing her final inspection at the factory in Shanghai. To the right are some images from the tank testing and inspection. Partner and Hampton Factory Representative, Larry Clark, explains that the besides tank testing, the craftsmen like to bring the vessel out into the natural light to inspect the interior and exterior to ensure that it looks just as good outside where it will be at home in the natural elements. We are excited to have Hull No. 27 of our Hampton 650 fleet in Seattle and begin the commissioning process! We’ll check back in soon with photos of the christening and a name announcement!

Flotilla
f avorites
A LIST OF BEST SOCIAL BOATING EVENTS Boating has always been an inherently social activity. There’s a strong sense of community that comes alongside spending extended durations together on the water. Boaters are known for their fiercely independent spirit, but this independence can lead boaters to associate group cruising and flotillas as being for beginners. Yet, boaters of any experience level can thrive as a part of flotilla or social charter. Most have loose schedules with some structure, but hours in between during which boaters can explore on their own or kick back and relax. Other benefits often include local knowledge, engineers and boat technicians on-call, and plenty of boat lovers to connect with! Here we provide you with several social boating events, including our east & west coast rendezvouses, social charters, and flotillas that you can enjoy across the country! Sign up - you never know when you might meet another Hampton or Endurance owner!

CUBAR SAN DIEGO TO BAJA PENINSULA
Short for Cruise Underway to Baja Rally, CUBAR is an annual trek from San Diego to the Baja Peninsula in early November. It’s broken up to an approximately two week journey for a total of 925 miles, with plenty of “fluff” time for socializing and relaxing. Fishing is plentiful as are opportunities to taste the local cuisine at waterfront restaurants. Optional activities range from wine tours to spa trips to hiking and birdwatching to exploring mangrove estuaries. Overnight travel is minimal and there’s pit stops and arrival parties in Ensenada, Cabo, and a final celebration in La Paz. A month prior to travel, the CUBAR leadership hosts a weekend training to ensure everyone is prepared. The 2019 CUBAR will kick-off on November 5, 2019 and Endurance 658-15 plans to be in attendance!

WAGGONER FLOTILLA TO SOUTHEAST ALASKA ANACORTES, WA TO KETCHIKAN, AK
Waggoner Cruising Guide is well known in the Pacific Northwest as the “bible” for northwest cruising, with an abundance of detailed maps of favored cruising grounds along with local knowledge and cruising tips. It makes sense that they would do an excellent job hosting flotillas as well! Each May they host an annual flotilla through the Inside Passage to Ketchikan. Potlucks, snow-capped mountains, whales, and seafood galore! Most of the trip is spent navigating the islands of the Inside Passage, during which one enjoys breathtaking vistas and scenery through the Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast, Desolation Sound, the Broughtons, and Northern BC. BIMINI FLINGS FORT LAUDERDALE TO BIMINI
The nautical version of a weekend roadtrip, “flings” to Bimini and other Bahamas islands meet at Bahia Mar on Thursday and then return on Sunday. Hosted by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and capped at 30 boats, this is a very social group cruising event. Beforehand, the captains meet to go over safety materials and gear. It’s an educational experience especially befitting to first-time boaters and those new to the area, but also ideal for experts looking to expand their circles. To many, it’s comforting to travel outside state waters in groups. Once arriving at Bimini, the itinerary is completely open - it’s a great place for water sports and lazy days at the beach, but also an island rife with history and cultural experiences. There are several flings to Bimini scheduled for June and July of 2019 - register now to reserve your spot.

B E HI ND THE S CENES On Wednesday February 6, the new Endurance 720-24 glided from our Lake Union docks along with Levi and Mitch of Soundview Photography for a photoshoot. The photographers began the shoot with some drone footage from the Lake Union docks of Endurance 720-24 aside the shimmering Space Needle. Then they climbed aboard the Bonus Vita, the chase boat captained by JR Yuse, to get additional shots of the new yacht cruising alongside several of Seattle’s most popular landmarks. Once on Lake Washington, Levi and Mitch climbed aboard Endurance 720-24 and began completing the interior shots and footage. The boat was beautifully staged and decorated by Sheryl Guyon of Pacific Coast Interiors. As the sun began to set, several running shots were taken as the new yacht cruised back towards our HYG docks. She returned to Lake Union right at dusk and was beautifully illuminated with her blue underwater lights aside a glowing Space Needle and downtown Seattle backdrop. Check out the Endurance 720-24 feature on pages 9 and 10 for photos from the shoot. Full photos are available at the Endurance 720-24 listing on our site. The final video is available now on our YouTube channel, our Seattle Facebook Page, and The Pearl Owners Forum!
