Hampton is academically selective and our admissions process is designed to identify naturally bright boys who will flourish and thrive in our vibrant, aspirational and supportive community.

Our main points of entry are Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and the Sixth Form (16+). Applications for entry to other year groups are considered at the discretion of the Headmaster, subject to places being available.
Please note: Boys may only sit for 11+ or 13+ entry, not both. Offers are not transferable from one entry point to another, and no entry point is ‘easier’ than another.
Registration is the first step for any pupil wishing to join Hampton. Our registration form is available online and a £180 registration fee required. This fee is waived for boys on Pupil Premium, please contact the Admissions team if this applies to your son.
We are delighted to welcome around 170 new Hamptonians to our First Year (Year 7) each September. The majority join us from state primary schools, alongside a number from independent prep schools which finish at the end of Year 6.

Candidates invited for interview meet individually with two members of our teaching staff (approximately 15 minutes each). Our interviews are friendly and informal and designed to help us get to know each boy as an individual. They provide an opportunity to explore academic and all-round potential, discuss interests and hobbies, and assess how candidates might contribute to the wider life of the School. The interviews also give boys the chance to ask any questions they may have about life at Hampton.
A non-refundable £2,400 acceptance deposit is required when accepting the offer of a place. The amount may be adjusted for families who are offered a full bursary or Free Place.

Boys in Year 5 can apply for deferred entry to Year 7 via our 10+ Advance Place Exam. Candidates sit two written papers (Creative Writing 30 minutes; Maths 40 minutes), and those who perform strongly are invited for an informal interview with a member of our teaching staff. A school reference is also requested prior to the exam.
Boys who accept a 10+ Advance Place are not required to sit the 11+ exam the following

year unless they wish to be considered for a scholarship or bursary. Candidates who are not successful, or who decline the offer of a place, are invited to sit the 11+ exam completely afresh in Year 6.

We are pleased to welcome a number of boys to our Sixth Form each year. Entry standards are high and candidates expected to achieve at least six I/GCSEs at grade 8-9, although in practice, most successful candidates secure 8 or 9 in all subjects.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS
· Personal Statement & predicted grades
· Online aptitude tests (approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes)
· Three 30-minute written papers in the subjects to be studied at A level
· School reference Interviews
Online tests include verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning. Candidates showing promise in the online and written papers are invited for interview with a Deputy Head and the Heads of Department for each proposed A level subject.
Offers are unconditional, however, candidates are expected to achieve a minimum of six grade 8-9 at I/GCSE.

Hampton Scholarships are highly sought-after and are awarded in recognition of proven talent and/or exceptional potential. The number and value of awards vary from year to year and they typically involve a fee remission of between 5% and 15% of tuition fees. Scholarships are not means-tested but may be supplemented by a bursary.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
At 11+, Academic Scholarships are awarded based on performance in the entrance exam and at interview. All candidates who sit our 11+ are automatically considered and there is no separate application form or scholarship examination.
At 13+, Academic Scholarships are awarded through the Common Academic Scholarship Examination based on the Common Entrance syllabus. Candidates are recommended by
their prep school Head and are invited to sit assessments in May of Year 8.
Academic Scholarships are not awarded at 16+.
CO-CURRICULAR SCHOLARSHIPS

Assessments and auditions for our cocurricular scholarships take place in the January prior to the September of entry. Further details about our Scholarship programme and the application process are available here. Scholarships are not meanstested and may be supplemented by a bursary award.
Co-curricular scholarships are available for 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry.
We are committed to ensuring that a Hampton education is open to talented boys regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. Currently 105 boys hold completely Free Places and many others receive fee assistance.
Bursaries are means-tested and awards range from 10% to 100% of tuition fees depending on the family’s individual circumstances and financial need. Assistance may also include other School related costs.

Our separate but linked educational charity, The Fitzwygram Foundation, provides additional funding for completely Free Places.
Bursaries are available to boys joining the School at 11+, 13+ and 16+ who are successful in our entrance assessments and who will benefit from a Hampton education including the wider, co-curricular life of the School. Further details about the application process are available here

In line with JCQ guidelines and the Equality Act 2010, access arrangements, or reasonable adjustments, may be available for candidates with a specific learning difficulty, disability, or a long-term medical condition, or for whom English is an Additional Language. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and parents asked to let us know as early as possible in the admissions process if their son may require special arrangements.
All requests must be supported by:
· A report from an Educational Psychologist, Qualified Specialist Teacher or equivalent Medical Practitioner, written within two years of the date of the entrance exam (a letter from a candidate’s GP is not sufficient)
Evidence of provision at the candidate’s current school (the school will be contacted directly for this information)
Requests for special arrangements must be received by 1 November prior to the 11+ and 13+ (including the 12+ Pre-test) entrance assessments, or by 1 October for the 10+ Advance Place Examination and 16+ assessments. We regret that we cannot consider late requests.
We caution against intense preparation which can lead to unnecessary anxiety. Instead, we encourage boys to read widely, practise Maths problem solving and to relax so they can do their best.
Our papers are designed to identify naturally bright boys and are appropriate for candidates from both primary and prep schools. We do not release past papers but the commercially available 11+ papers are similar in format and useful for practising under timed conditions.
Our English paper tests writing skills and candidates are asked to complete a piece of creative or descriptive writing based on an image. Grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and the ability to engage the reader are all taken into account. Writing should include controlled sentences of varied length and pattern, be coherent as a whole and relevant to the image. A short comprehension exercise is also included. (Boys may write in ink, ball-point or pencil). Candidates are encouraged to read a wide range of high quality children’s literature (for example authors such as Gillian Cross, Terry Pratchett, Rosemary Sutcliff, Robert Westall and Philip Pullman.

MATHS PAPER
Questions focus on problem solving and often involve multiple steps. Candidates should have a good understanding of core mathematical techniques (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and, equally importantly, know how and when to apply them. Questions include some simple calculations, number patterns, spatial reasoning and elementary logical reasoning.

WORDS
The Words & Reasoning paper tests candidates’ ability to extract information from factual passages and materials such as maps or timetables. The paper also includes questions on word meanings and simple verbal and visual puzzles. Questions are multiple choice in format.
Our extensive coach work, operated jointly with neighbouring LEH, provides a convenient, sociable, safe and environmentally friendly way of travelling to and from School.
