PANTHER PAW PRINTS

Hage Elementary School Newsletter April 2025 Issue

In This Issue...

Hello Hage Panthers,

As we head into April, our students are hitting their stride and will have many opportunities to showcase their genius. Amongst the culminating opportunities for all grade levels, students will participate in district assessments and statewide tests. These opportunities are meant to capture student growth and celebrate learning. Exact dates for these assessments will be shared by your classroom teacher and via School Messenger. Please remind your student to show the Hage way by doing their best.

In April, 3rd-5th grade students will continue participating in our Swim Program. Our school is one of only a few schools in our district that have a swim program available. Our top-notch Physical Education program allows for this to happen in conjunction with support from our PTA and various donors. This program has existed in our school for over 2 decades and has provided hundreds of free swim lessons to our Hage Panthers. This opportunity provides critical water safety learning and memories to last a lifetime. For more information on our Swim Program, please check our website: https://hage.sandiegounified.org/swim_program.

Our Leader in Me focus will be on Habit #7, “Sharpen the Saw”. This habit will be incorporated in classrooms and across all environments. Additionally, this habit fits well with our culminating activities and will be used to push student achievement to even higher levels. I encourage all families to engage in conversations about our Leader in Me habits and challenge our students to show leadership characteristics throughout a variety of settings (Ie. home, classroom, recess, field trips, park, community, etc…).

Finally, I am extremely thankful for our connections. Opportunities for us to connect allow us to build our bonds stronger. Look forward to the Spring PTA Swap Meet on Saturday, April 12 and PTA movie Night on April 18. Additionally, please connect with your student’s teacher for classroom volunteering and participation in other events throughout the month.

With appreciation, Mr. Lee

Principal James Lee

Dear Hage Families,

We’re heading into the last stretch of school before 5 th Grade Promotion, the last day of school for all others, and Summer break to begin. Two months left and still a lot of happenings to come.

A lot happened during the months of February and March. I hope you were able to participate and enjoy some of the events that the PTA hosted. On Family Science Night,

we got to see pigs fly around the auditorium. Family members were able to come on campus for Bring Your Family to School Week. Whether it was to read to your child’s classroom, partake in an art or science project, play math games, or join in the fun of Dance Fitness. It was fun to see so many parents take advantage of coming back on campus during that week. Parents and guardians were able to read to their child’s classroom and other classes for Read Across America. If you didn’t come to the Glow Dance Party in March, you missed a fun time to “glow” while dancing with your child to their favorite music. The Scholastic Book Fair was another huge success where many families showed up in the afternoon after Parent / Teacher conferences to shop with their kiddos. A huge shout out to the volunteers who were there every day, all morning, to help the students with their shopping needs. None of this could have happened without the help and reliability of helpers and volunteers like them.

Your opportunity to volunteer and help will continue through April. While few of the events are recurring, there will be the first-ever Hage Elementary Swap Meet /Rummage Sale on Saturday, April 12th. Sell your stuff or come to shop….or do both. On Friday, April 18th, the first-ever Klassic Kids / Hage Elementary Family Movie Night will be held in the back parking lot. Klassic Kids will host while Hage will set up the concession stand. Don’t forget the PTA General Meeting on Wednesday, April 9th, for PTA members to vote in next year’s Executive Board. The 5th Grade Promotion Team will be having a restaurant fundraiser on Tuesday, April 29, at Surfside Sea Food House. Come enjoy some good food and help the 5th grade class earn some money for some fun events during Promotion Week at the end of May. Start planning for Teacher / Staff Appreciation during the week of May 5 to May 9 to thank them for all they do.

It is always great to see the participation of students and families at the many events that PTA Hage and 5th Grade Promotion hosts throughout the school year. This shows that the Hage community comes together for each other and supports the students in so many different ways. The year is not over yet so let’s keep that support going.

Thank you to all of you,

FEBRUARY & MARCH WRAP-UP

CHARACTER READING CHARACTER READING BOOK FAIR BOOK FAIR

In honor of Read Across America Day on March 2nd, students were treated to a special treat: Book readings by Captain America and Captain Marvel!

We ended March with our Spring book fair. Our total sales equated to over 1,200 books which directly impacts ALL Panthers by funding our Scholastic Magazines for next school year.

SCIENCE NIGHT

Crazy Science came out to Hage for family science night in February. The kids learned about the science of flight with hands on interactive demonstrations and activities.

FEBRUARY & MARCH WRAP-UP

MR. LEE GETS SLIMED

GLOW PARTY GLOW PARTY

SWIM PROGRAM SWIM PROGRAM

Our annual swim program for 3rd-5th graders kicked off in March at the Ned Baumer pool.

To celebrate meeting our Fun Run fundraising goal, the students gathered to watch Principal Mr. Lee get slimed followed by getting silly stringed by the 5th graders. The kids lit up the night with a glow-inthe-dark dance party in March. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out!

Celebrating National School Library Month

We’re thrilled to announce that our Hage Library has officially reopened after five years, now featuring our wonderful new librarian, Ms. Lynn!

In addition to books, the library also houses our exciting STEAM Lab, which our students have been visiting weekly all year. Now, during their visits, they have the opportunity to check out books to take home. Students of all grade levels can borrow books for two weeks at a time.

The process is quick and fun! Six students at a time select their books, hopscotch up to Ms. Lynn’s desk for scanning, and then head off to the STEAM Lab. It’s an engaging way for students to enjoy both reading and hands-on learning!

We’re excited to see our students exploring new worlds through both books and STEAM activities!

Complete the Order form or purchase in person every Friday in the back parking lot after school
