Happy Spring! As of this writing, it appears that Spring is actually here — hopefully Mother Nature won’t throw another curve ball at us this year. The Town Board has approved the repair/replacement of the Highway Garage roof — we anticipate the bid opening in June with work to be completed over the summer. This will be the first step in major maintenance to our existing facilities. The trailer that houses the existing Town Hall is nearly at the end of its useful life and will require some serious repair/renovation if we are to stay here. The costs to stay in our existing facility are nearing the costs of a new Town Hall. We have again been working with several groups of engineering students from RIT to pursue design options for a Town Hall at a different location — both the Legion property and at Prouty Park. These efforts allow us to establish some current construction cost estimates and also to review potential design alternatives. We are looking at a very basic facility to keep the costs at a minimum. Please let me know (send me an e-mail or letter) or attend a Town Board meeting if you have any thoughts on the issue. We will provide a more detailed update in the next edition of the Community Focus. Ontario County is beginning to work on its plan based on the Governor’s newly enacted Shared Services Initiative. I will be on the panel working with the County Administrator, Town Supervisors, School District Superintendents and others. The County has a long history of shared services that dates back to 1959, so we are well positioned to respond to this initiative. We are also continuing our efforts on the Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) and how it impacts the individual municipalities across the County — for West Bloomfield that means we will begin to see some funding from the SWMP and be able to make some improvements to our transfer facility and possibly provide some additional services to our residents. We are always looking for residents to assist us (please see the announcement elsewhere in this edition) on our Boards and also for potential committees. We currently have openings on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board--the best way to get involved is to submit your name and interests. I will be happy to meet with you and discuss what the roles are and how you can help.
