REGION FOUR IS FIRST One Guyana President’s Cup Champions

Region Four copped the inaugural
One Guyana President’s Cup beating Region Three 2-1 on January 1 at the Track and Field Stadium in Leonora. Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) players won the $2 million top prize, while Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) took home the $1 million runner-up prize and Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice)won$500,000.
Ten regional teams were seeded and placed into two groups of five in the elite end-of-year tournament which was organised to create opportunities to scout new talent within communities that were traditionally off the formal football grid and to give senior players a platform to shine “This is about a mission and an aspiration of us getting into the next World Cup. The government is committed to removing all barriers that will prevent you from giving your best shot in getting into the next World Cup,” sharedGuyana’sPresidentIrfaanAli.
