Summer Term 2
This week we have been treated to a fabulous performance by Year 6 of Mary Poppins Jr. A special thank you to Ms Rockley, who has led this production and all the Junior School staff team that work extremely hard by the scenes to put on these events. The girls took us to Cherry Tree Lane, with the magical arrival of Mary Poppins who sweeps into the Banks’ home and takes charge of the children. All the girls showed tremendous character, dedication and flair that left us in awe.
Following on from our parents’ evenings, we are seeking parents views on the format; please complete this short survey by Thursday 20th June.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Please could we ask that they fill it with any combination of sweets, chocolate, toys, puzzles etc - basically anything they would like to receive back. Habs Choristers is an auditioned choir that sings three services a year outside of school. Potential choristers do not need to be taking voice lessons and, although being able to read musical notation would be an advantage, it is not a requirement – the choir is open to all who enjoy singing to a high standard. This year the Habs Choristers has performed at St John the Baptist Church, Chipping Barnet, All Saints, Margaret Street in London and, on 22 June, will sing at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. For our services outside of school the group is joined by professional musicians, most of whom are former Cambridge Choral Scholars. For an idea of the sort of performances that the choir will give, please click the links below:
Evensong – Corpus Christi College, Cambridge – June 2023
Carol Service – St John the Baptist Church, Chipping Barnet – December 2023
Evensong – All Saints, Margaret Street – April 2024
Auditions for next will be held at lunchtimes on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June and will be conducted by me and a member of the Junior School Music team. Rehearsals are held between 8.00 – 8.30am on Tuesday and Thursday and will begin the following week; taking up a place in the choir requires attendance at both weekly rehearsals. Please discuss this new opportunity with your child and to register for an audition please fill in this form.
The audition
Sing the opening choruses and opening verse of the hymn: All things bright and beautiful
All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small.
All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God that made them all.
Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings. He made their glowing colours, And made their tiny wings.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small.
All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God that made them all.
Sing back some phrases of an unfamiliar piece
Sing some scales to assess range
Habs Choristers aims to provide an opportunity for girls to sing choral music of the English Choral Tradition to a high standard through the creation of an auditioned musical ensemble at the Junior School. The pupils may be exposed to a style of music and singing they might not previously have encountered and the choir will work with professional musicians on a regular basis. In creating this ensemble the school will promote a cultural experience consistent with the school’s historical foundation but which is open to pupils from all religious and cultural backgrounds; the choir will visit places of cultural importance to sing.
As previously stated the music that the choir will sing will be sacred and the services in which they will sing outside of school will be Christian. However, and I can’t stress this strongly enough, this should present no barrier to anyone of any faith or none auditioning for the choir. My own experience as a singer is that the world of choral music is very diverse with everyone feeling able to sing, what is in essence, excellent music set to profound and poetic texts. For some the words have greater meaning but for others they do not.

Evensong – All Saints, Margaret Street – April 2024
Auditions for next year will be held at lunchtimes in the week commencing 9 September and will be conducted by members of the Junior School Music and Performing Arts team. Rehearsals are held between 8.00 – 8.30am on Tuesday and Thursday and will begin the following week; taking up a place in the choir requires attendance at both weekly rehearsals. Please discuss this new opportunity with your child and to register for an audition please fill in this form.
The audition: Sing the opening choruses and opening verse of the hymn: All things bright and beautiful
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small.
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God that made them all.
Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings.
He made their glowing colours, And made their tiny wings.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small.
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God that made them all.
In creating this ensemble, the school will promote a cultural experience consistent with the school’s historical foundation but which is open to pupils from all religious and cultural backgrounds; the choir will visit places of cultural importance to sing.
As previously stated, the music that the choir will sing will be sacred and the services in which they will sing outside of school will be Christian.
