Good afternoon all,
Some Turkish delight for you all as I write today’s programme notes from Antalya, Turkey.
I’d like to offer a warm welcome to today's visitors in Hedon Rangers, today's match day officials and, of course, all supporters.
We took another step forward last Saturday with a fantastic defensive performance ensuring we saw off a resolute Hull United with a 1-0 home win.
A set piece was the difference; a perfect delivery from Spinksy allowed Sam O’Malley the advantage to lose his marker and head home early in the match, which allowed us the foothold in the game.
It was fantastic to be back playing at Haworth Park and looking across to see plenty of faces supporting either side.
Today’s visitors need no introduction, being the reigning Humber Premier League champions in Hedon Rangers.
We narrowly lost out to Hedon a few weeks back and there’s no shame in loosing to the league champions. We are looking to get the win in what will be a very competitive game with both sides having won their last two games.
With Burkey leading the way come kick off, I’m sure the lads will be ready to play on the front foot come 2:00pm.
Please do make use of the clubhouse upstairs and please do get behind the Hall Road Rangers lads.
Enjoy the game.
Cheers, Leon
A minutes silence was observed by both teams before kick off in respect of the recent passing of her majesty the Queen. This was Rangers Ladies first league opening game of the season against South Cave Ladies at Haworth Park.
Hall Road Rangers Ladies started the game on the front foot and scored quickly inside the first 3 minutes of the game when Rangers striker, Chelsea Bailey smashed a shot at goal from distance which flew in to give Rangers the lead 1-0.
Throughout the first half Rangers we’re in full control and dominated the play and possession which gave Rangers debutant goal keeper, Kat Collins a fairly quiet first half with some excellent defending to protect the back line by Corrine Wilshere, Kayleigh Tovey and Tiff Hamlett.
In the centre of the pitch was Shannon Tate, Olivia Nassau and captain, Leonie Sykes. These three won every midfield battle in the first half with Shannon Tate pulling the strings to show some great skill to beat players and get Rangers on the attack and came close to scoring herself on a couple of occasions.
Rangers wingers on the flanks were two 16 year olds, Holly Page & Maddie Whilesmith who both gave great accounts of themselves all game in showing great pace getting forward to support attacks and tracking back to defend.
After 30 minutes played, Rangers striker, Chelsea Bailey bombed down the right wing to the edge of the box before hitting an unstoppable effort that looped over the South Cave keeper to make it 2-0 to Rangers at the half time break.
Within five minutes of the second half, Rangers were forced to make a substitution when left back, Kayleigh Tovey landed awkwardly, injuring her knee.
With 70 minutes played the game was fairly even in the second half and South Cave managed to force their way into the Rangers penalty area when Rangers centre back, Corrine Wilshere was adjudged to have fouled the Cave player inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot! South Cave converted the penalty to pull a goal back to make it 2-1 Rangers.
The game began to open up with 18 minutes to go and Rangers Striker Emma Innes must have thought she’d scored when she found herself just outside the 6 yard box with plenty of time to take the shot, only to see her effort on goal, go narrowly wide. Emma Innes had another great opportunity to score minutes later when she saw her shot hit the post and come back out.
With 15 minutes to go Rangers striker, Chelsea Bailey sealed the win for Rangers, scoring her third of the game to make it a hat-trick with another shot from outside the area to make it 3-1 Rangers.
Rangers deserved the win and the 3 points to create a great start to the season with an opening league win.
Rangers player of the match was the hattrick hero, Chelsea Bailey. All 3 of Chelsea’s goals were very well taken and came from outside the area with unbelievable finishes!
Aside from her goals, Chelsea worked hard to press the South Cave defenders into forcing errors and winning the ball back.
(Emma Innes, Chelsea Bailey, Shannon Tate, Leanne Baggley, Olivia Nassau, o.g)
Rangers scored nice and early to get the game going with Rangers prolific striker, Chelsea Bailey getting her fourth goal of the season!
Rangers forced a corner which was well taken by Rangers striker Emma Innes, which was tapped in for an own goal back post by Kingswood player to make it 2-0 Rangers.
Rangers pushed on hungry for more and there was no let up for Kingswood when the in-form Rangers striker Chelsea Bailey scored her second of the game with a clever finish to make it 3-0 Rangers.
Baggley was rewarded for her great play when she met a Chelsea Bailey corner by heading the ball into the back of the net direct from the corner to make it 4-0 Rangers.
Rangers Striker, Emma Innes went through one on one with the Kingswood keeper and she picked her spot into the bottom right hand corner of the goal for 5-0 with a tidy side foot finish.
Chelsea Bailey was a live wire all game and became provider for team mate and central midfielder Shannon Tate who broke into the penalty area to finish sublimely to make it 6-0 Rangers.
Emma Innes made it 7-0 when played in by Leanne Baggley with a fantastic cross into the box for Innes to slide in and tap the ball home at the back post, 7-0 Rangers.
Rangers made it 8-0 before half time when Rangers striker Emma Innes sealed her hattrick by rounding the Kingswood keeper to tap ball over the line for 8-0. Half time 8-0 Rangers
At the break, Rangers brought on Olivia Nassau in centre midfield, Abbie Smith at right back, Lea Turnell at left back and Emma Wray on left wing.
Rangers had the game won first half and seemed to ease off with the same intensity but still managed another three second half goals, whilst nullifying any threat from Kingswood who failed a shot on Rangers goal throughout the 90 minutes
Rangers forced a succession of corners second half and when a half hearted clearance by Kingswood fell to Rangers midfielder, Olivia Nassau she made no mistake with an unstoppable effort from just outside the 18 yard box with an unstoppable rocket of a shot to make it 9-0 to Rangers. Rangers made it double figures when Rangers striker Emma Innes ‘MEGGZED’ the Kingswood defender before finishing into the bottom corner for 10-0.
Not quite done there, Rangers midfield maestro, the skilful Shannon Tate picked up the ball on the half way line and burst down the right wing beating three Kingswood players and leaving them behind as she cut into the box to ride a high challenge from Kingswood’s defender to then smash a shot into the roof of the net with an unbelievable driving run and finish of pure quality to end the game 11-0 Rangers which sees Hall Road Rangers Ladies joint top, only trailing leaders on goal difference by 2 goals.
It’s been a fantastic start to the season for Rangers who really hope to challenge in the upper half of the league this season.

Hedon Rangers AFC was formed in 1982 to provide organised football for the boys and girls within Hedon and the surrounding area, giving them the opportunity to develop a sporting interest that will last for life.
Since the club’s inception it has grown steadily in size and successfully competes in the Hull and District Youth Football League.
The club also has a thriving men’s section. The First Team play in the Humber Premier League, the other three teams all play in their games in the East Riding County League.
A further two veterans teams compete in the Hull and District Veterans Football League.
The club now provides football for over 300 children and adults from the 4 year olds in the Academy to open age.
At Hedon Rangers, their overriding intention is to make everyone’s involvement in the game of football as enjoyable as possible, regardless of age, ability or background, hopefully ensuring they develop not only as players but also as individuals.
The value of team participation in this development should never be underestimated.

As FA Cup draws go, there really is nothing like the fourth qualifying round.
Yes, the first round ‘proper’ (a word banned in NLP Towers), and third round draws will grab all the publicity but, for me, there isn’t anything quite like the euphoria of the final qualifier before the ‘big boys’ come in.
Give the change of the Non-League landscape these last few years, I would argue that the Holy Grail for all FA Cup dreamers starts here – and this week’s draw sure didn’t disappoint.
Take Anstey Nomads for example. The lowest ranked club left in the competition as I write this, the Step 5 Nomads have progressed through five rounds to get to this stage for the first time in their history, culminating in a 5-0 victory over fellow minnows Shefford Town & Campton last weekend.
Their reward, a home tie with Chesterfield, second in the National League with average attendances of over 6,000 and FA Cup semifinalists in 1996-97.
Who says the magic of the FA Cup only starts at round one?
And Nomads weren’t the only ones to pick a dream tie in the live talkSPORT draw this week.
Beckenham Town, riding high in Isthmian League South East having won promotion from Combined Counties South last week, were rewarded for their 5-3 success over Binfield with a visit of Dagenham & Redbridge to their modest Eden Park Avenue ground. What a scalp that could be?
Elsewhere, Coalville Town were handed a dream trip to Notts County’s famous Meadow
Lane stadium, steeped in FA Cup history, Sevenoaks Town were given a short trip to National League South leaders and Kent rivals Ebbsfleet United and St Ives Town were pulled out a home tie against top-flight strugglers FC Halifax Town, no doubt dreaming of adding their names to the cup archives.
Underdogs Hanley Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels or Ashington and Clitheroe or Bury AFC - in their first FA Cup foray as a phoenix clubwere also looking to continue the journey as this column went to press with Tuesday night replays – arguably the biggest games in their club’s history.
One tie which will stand out to the FA Cup purist, however, is Blyth Spartans’ visit of National League Wrexham. You have to go back to 1977-78 to stumble across the history between these two sides and a fifth-round replay played at Newcastle United.
After a 1-1 draw in the initial tie at Wrexham, the replay was switched to a snowbound St James’s Park and was watched by an official attendance of 42,187 – easily the biggest crowd of the season there and one which wouldn’t be bettered for 22 years!
Wrexham won the replay 2-1 and went on to lose 3-2 to Arsenal in the quarter-finals that season.
These days, of course, the Dragons are owned by A-lister Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and have dreams of replicating such glory.
But in order for the Hollywood storyline to roll into action, they’re going to have to rewrite history and get past old foes Blyth first.
Lights, camera, action!

Hall Road Rangers: Withill, Williams, Pulford, J. Hall, Chaffer, Andrew (C), R. Hall (O’Malley 71’), Iversen (Waud 67’), Spinks, Miller (Bullement 67’), Oliver.
Subs Not Used: McKinney, Murray.
Hall Road Rangers are through to the Second Round of the Whiteheads Fish & Chips Cup after securing an emphatic 1-6 victory against Beverley Town Reserves at Norwood Recreation Ground.
The hosts had a half chance in the eighth minute when they hit a shot wide after a sloppy pass from Hall Road’s defence gave the ball away. Three minutes later, Rangers created a chance of their own through a good run from Tom Oliver which resulted in him hitting an effort wide.
In the 33rd minute, Chris Spinks saw a curled effort go just wide. Before the halftime whistle, a Rob Hall header hit the post after he got on the end of a Spinks set piece delivery.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 53rd minute. Oliver latched onto a great through ball from Spinks and cooly slotted the ball into the back of the net to put Rangers in front and get his first goal for the club.
Finn Pulford doubled Hall Road’s lead in the 55th minute as he was on hand to bundle the ball over the line to secure his first HRR goal. The goal blitz continued in the 57th minute when Tom Iversen met an Ellis Miller pass and fired the ball home to make it 0-3.
As the game was beginning to draw to a close, Rangers extended their lead even further. Oliver made it a brace for himself in the 80th minute with a lovely finish. Just seconds later, Spinks got himself on the
scoresheet with a fantastic chipped effort which looped into the back of the net.
Beverley Town Reserves got a late consolation through a Shaun Scotthorne effort in the 85th minute which meant that Rangers couldn’t keep a clean sheet on the night. However, a great finish from Spinks to get himself a brace added some more gloss on the final score.
Rangers manager Leon Sewell was very pleased with his side’s attacking output: He said: ”Firstly, I’d like to thank Beverley for hosting the game tonight. The first half was a really good, competitive game. I said to the lads at half-time that it’ll be one nil, so they’ve proved me wrong with that.
I think our fitness showed in the second half and our quality came through. We made a couple of little tweaks and asked them to do a couple of different things and they’ve delivered it.
I think we scored six really good goals. Happy, but still disappointed from Saturday’s league defeat. What we did tonight should have been done on Saturday.
Take nothing away from it. It’s the reaction that we wanted from the boys.
I was tempted to make a lot of changes, but gave 14 of the lads from Saturday a second chance and they’ve stood up to it tonight.
I’m really happy. Six good goals and we’re into the next round.”
Hall Road Rangers were comprehensively beaten by South Cave United as they suffered a 4-1 defeat.
The early stages of the game saw both sides have half chances. South Cave fired an effort over the bar in the eighth minute whilst Rangers created an opening a minute later through a Lucas Robinson shot which went straight at the South Cave keeper.
In the 15th minute, Rangers took the lead courtesy of a debut goal from Kian Salter as he sent a great strike into the back of the net.
A long throw into the Hall Road box caused problems in the 21st minute which led to a header being put just wide by the hosts. Two minutes later, South Cave equalised when former Rangers player Josh Tennant bundled the ball home. In the 26th minute, the hosts turned things round and took the lead thanks to a Craig Sedman effort.
South Cave extended their lead a couple of minutes before the break as a shot from Tom Andrews went through Rangers keeper Haydn Withill and squirmed into the back of the net.
There wasn’t a significant reaction from Hall Road in the second half and South Cave looked more likely to add to their lead. They did exactly that in the 65th minute when Tennant made it a brace for himself by getting to the ball before Withill and looping it into the empty net.
Hall Road Rangers: Withill, Williams (Miller 67’), Pulford, J. Hall, Chaffer, Andrew (C), Loughton (O’Malley 67’), Waud, Iversen (Shepard 67’), Salter, Robinson.
Sub Not Used: Emmerson.
Reflecting on the game, Rangers boss Leon Sewell admitted that his side still have a lot to learn and work on:
“Obviously, there’s a lot of emotions flying around after a heavy defeat. In true reflection, South Cave fully deserved their victory.
A really bad day at the office and there’s no excuses from me or the players. Six senior players unavailable and six players aged 19 and under featured in the squad and it’s a huge learning curve for all of us.
What’s most disappointing is I thought we were the better team at the start of the game and new signing Kian Salter took his goal exceptionally well. We failed to push on and let South Cave back into the game very easily.
The Humber Premier League has some tough, strong and footballing sides in it and we need to quickly adapt to it. Otherwise, we’ll be left behind the chasing pack as such.
Hopefully, we’ll have some players return to training in midweek as we prepare for Hessle Sporting away which’ll be another tough test away from home.”
