Firstly I’d like to wish a warm welcome and many congratulations to the players and management team of Pocklington Town. I also would like to welcome their supporters that have made the trip over to Haworth Park this afternoon, to this afternoon’s match official, and of course to our loyal supporters.
So the time has come and we are at the penultimate game of the Hall Road first teams current era. It’s certainly been a hell of a ride with many ups and downs along the way!
Looking at today's fixture, we’ll be looking to make this afternoon one of the positive experiences as we move closer to bringing the curtain down on this season and our time at Haworth Park.
After coming out on top in the return fixture at Bishop Burton at the start of the season, we’ll be looking to do the double over Pocklington and keep our own unbeaten run going.
The lads have been been brilliant since I took sole charge of the team.
We got back to winning ways on Wednesday night at home to Hornsea Town after two frustrating draws against East Riding Rangers and LIV. That took our tally to 11 games unbeaten with 9 of them being victories.
We know that this afternoon will be our toughest game for a long time, but we’ll be going into it full of confidence that if we follow the game plan and the lads carry out what’s asked of them correctly, then there’s no reason not to put another three points on the board. One thing’s for sure, it’ll certainly be a good advert for local Non-League football.
I hope you all enjoy the game today, please make use of the full facilities and we look forward to hearing you
Thank you for all your continued support.
The Hall Road Rangers first-team have recently set a new club record for the most successive league wins in a season.
They’ve recorded eight league wins on the bounce which surpasses the previous record of seven straight league wins.
Hall Road Rangers are delighted to announce that they’ve secured a partnership agreement with St Mary’s College which will allow all current HRR teams to relocate to St Mary’s Queen of Martyrs on Nidderdale, Sutton Park.
As of 1st June 2023, HRR will vacate Haworth Park after spending the last eight years playing from the ground.
As a club, we’re looking forward to relocating, working even closer with the local community and engaging well with the school in an effort to promote football to children within the school and surrounding area.
We’d like to offer our personal thanks and praise to Damien from St Mary’s College and the Head of St Mary’s Queen of Martyrs for all their help and support by welcoming our club onboard.
We’d also like to extend our thanks to Steve at Sutton Fields Pub who’ve agreed to provide all our teams with food and refreshments after their home games.
Following their 2-3 victory against Hull City Ladies Reserves, the HRR Ladies player of the match award was given to 16-year-olds Lillie Penna and Lila Abbott.
Lillie made some important saves including one from the penalty spot whilst Lila impressed at left-back and was a solid presence in the Rangers defence.
All at the club congratulate Lillie and Lila on receiving this accolade!
Our Soccer School is returning each and every Saturday morning from 9-10am at Haworth Park.
The sessions are all FREE of charge and they’re suitable for children aged 5-9.
The club will be running boys only and girls only sessions side by side.

Last November, Hall Road Rangers u15s played against Market Weighton Town u15s.
One of the Market Weighton players suffered a severe break to their lower leg after an innocent 50/50 challenge.
The Hall Road player involved recently sent a huge hamper and card to the affected Market Weighton player which is an excellent example of sportsmanship.
Massive credit to HRR u15s coaches Matt Vass and JonPaul Wadsworth and best wishes to the Market Weighton player.
Bullement screamer secures sixth straight league win
Hall Road Rangers showed plenty of grit and resilience as they extended their winning run to six league games with a 2-3 victory against Hessle Rangers. Hall Road had a number of opportunities in the first half. These included efforts from Cameron Davies and Luke Bullement which were saved and a Dave Harrison shot that hit the post.
In the 25th minute, Tom Iversen was brought down inside the Hessle box and the referee awarded Hall Road a penalty. Skipper Lewis Andrew stepped up and dispatched the spot kick to bag his third goal of the season.
Later in the half, Hessle had a goal disallowed for an adjudged foul on Hall Road keeper Haydn Withill. The hosts also saw an effort crash back off the crossbar just before half-time.
Hessle initially had the better of the second half as they kept hold of the ball and posed a threat on the Hall Road goal. The hosts equalised in the 51st minute as Harry Watts hit a shot from the outside of his right boot which floated into the back of the net.
Withill produced a good save in the 55th minute to tip away a Hessle free-kick. Five minutes later, Hessle took the lead when Ashley McWilliam produced an audacious lobbed effort from inside his own half which looped over Withill and nestled in the Hall Road net.
Tom Oliver got Hall Road back on level terms in the 72nd minute with his fifth goal of the campaign as he slotted home. In the 87th minute, Bullement grabbed a superb winning goal with an absolute screamer of a long range effort.
Hall Road Rangers: Withill, Pulford, Kocsis, Davies (Chaffer 64’), Wray, Andrew (C), Shepard, Iversen (Phillips 78’), Oliver, Harrison (Salter 64’).

Giving his post-match thoughts, Hall Road manager Chris Burke said:
“Today’s game was certainly a different affair to last week’s encounter against Scullies.
I thought we started the game confidently and had good passages of play, but we just couldn’t string anything together with any real purpose. We managed to get the goal advantage through the penalty, but after that we seemed to drop off and let Hessle back into the game.
The half-time whistle probably came at a good time as it gave us chance to have a chat and regroup. Unfortunately, we didn’t start the second half as I wanted us to and we soon found ourselves 2-1 down.
Like last week, the boys dug deep. They managed to not only get themselves back into the game, but kick on again with a moment of magic from Bully who hit a rocket from all of 30 yards.
It certainly wasn’t the prettiest of games for the neutral, but full credit to Hessle as they gave us more of a game than I expected. I wish Harley & Lewis all the best down there.
I said to the lads afterwards that good teams win ugly and this week is exactly that. It’s another three points and keeps us within touching distance, but the most important thing is keeping that confidence and buzz around the dressing room.
We don’t have a game now until the away cup fixture against Brid on the 15th, so we’ll have the boys in for training and be ready to go then. It’s a free hit for us, so let’s see what happens.
Hall Road Rangers are out of the East Riding Senior Cup after they suffered a 4-0 Quarter-Final defeat against Bridlington Town.
The Seasiders took the lead in the 17th minute when Lewis Dennison slotted the ball past Rangers keeper Haydn Withill and into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Bridlington doubled their lead through a well taken James Williamson header.
In the second half, Rangers started to get hold of the ball and looked to create some opportunities of their own. However, they were restricted to half chances and didn’t really trouble former Rangers keeper James Hitchcock in the Seasiders goal.
Bridlington increased their lead in the 74th minute courtesy of a Nick Hutton strike. Just before full-time, Dennison grabbed his second goal of the game to make it 4-0.
When asked for his post-match thoughts, Rangers boss Chris Burke said:
“I’m obviously disappointed for the lads. On the flip side of it, I’m also really, really proud of them. There’s going to be teams better than us that come here that Brid are going to beat 4-0.
I thought we stuck to the fundamentals and what was asked of them. A sloppy back pass for the first goal and a free header at

the back post for the second goal are both tough ones to take. Obviously, we conceded two more in the second half when trying to get back into the game. We’ve carried on trying to play and trying to do what we do. You’ve got to beat the best to be the best. We had the great result against Ferriby and we were obviously coming here confident especially with our league form as it is. You’ve got to hold your hands up. Brid are a good side and they’ve got some very good players.
I’m pleased for the young lads. We’ve got a lot of young lads in our team and this experience will have benefitted them. They’ve played in front of a few people and they’ve played on a decent pitch. That’s what they’re all aiming to do and they’re aiming to play at those higher levels.
They’ve put in a shift from the first minute to the 91st/92nd minute when the final whistle went. Overall, I’m really, really proud of them. One result doesn’t make a team a bad team. It’s also pleasing for the lads to receive some compliments off Adie, the coaching staff and some of the fans.
I asked them at the beginning to go out there and be proud of what you do. They’ve obviously done that with the compliments. That’s a big thing for me and I’m all about that. The result is disappointing, but Brid are a good side and I wish them all the best in the next round.”

Whiteheads Fish & Chips Cup
Rangers out of Fish & Chips Cup after penalty shootout defeat
Hall Road Rangers suffered penalty shootout heartbreak as they were knocked out of the Whiteheads Fish & Chips Cup by LIV Supplies.
In the eighth minute, LIV produced an effort which was well saved by Haydn Withill. Eight minutes later, Rob Hall had an opportunity for Rangers that was saved.
Rangers came agonisingly close to going in front in the 34th minute. A fantastic Lewis Andrew pass set Mason Chaffer through on the left who then looked to pick out Dave Harrison inside the LIV box. However, Harrison was unable to connect with Chaffer’s cut back.
Just past the hour mark, Rangers finally broke the deadlock and took the lead. A Jordan Hall free-kick delivery picked out Rob Hall and his header looped into the back of the LIV net. LIV had a golden opportunity to equalise in the 71st minute when they were awarded a penalty, but they smashed it against the crossbar.
However, LIV found their equaliser in the 81st minute when Callum Harrison got to the ball before Withill and lobbed it into

the Rangers net. Ultimately, the tie finished as a 1-1 draw and it went straight to penalties.
Ellis Miller, Jordan Hall and Luke
Bullement all converted their spot kicks, but Lewis Andrew and Rob Hall saw their penalties saved. Meanwhile, Haydn Withill managed to save one of LIV’s penalties whilst they scored their other four spot kicks which condemned Rangers to a 3-4 defeat.
Providing his pre-match thoughts, Rangers manager Chris Burke said:
“After letting the dust settle from Wednesday night’s result, we return to league action this weekend. We’re currently on a very good run in the league and we’ll be looking to build on that.
We’ll be going into the game looking to move on from the recent cup defeats. The lads know we need a reaction and we’ll do everything we can to continue putting points on the board.”

Whiteheads Fish & Chips Cup
Rangers continue scintillating league form
Hall Road Rangers earned a seventh consecutive league win with a 4-0 victory against Cherry Burton FC at Haworth Park.
In the opening minutes, both sides had chances to take the lead. Cherry Burton put a free-kick over the bar in the fourth minute. For Rangers, Jordan Hall saw a header go wide in the ninth minute.
With 11 minutes on the clock, Rangers took the lead. A counter attacking move, cleverly started by keeper Haydn Withill, resulted in Joel Shepard slotting the ball home after being teed up by Tom Iversen. This was Shepard’s first goal for the club. Eight minutes later, Withill produced an outstanding save which prevented Cherry Burton from equalising.
In the 29th minute, Jordan Hall went close again to getting on the scoresheet with a shot which was saved. There was a big let off for Rangers, just before half-time, as the visitors sent a header just wide.
Rangers carved out plenty of opportunities from the outset of the second half. Shepard had a header go wide whilst Iversen’s effort was saved after he nicked the ball from a Cherry Burton defender. Iversen made it 2-0 in the 61st minute with a slick finish after meeting Mason Chaffer’s cross.
The lead was increased in the 69th minute through a Rob Hall free-kick which he placed into the Cherry Burton net to get his fourth goal of the season. Lewis Andrew nearly bagged a goal with a long range effort that hit the crossbar. Cherry Burton squandered a chance to pull a goal back in the 76th minute when they blazed a penalty well over the bar.
Hall Road Rangers: Withill, Pulford, J. Hall, Davies, Waud (Bullement 73’), Andrew (C), Shepard, R. Hall, Chaffer (Miller 70’), Oliver, Harrison (Iversen 70’).
Subs Not Used: Salter, Phillips.
Iversen got his second goal of the game in the 79th minute after a scramble in the Cherry Burton box. This made it seven goals so far this season for himself.
Giving his post-match thoughts, Rangers boss Chris Burke said:
“Pleased is probably the best way to put it. Obviously, the result on Wednesday night wasn’t the best. I said to the lads after the LIV game and before this game that I wanted a reaction.
First half, we should have been better. We went in 1-0 up with a bit of momentum. Had a good chat at half-time and told them we needed to just raise our standards and our levels.
To be fair, they’ve come out and they’ve done that. They’ve scored another three good goals in the second half and it could’ve been more. It got a little bit scrappy towards the end, but it’s a Humber Prem game and it’s bound to happen some weeks.
The main thing is it’s now seven out of seven. I’m not sure how the other results have gone, but we’re creeping up there and we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing. If we do that and the lads carry on what’s asked of them and what’s expected of them, let’s see what happens come the end of the season.
The clean sheet is another added bonus. Haydn’s pulled off a very good save in the first half to keep it at 1-0. A special mention probably has to go to Fin today. I think he’s stood up and been counted, so plaudits to him. All the boys have dug in, done a shift and we’ve got our three points.”

Hall Road Rangers are again inviting supporters and local businesses to support the club by sponsoring a player in the Hall Road Rangers squad. This is a great way to show your support for the club as well as to advertise your business for the rest of the season.
You will be associated with your sponsored player for any announcements made over the tannoy system for the rest of the season. That will include during the announcement of the team before the kick-off, and of course if your chosen player scores a goal!
If you would like to find out more information or to take one of these packages please contact Dave Reader at the club.
So, ultimately, Football Association chiefs finally made the only sensible call they could have made in granting an extension to the season for clubs at Steps 5 and 6. But even though that affords the likes of Sandhurst Town, Brook House, Horndean and Bacup Borough a bit of breathing space from their ridiculous end-of-season fixture avalanche – Sandhurst having to play 11 games in 10 days at one point – there is a bigger picture to consider here.
Tackling congested fixture pile-ups come March and April is no new dilemma for clubs these days, and therein lies the problem.
On average, you can expect to lose at least two or three league fixtures over the course of the season, but on the odd year of extraordinary weather patterns such as this, contingency plans have to be put in place.
It’s not necessarily the regulation league season which is causing the problem – there are enough Saturdays and Tuesdays in the calendar to comfortably take in a 46-game season – but the numerous cup competitions which clubs are often obliged, or felt pressured to, compete in.
Take my old friends down at Fleet Town, for example. These days, the Blues ply their trade in the Wessex League Premier but that just scratches the surface of a gruelling first-team campaign which also takes in FA Cup, FA Vase, Wessex League Cup, Hampshire Senior Cup, Southern
Eagle-eyed readers of The NLP’s extensive fixtures page may have noticed that there are some regional or district cup competitions still trying to get through delayed second or third round matches. Indeed, for some, the backlog of fixtures is often so great that the competitions have. in the past, been carried over into the preseason of the following campaign.
Sadly, though, one of Non-League football’s great institutions is also implicated here –the County Cup.
This week, we saw two instances of National League clubs having to all but relinquish their challenge for honours at the semi-final stage due to fixture clashes.
Firstly, in Hampshire, we heard that Aldershot Town had been informed by the Hampshire Senior Cup sub-group that their semi-final tie against Basingstoke Town HAD to be played on Tuesday April 18.
But the Shots – proud six-time County Cup winners - had already rearranged their crucial National League game with Wealdstone for that date, meaning that despite their best efforts to arrange an alternative date, they had no choice but to fulfil their fixture but field their Under 21 academy side.
“The club wanted to move the fixture to give our supporters an opportunity to attend both our League fixture with Wealdstone and Cup fixture with
Basingstoke but regret that unfortunately a choice between the two will have to be made,” a club statement confirmed.
“We’re incredibly proud of their achievements so far in this year’s Hampshire Senior Cup and will be supporting the youngsters from Wealdstone.”
And, it was the same story along the south coast at Worthing.
Following the postponement of their National League South game with Cheshunt to a waterlogged pitch last week, the match was put back to the only available date left available, Tuesday April 25.
This, however, had been listed just 24 hours before the Rebels’ already scheduled Sussex Senior Cup semi-final against Hastings United.
Despite constant dialogue with the National League and Sussex County FA to see if the congestion could be eased, a solution could not be found owing to “multiple factors”, again meaning Worthing will have to field an under-strength side for the Hastings game with play-offs still very much in the offing.
Club chairman Barry Hunter commented:
“Naturally this creates a huge conflict as it schedules us to play four games in eight days, which is not possible without compromise.
“We would also plan to speak with the Sussex FA at the end of the season in the
hope we could work with them and other clubs to find ways to avoid the congestion experienced this season.”
Barry is right, discussions do need to be had. Most supporters have some very fond memories from their club’s respective County Cup competitions and take great pride in claiming regional bragging rights should their club be lucky enough to lift the trophy.
But the fact remains that County FAs such as Hampshire and Sussex can’t expect the likes of Aldershot and Worthing to put their whole season on the line at this crucial stage when there is still so much to play for in the league. If anything, they should be supporting their member clubs in their quest to achieve a highest possible league position. I mean, it’s in their best interests, right?
The plight of Aldershot and Worthing – and no doubt other clubs up and down the country – will once again place the future of the County Cup into doubt.
Personally, I like to think they still have a part to play in the fabric of a Non-League season, but unless there is more understanding and flexibility in the fulfilling of priority fixtures, then the more difficulty I have in making an argument for it to remain on the modern-day fixture list.
Something, somewhere along the line surely has to give.
