FROM WAGS TO WEDDINGS, POWERED BY LOVE

THE ARBOR LOFT & BRUNO'S BLESSINGS

Agathi Georgiou-Graham is a fan of love. As co-owner of Arbor Venues, she makes it her business to create memories for couples on one of the most important days of their lives. Athi – as her friends and family call her – knows firsthand the power of such love.

Her partner in business also happens to be her partner in life. Athi and Zach Graham fell in love in 2016, just as Athi was about to open her first venue, The Arbor Loft. In 2018, they were the first couple to get married at Arbor at the Port, their second venue. Two years later, they had their daughter, and the following year, they found their third venue, Arbor Midtown, which opened in 2023.

Over the past nine years, Arbor Venues has topped the charts for wedding venues in the Finger Lakes Region. This summer, Athi and Zach celebrate the opening of their new location, The Arbor Loft (20 North Union Street in Rochester), yards away from its first home on Pitkin Street.

One could say that perhaps Athi is busy enough leading the wedding and event planning industry in Rochester, but she doesn’t stop there. Athi had another love of her life that she pays tribute to every day – her “soul dog,” Bruno. After he passed in 2020, Athi created Bruno’s Blessings, a fund that helps people in Rochester pay their senior dogs’ veterinary bills.

From wags to weddings, through love and an abundance of hard work, Athi creates lasting memories for the Rochester community. What’s more, she does it with the highest standards of professionalism and care and with a heart full of kindness for people and animals.

THE ARBOR LOFT

New Location, Same Luxury Experience

Officially opening this June, The Arbor Loft 2.0 is “very European chic,” Athi says. With exposed brick and beams, Venetian plaster, Arbor Venues’ signature white walls and archways, and of course, grand chandeliers, the European elegance is in the details. A luxurious venue with over 15,000 square feet, The Arbor Loft hosts up to 200 guests seated or 250 cocktail style.

The European influence is personal to Athi, as her father, one of her favorite people, is from Cyprus. Growing up, Athi found comfort in her structured upbringing. From an early age, she and her two sisters had a strong bond with their parents and were surrounded by Greek culture.

Simple. Beautiful. Historic. Relaxing. These words describe the ethos of Cyprus and apply to The Arbor Loft 2.0. The space is reminiscent of the Greek islands or of an Italian vineyard. It provides hints of a destination wedding while firmly standing in Rochester. Some say Athi and Zach make dreams come true, and such dreamers eagerly await their day in the new space.

In typical Athi style, there is an element of flair that makes The Arbor Loft eclectic and fun. Did someone say Barbie-inspired bathroom? Yes, please! How about a Greek Gods bathroom, a rainbow-inspired bridal suite, or a Pac-Man groom suite? Have no fear – The Arbor Loft has it.

A personal favorite of Athi’s will be the downstairs bathroom. She designed a beautiful wallpaper that depicts her love story with Zach, featuring their daughter, Bruno, donuts (yes, donuts play a major role in their journey together), and trees that evoke European landscapes.

Getting The Arbor Loft ready for Rochester’s lovers has been an intense year-long process, and Athi acknowledges that it has been a team effort.

She credits Zach for his unyielding belief in her, saying, “His strength inspires me. His love inspires me. His devotion to me inspires me. He helps build me up.”

In addition to Zach’s partnership, Athi has worked closely with her friend and “one of the kindest souls you’ll ever meet,” Stacy K., owner of Stacy K Floral, who has been intimately involved in the design process. Athi’s father has also helped throughout. It comes as no surprise that her team is made up of the people she loves most to create space for those in love. That is Athi’s brand.

HERE’S TO SOME SUMMER FUN!

There’s something about Rochester in late spring and summer that feels electric. The trees are bursting with green, the lilacs perfume the air, the markets are overflowing with fresh finds — and suddenly every weekend is packed with sunshine, music, and adventure.

This season kicked off on a high note with the Elevate Women’s Business Summit at Arbor Midtown. Huge shoutout to our front cover star, Athi, for creating such a beautiful and inspiring space. Spending the day surrounded by incredible women-led businesses left me energized, motivated, and even more in love with our community. Rochester truly shines when it comes to heart, talent, and creativity.

Sitting down with my kids to create our annual Summer Bucket List is one of my favorite traditions at the start of the season. It’s a mix of old and new: camping trips, the Lilac Festival, backyard movie nights, and this year, finally checking out the Corn Hill Arts Festival.

Summer also means plenty of baseball and softball for our family. You’ll find me most nights at the fields — cheering from the sidelines, soaking in the golden light, and loving the simple joy of summer sports.

Food and drinks are always part of the fun too. I’m always on the hunt for a great brunch spot and a refreshing Moscow Mule or iced latte. If you haven’t tried the dalgona latte at Winter Swan yet, trust me — it’s a gamechanger. Quynh, you’re a genius.

I’m also loving more sustainable shopping — treasure hunting at favorites like Second Look, where Sarah always has the best finds, and Panache Vintage & Finer Consignment, where Natalie proves time and again she’s a true style magician. Shopping secondhand is a fun way to freshen up your wardrobe while keeping it eco-friendly — and it feels even better knowing you’re supporting local businesses.

With our summer issue in hand, I’m in full backyard mode: planting flowers and herbs, stringing up lights, and getting ready for summer nights filled with campfires, laughter, and plenty of marshmallows. There’s nothing better than a warm evening under the twinkle lights with good company.

This summer, I’m leaning into all the moments — big, small, planned, and spontaneous. I hope you’ll do the same. Get outside. Try something new. Support the businesses that make our community shine. There’s no better time to fall in love with Rochester all over again.

INSIGHTS from the top

When it comes to planning a wedding, experience and perspective can make all the difference. Bridget Storer, seasoned event professional and NXT ICON member, has spent years helping couples bring their unique visions to life. Known for her thoughtful, relationshipfirst approach, Bridget believes that creating a meaningful event starts long before the big day.

Smart Planning, Beautiful Results

One of Bridget’s most important pieces of advice for couples trying to stay within budget is both practical and empowering: “Prioritize what matters most— whether that’s food, photos, or entertainment—and be flexible with the rest,” she says. She also encourages couples to consider alternative dates to make the most of their budgets. “Friday or Sunday weddings, or dates outside the traditional season, often offer significant savings without sacrificing style or experience.”

Vision First, Venue Second

When it comes to choosing a venue, Bridget suggests that couples start with a clear understanding of their vision. “Think about your dream atmosphere and your guest count first. Are you imagining an intimate garden

ceremony or a big, elegant celebration? Knowing your priorities makes it much easier to find a space that fits both the look and the logistics.”

The Overlooked Essential: Timing

Bridget also stresses the importance of building extra time into the wedding day schedule. “People often forget to include buffer time—between hair and makeup, before photos, or between reception events,” she explains. “A little breathing room helps the entire day feel more relaxed and enjoyable for everyone.”

A Career Rooted in Community and Care

Bridget’s work is grounded in a deep commitment to creating seamless, joyful celebrations. Her background includes more than a decade of experience in event planning, always with a focus on thoughtful details and personalized service. Whether helping couples map out timelines or offering creative solutions to stretch their budgets, Bridget’s goal is the same: to make every celebration feel effortless, memorable, and uniquely meaningful.

Her passion for events mirrors the spirit of The NXT Level Collective—a network of women shaping the future of business, creativity, and leadership across Upstate New York. Bridget’s dedication is a reminder that behind every unforgettable event is someone who truly cares about the experience being created.

Stay tuned for more NXT ICON features as we continue to spotlight the women redefining excellence throughout the Rochester region and beyond. info@thenxtlevelcollective.com www.thenxtlevelcollective.com

Q&A with Muralist Laura Wolanin

Rochester-based artist Laura Wolanin is known for her whimsical, colorful murals that infuse joy into every wall they touch. With a background rooted in fine arts and a heart full of curiosity, Laura’s work blends storytelling with a touch of magic—whether she’s painting a private residence or a local brewery.

Fueling the Process

What do you listen to while working— music, silence, something else?

Never ever silence—always something playing! I’m a huge podcast listener while I paint. Some of my favorites are Stuff You Should Know, This American Life, 10% Happier, Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations, TED Radio Hour, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Wiser Than Me, Snap Judgment, Hidden Brain, and The Grey Area.

Do you have a favorite snack that keeps you going while you’re painting all day?

If I’m not working at home, I always start my day with an almond milk latte from a local café. It fuels the high-energy creativity I aim for.

Early bird painter or late-night artist? Definitely early. Once 5pm hits, I mentally and physically clock out.

creative rhythms

If you could live inside one of your murals for a day, which one would you choose?

Definitely my Mango Peach Beach mural at Genesee Brewery. It doesn’t get better than lounging on a hot beach by the ocean in a comfy chair with a delicious beverage!

with Beers

"I love teaming up with awesome local businesses like @swiftwaterbeer— especially when it helps the pups in rescues and shelters. Adopt, don’t shop!”

What’s the most unusual place you’ve ever found inspiration?

I’m not sure if it’s unusual, but my boyfriend and I spend a lot of time at The Little Café. I always leave feeling inspired—the nightly music and rotating art displays are incredible. I absolutely love it there!

Let’s say you can only use one color for the rest of your life—what would it be and why?

Yellow, for sure! There are so many beautiful shades, and they all bring me joy. Praise the sun!

If you could paint any famous landmark in the world, what would it be—and how would you make it your own?

Anything rooted in nature! I love painting mountains, trees, and flowers, and I’d amplify the magic with wild colors, iridescent paints, and glitter.

If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be?

Rochester has such an amazing community of creatives, but I’d say Scar Markham of Flour Pail Kids. Their work is wacky and fun—I love it!

Beyond the Brush

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m in a post-hardcore/emo band called Mostly Ghosts. It’s my outlet for channeling frustration with the state of

the world. I’m usually light and cheerful, but sometimes you just need to scream— and this is the perfect place to do that. Give us a listen!

If you could time travel and give a piece of advice to your younger artist self, what would it be?

Freelance life is tough, and there were plenty of times I took gigs out of financial necessity. I don’t regret it, but I’d tell younger me to start saying no sooner—and to recognize her worth earlier.

local color

What’s the most underrated local spot in Rochester that people should visit for a burst of creativity?

Rochester Greenovation! It’s an incredible resource for décor, building materials, art supplies, and thrifted goods. I try to avoid buying new whenever possible, and this place is a goldmine.

Rochester’s street art scene is growing—what excites you most about the local art community right now?

While I’m not officially part of the street art scene yet—my murals tend to be smaller, interior pieces in private spaces—I’ve been deeply inspired by the energy in our city. I’d love to find more ways to be part of that movement and contribute to the public art scene in Rochester.

pg. 24 The Secret Life of Weeds: @rewildingherstory and @usedtobevegan find beauty in what most people overlook

“Dandelions are so misunderstood,” Jacalyn says, crouching beside a patch of yellow blooms. “What some consider a weed, we see as a powerful example of resilience and nourishment.”

Together, Jacalyn and Ellie are changing the way the community views the natural world. Through plant walks, DIY herbal remedies, and passionate education, the two friends and collaborators invite others to slow down, take a closer look, and rediscover the wild gifts growing underfoot.

“Plants aren’t there just for our taking, we can also just look, learn, and appreciate them!”
-Jacalyn

A Friendship Rooted in Curiosity Jacalyn and Ellie met in 2018 while working at the Good Food Collective, a local organization focused on creating a more connected food system. Their shared love of nature quickly turned into a deep curiosity about the plants around them—not just their beauty, but their purpose.

“Our journey really started with a love for being outdoors,” Jacalyn says. “Over time, that evolved into wanting to understand the plants around us—how they heal, how they nourish.”

For Ellie, the path was shaped by a broader interest in holistic health. “Though I’m no longer vegan, that lifestyle introduced me to practices like yoga and Ayurvedic medicine. Herbalism was a natural next step—and already having a passion for the natural world gave me a solid foundation to start studying plants as healers.”

Over time, their explorations turned into a shared mission: to help others reconnect with nature, one plant at a time.

The Power of “Weeds”

One of their favorite plants to teach about is the dandelion, as it’s edible from flower to root and packed with nutrients. “Dandelion is a profoundly healing plant,” says Ellie. “Its leaves stimulate digestion and act as a gentle diuretic. The root supports liver function and is rich in inulin, which promotes gut health and helps balance blood sugar. Even the latex in the stems can be applied topically to treat warts.”

Other often-overlooked plants include nettles (a springtime favorite packed with vitamins A, C, and K), garlic mustard (perfect for a peppery pesto), and violets, which Jacalyn harvests from her backyard for tea.

But before harvesting, Ellie urges caution. “Personal responsibility is huge when it comes to wild edibles,” she explains. “There are lots of lookalikes in the natural world. Take your time. Watch a plant grow through a full season. Learn to identify it with confidence.”

Jacalyn agrees. “Dandelions are easy to find, but make sure you’re harvesting from land that hasn’t been treated with herbicides. A good rule: if the area hasn’t been sprayed in at least three years, it’s generally safe.”

Summer Remedies Straight

From the Garden

As summer rolls in, Jacalyn and Ellie love sharing simple herbal recipes that make the most of the season’s bounty. “My go-to is dandelion flower tea,” says Jacalyn.

“It’s easy, nourishing, and delicious. But dandelions are so versatile—you can pickle them, sauté them, add them to salads, or include them in baked goods.”

Ellie’s current favorites include motherwort, white pine, mugwort, and of course, nettles. And for common summer ailments, she swears by one humble plant: plantain. “Plantain leaf is an amazing first-aid remedy,” she says. “It’s great for sunburn, bug bites, stings, scrapes, even dehydration. It’s demulcent, antiinflammatory, and full of mucilage that helps draw out toxins. I always keep a plantain salve in my bag, and it’s one of my favorite things to teach kids.”

More Than Orthodontics: A Commitment to Mental Health

Beyond providing exceptional orthodontic care, Wiktorski Orthodontics is committed to fostering confidence and well-being in their guests. “Seeing the change in confidence from start to finish makes you realize how large of an impact we can play in someone’s life,” Dr. Cody says. His favorite part of the job? The freedom to constantly innovate and improve systems, always seeking to refine guests’ experiences. His goal is to create a lifestyle brand where exceptional orthodontics is just part of their overall reputation.

Invisalign Misconceptions

Debunked at Wiktorski Orthodontics:

For years, skepticism rose about the capabilities of Invisalign, with many believing certain cases were simply beyond its reach. However, advancements in technology and technique have shattered these misconceptions. Today, there isn’t a case that can’t be treated with Invisalign—only doctors who may not feel comfortable treating complex cases with it.

– “ –

We are here not only to perfect smiles, but to create lasting impacts by building a healthier, more connected community that understands ‘It Takes a Village’ to break the stigma associated with mental illness. – ” –

Dr. Cody says, “We are not merely in the orthodontic business serving people—we are in the people business, serving orthodontics.” As a certified trainer with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Dr. Cody offers free Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training to the community. Through Hope Through Smiles, a unique program at Wiktorski Orthodontics, the practice pledges to sponsor YMHFA training for one individual in the community for every new patient who begins treatment.

If you’re interested in becoming trained and making a difference, they encourage you to reach out to their office to learn more.

Wiktorski Orthodontics combines exceptional care with a deep commitment to making a difference in the community. If you’re looking for an Invisalign experience that redefines the standard, visit Wiktorski Orthodontics and discover the difference for yourself.

Unfortunately, this has led to misinformation, making some patients believe Invisalign isn’t an option for them. The truth is, it’s not about whether Invisalign can do it—it’s about finding the right provider who has the experience and confidence to make it happen. Invisalign is the perfect choice for all ages, especially those in the 7-10 year old range when we can really help prevent them from becoming complex cases as teenagers.

Beautiful Flooring for Beautiful Moments.

01.

Replace rolls of paper towels with one Swedish Discloth.

A clever alternative to paper towels, made of cotton and cellulose. These can be washed and reused hundreds of times, offering both environmental and financial savings.

Marilla, founder of Marilla’s Mindful Supplies, is on a mission to help households rethink how they consume.

“For me and my team, we do our best to actively test out and use plastic-free products. This way we can answer all your questions and provide hands-on advice to customize a swap to fit your lifestyle! Of course, there are some areas of life where plastic is hard to avoid, but we make it easier to find swaps you love and kiss plastic kitchen products goodbye!”

02. Skip the plastic bottle and say hello to your new favorite: the Dish Soap Block.

A solid bar that suds up effortlessly, cuts through grease, and lasts twice as long as traditional liquid soap. It’s vegan, plastic-free, and a must-have for efficient, waste-free cleaning.

03. Swap plastic wrap for Stretchy Silicone Covers.

Ditch the plastic wrap for these stretchy, dishwasher-safe lids. They fit over bowls, cups, and even cut produce, keeping food fresh without the waste.

Over at Sustainable Soul Rochester, owner Allison emphasizes the importance of starting where you are.

“Kitchens are where habits easily form – and even small swaps can make a huge difference. The goal is to make sustainable living feel like something you want to do, not something you have to do. Everything we offer is rooted in progress, not perfection.”

IN TH E K I T N

Adding to the local eco-friendly scene, What's Good in Fairport offers thoughtfully curated, sustainable products.

Founder Jennifer Young shares, “You don’t need to be a green expert immediately to buy green products—or ever. I really, really believe that if all of us are doing a little here and there, it’s better than none of us doing anything. And I think it becomes a lifestyle; you start with one thing, and then you move on to the next.”

04.

Brush smarter: swap the head, not the whole tool.

05.

This wooden scrub brush lets you replace just the head when it wears out—cutting waste without cutting corners. A simple, satisfying upgrade to your cleaning routine.

Say goodbye to single-use plastic baggies and hello to

Reusable Silicone Storage Bags.

These sturdy, easy-to-clean alternatives are ideal for snacks, leftovers, and even freezer storage— saving you money and cutting down on waste.

06.

Skip the plastic— upcycle a jar for your hand soap

Breathe new life into old jars by converting them into foaming soap dispensers. Just add foam tablets and skip the single-use plastic for good-looking, low-waste handwashing.

Sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It’s about being intentional—choosing products that work for you, your home, and the planet. From reducing landfill waste to protecting your own health, these small changes create ripples that add up. And it all starts right in your kitchen.

The Transformation of an

Old Tool Chest

into a Traveling Shop

If you venture out to a local craft fair this summer, you might spot a different sort of booth rolling in. With mint green paint and vibrant flowers adorning the sides, it’s hard to miss Paige’s Bookshop. Since its beginnings in summer 2024, this mobile used bookshop has been rolling its way into readers’ hearts. From its bones as an old tool chest, Paige Hauser has been transforming it into a mini haven for local readers, both eye-catching and sustainable.

“Paige's... yes, like a book,” reads her tagline, harkening back to some rather ‘innovative’ childhood teasing. Paige, who works in immigration law, says the idea for a book trailer “Just came to [her] one day” after a rough summer dealing with her mental health and postpartum depression. While scrolling Pinterest one day, she saw someone had converted a horse trailer into a walk-in bookshop, and she thought to herself, “I can do that.”

Though a horse trailer proved too expensive, she stumbled upon an old tool trailer online that would more than fit the bill, and she even went so far as to create a pitch for her husband in the same vein as the show Shark Tank. It didn’t take long for him to agree, and Paige’s Bookshop was in the works and a creative outlet was born, with a personal touch.

“The book trailer has been more than just a fun project, but a way to get a piece of myself back during the thick of motherhood,” Paige says. “I suffered from postpartum depression (PPD) after the birth of both of my kids. I felt like I lost so much about myself that made me ‘me,’ like reading.” As with flamingos, whose mothers lose their pink while raising their young due to the demands of care, she says this project has helped her ‘get her pink back’ while she recovers and balances working full-time with motherhood. “I think PPD is an important topic that needs to be discussed more. I hope that there is another mom out there who sees this and realizes they are not alone in this season.”

As for the physical trailer itself, the renovation process was a labor of love and a way to make it her own. It needed a lot of TLC — the biggest hurdle was sanding, painting, and reworking the lights to make it roadworthy. Her husband, Sam, handled much of the hands-on work alongside her, while their oldest took on the crucial role of handing him tools. Paige, who has two kids, says the trailer project became a true family affair. The logo design came from her brother, who, she says, “nailed it on the first try” — even if he did have to add an extra flower (but we won’t tell him that).
