Aquick round up…

What a wonderful time we have had in the Junior School this week!

Thank you so much to all the contributors to the booklet and to the entire Junior School community for their incredible enthusiasm this week! The girls have had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities in line with our theme of Diversity and Inclusion. These have included workshops from Zest Dance, Big Foot Education, KAOS Organisation, Eleanor Morrison, Lauren Press, Zebedee Inclusive Modelling Agency, Jewish Blind & Disabled Charity and the Afro-Caribbean Society.

We hope you enjoy looking through the pictures that capture an incredible week in the Junior School.

Recipes

Challah Bread

Talia (3A) and her family enjoy making Challah bread together. Here is a recipe they follow Kosher baby challah rolls | Tesco Real Food

For different occasions, the Scott family make fun variations of Challah bread, here are some examples:

1. Add chocolate chips to the dough for Rosh Hashana (Jewish new year)

2. When we read the section of the Torah with the story of Noah's ark, we make a rainbow Challah to remind us of the miracle of the rainbow. To do this you add food colouring to each of the 3 strands of dough and plait them together

3. Make Challah in different shapes, e.g a key for the first Shabbat after Passover, or a Chanukiah for Chanukah

4. Add the spice za'atar to the dough (for no particular reason other than it's delicious!)

Community

Ria (3 Alpha) visited her 106-year-old relative in a care home. A wonderful example of cross generational family bonds. I’m sure Ria and her relative have many stories to share with each other.

Sahana (Rainbow Red) learns Bharathanatyam, a form of Indian classical dancing. She recently performed in a Winter Bharathanatyam Show which raised £500 for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Lila (Rainbow Blue) regularly volunteers at her local Hindu Temple, Hare Krishna Bhaktivedanta Manor ISKCON with her grandparents.

This week she has been helping with preparing food for the devotees and community for the festival of Holi.

Poetry

Poetry

A poem loved by Anya (5 Aleph)

Although my needs may be special, I may not walk and run so fast.

Although my needs may be special, I feel and hurt the same.

Although my needs may be special, I may talk a little funny.

Although my needs may be special, I love and want just like you.

Although my needs may be special, I may look a little different.

Although my needs may be special, I'm just as curious and scared.

Although my needs may be special, I may learn and read a little slower.

Although my needs may be special, I AM SPECIAL; I'm a child of God like you
