Jessica is a senior from Charleston, South Carolina, double-majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Since 2020, she has been a research assistant in the RW Turner Lab at the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She was selected as a 2021-2022 Luther Rice Research Fellow, and won for Graduate Health Sciences and Public Health at GW’s 2021 Research Showcase. Jessica is also editor-in-chief for Capitol Letters, GW’s literary magazine.

Jaylee Davis is a sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia, majoring in English. She is a member of the University Honors Program and currently works as a research assistant for Dr. Randi Kristensten in the University Writing Department.

Aldonza is a senior from Truro, Iowa, double-majoring in English and Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and the Environment. She currently works at the Wilbur V. Harlan Greenhouse aiding in botanical and ecological research preparation and initiatives. Previously, she was an assistant in various ecology labs on the GW Foggy Bottom campus. She is also a social media and events manager for the GW Greenhouse Club.

Veronika is a senior from Portland, Oregon, majoring in Biological Anthropology. She is a member of Dr. Chet Sherwood’s Evolutionary Neuroscience lab, where she studies aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Prior, she worked in Dr. Colin Young’s lab at the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences, investigating the role of the brain in metabolic diseases. Veronika is a member of the University Honors Program and a combined degree student who will stay at GW to receive her MS in Human Paleobiology.

Eleanor is a senior from Des Moines, Iowa, double-majoring in Public Health and English. Previously, she’s worked with the Polk County Health Department to research local economic and health inequities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her other research interests include queer approaches to English Renaissance drama and Medieval poetry. Eleanor is also the Executive Producer of the GW Shakespeare Company and plans to pursue a Master’s in Library Science next spring.

Nammu is a senior from Seattle, Washington, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Criminal Justice. She plans to pursue criminal/civil law and is currently a member of GW’s Pre-Law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. Nammu is a part of GW’s Women’s Club Lacrosse and is an orientation leader for GW.

Jenna Ahart (Spring Director of GW Scope & Natural Sciences Editor)

Jenna is a freshman from West Chester, Pennsylvania, who majors in Journalism and Mass Communications with a minor in Astronomy and Astrophysics. She is a member of the University Honors Program and currently works as a communications assistant for the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.

Meghan Flanagan (Events Assistant)

Meghan, originally from Houston, Texas, is a first-year studying Political Science and History at GW. She is currently serving as a US House of Representatives Intern, and is also involved with Phi Alpha Delta, the Pre-Law Fraternity.

EDITORIAL BOARD

Alexandra Kicior

Alexandra is a sophomore from West Orange, New Jersey, double-majoring in International Affairs and Geography. She is currently the Head Project Manager at the Friedlander Group, where she leads the Iran Congressional Gold Medal Project in communicating with House and Senate representatives and serving as a general resource for all other interns. She is also the co-chair of the Program Innovation Board for the LEAP Advisory Council at the Elliott School, and she recently joined Sigma Iota Rho, the International Affairs honor society at GW.

Ananya Murthy

Ananya is a senior from Pearland, Texas, majoring in International Affairs and Economics. She is currently serving as a Public Affairs Intern at the US Trustee Program in the Department of Justice. She is also logistics officer for GW Mock Trial. Her social sciences interests include law and economic development.

Benjamin Kane

Ben is a sophomore from Sharon, Massachusetts, double-majoring in Philosophy and Political Science. He currently serves as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the National Churchill Leadership Center, and his piece “Due Process on the Nuremberg Trials” was published in the GW Undergraduate Review in the Spring of 2021. His research interests include political and legal theory, as well as religious philosophy.

Chris Luhring

Chris is a junior from Indianapolis, Indiana, majoring in Political science with a concentration in Public Policy and Economics. He has done research on the correlation between the decline of low-skill manufacturing and national mental health conditions. He is also a former legal intern at the Madison County prosecutor’s office where he assisted in about six major felony trials. He has also done political research for a congressional campaign and political action committees. He plans to pursue a joint masters in public policy and a law degree.

Daphne Ghazizadeh

Daphne is a freshman from Orange County, California, double-majoring in Criminal Justice and International Affairs. In the past, she has served as a research assistant in the UCI Astrophysics Department studying AGNs and mergers. Currently, she is a campaign intern for Tanaka for Congress.

Elisabeth Reznikov

Elisabeth is a freshman from Vienna, Virginia, double-majoring in International Affairs and Russian with a minor in Spanish. She is currently volunteering as a research assistant for United Help Ukraine, a non-profit organization working to help those affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including refugees, civilians on the ground, and military personnel. In addition, she is currently working on a research project regarding the ethics of medical practices that were implemented in Germany under the Nazi party.

Janavi Kanagasundaram

Janavi is a senior from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, majoring in International Affairs and Economics with a concentration in the Middle East. Previously, she worked as a research assistant on a project detailing South Asian American women writers and filmmakers and as an economics tutor at Academic Commons. She is also a member of the PreLaw Student Association and the University Honors Program.

Michael Farina

Michael is a senior from Westchester County, New York, with a major in Biology and minor in STEM Teaching. He is currently taking a research course through the biology department in which he and his classmates are collaborating with professor Arnaud Martin to determine how CRISPR gene knockouts affect butterfly patterns. He is also an EMT on EMERG and for the GW MFA and a patient care tech at Medstar Urgent Care. He hopes to attend physician assistant school next year and aims to be a PA.

Stephen Dillon-Streisel

Stephen is a sophomore from Secaucus, New Jersey, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Public Health. He is currently a research intern at the GW Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Institute and a Research Assistant at the GW Addiction Sciences lab. Stephen is also the Clinical Assistant for the Meltzer Community Health Center while working as a biology tutor. He hopes to further his career in Psychology by attending a Clinical Ph.D. program in the future and working as a certified clinical psychologist.

GW SCOPE

Ben Chapman

Ben is a fall 2021 graduate from Colchester, Connecticut who majored in Political Science and minored in Criminal Justice. Previously, he has interned on Capitol Hill for two members of the House of Representatives. He enjoys writing about policy and politics, particularly as it relates to social issues. In the future he hopes to work in the area of NGOs and nonprofits aimed towards criminal justice reform.

Emily Mosley

Emily Mosley is a senior from Waco, Texas, majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Security Policy. She is also a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal and the George H.W. Point of Light Award for her political activism and philanthropy. Ms. Mosley enjoys writing about social justice topics, world news, and women’s studies. When she isn’t studying or writing, you can find her at a local coffee shop or visiting an art museum. Post graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in law or journalism.
