SHRIMP POTATO PATTIES

Makes about 2 dozen

6 medium-size red potatoes, peeled and quartered

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

1 cup finely chopped yellow onions

1/4 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup seeded and chopped red bell peppers

1/2 cup seeded and chopped green bell peppers

1/2 cup seeded and chopped yellow bell peppers

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground

black pepper

1/4 teaspoon Tabasco brand pepper sauce

2 pounds medium-size shrimp, peeled, deveined and coarsely ground in a food processor

2 large eggs, well beaten

1/4 cup chopped freshly parsley leaves

1/2 cup peanut oil

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1. In a large saucepan, boil the potatoes in lightly salted water to cover until fork tender. Remove from the heat and drain. Transfer them to a large mixing bowl and mash with a fork. Let cool.

2. Melt the butter over medium heat in a medium-size skillet. Add the onions, celery, bell peppers, salt, cayenne, black pepper, and Tabasco, and cook, stirring, until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the shrimp and cook, stirring until they turn pink, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for about 5 minutes.

3. Combine the shrimp mixture with the potato mixture. Add the eggs and parsley and mix well. Let cool for 10 minutes.

4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

5. Form the shrimp mixture into patties, using 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the mixture, depending on what size you desire, and pat lightly with the flour. Cook two to three at a time in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

AVON PARENTS AND TAXPAYERS TAKE NOTICE

e Avon Central School District Board of Education is holding its annual Budget and School Board Election from 1pm to 9pm on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, at the Middle School Library. I encourage you to accept your responsibility as a member of our community and take the time to vote. Freedom is not free, and many have paid a heavy price so that we might live in this wonderful community. Now it’s our turn to pay a small price by taking the time to go to the school and approve a budget and elect leadership that you believe will continue Avon’s tradition as the home of a public school that is the pride of the community.

Paid for by Michael Garrett

KIM MCDOWELL FOR AVON TOWN CLERK VOTE

at the Republican Caucus June 4th Avon Town Hall • 6:30-8:00pm

Paid for by Kim McDowell

My name is Mike Garrett, and I am a candidate for the Avon Central School District Board of Education.

In May 2006, my wife Jane and I moved from Geneseo to Avon. My educational and career backgrounds were in civil and structural engineering; and in 2020, after fi y years of practice, I retired from engineering and construction and turned my attention to the education of future generations.

I have a dream that the day will come when our community’s input and ideas are solicited and valued by the School Board; a day when the school’s leadership is active in our community and supportive of its values. In my dream, our school’s teachers are valued, and their wisdom and ideas are actively solicited and genuinely considered, and there is a long list of teachers waiting to join the ranks of the teaching staff because of our school’s reputation as a place where leadership is trustworthy, and both teachers and students grow and thrive. My dream is of a day when each student graduates ready to begin a fulfilling and productive life of service to their family and our community.

I believe:

• People living and/or working near each other become a community when they trust each other and accept responsibility for each other’s well-being.

• Each person in a community is unique, and each person has a purpose and value.

• Each person has an inalienable right to strive to live out their unique purpose and develop their gi s to the best of their ability, as well as an obligation to use their gi s in ways that ensure the ongoing health and well-being of their family and our community.

• e purpose of public education is to provide the next generation with the knowledge, training and values necessary to ensure the ongoing health and well-being of their family and the community.

I also believe:

• For our school to be the best that it can be, the citizens of the community must be meaningfully involved, and this cannot happen unless the community is well-informed.

• Posting disjointed information at various locations on a poorly organized internet website does not constitute communication or demonstrate transparency with the community.

• When a school board says it is interested in your ideas and questions, then it tells you that you have three minutes to speak and your questions will not be answered for two weeks, if at all, it is being neither inviting nor transparent. • e role of a school board is to act as agent for the community, following the community’s vision and direction, and keeping the community well-informed so that its decisions and direction are wise.

• When a school’s administration solicits input from “stakeholders,” and then proceeds to make decisions and take actions that are contrary to the input it received, the “stakeholders” conclude that their time has been wasted, and their wisdom and experience are not valued; they become discouraged and disheartened. It is the role of administrators to listen, take steps to remove obstacles, and provide, with all due haste, needs identified by teachers that contribute to the success of their students. e role of administrators is to give service, not orders.

• When it takes five months to repair the elementary school playground swings, four weeks to replace the light bulbs in the elementary school boys’ bathroom, or six months to replace the torn window screen in a classroom, administration has failed the students, and the school board is responsible.

• When $600 worth of classroom supplies are requested, and the teacher is told they can’t be provided because there isn’t enough money, administration has failed both the teacher and the students, and the school board is responsible.

Finally, I believe in the Avon community. For my nineteen years here, this community has shown itself time and again to be kind, compassionate and deeply in love with its children. I believe you and I share the belief that the quality of our children’s lives and the future of our community will be determined by the education our children receive while attending our school. With your vote on May 20th, I am hoping you will give me the opportunity to serve our children and you, in collaboration with the administration and other members of the Board, doing all I can to help build that amazing future.

GO GREEN WITH YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE

Walk, run or ride to the gym. Many people get the bulk, if not the entirety, of their exercise at a gym. For those who live outside of major cities, that likely involves driving to and from a gym before and after workouts. Instead of driving, consider walking, running or riding to the gym. Each option provides great cardiovascular exercise that can reduce or replace the time people spend on treadmills or elliptical machines. And cutting back on driving reduces fuel consumption and auto emissions, greatly benefitting the planet.

Olive Oil Can Serve As a Remedy For Several Ailments

DEAR DR.ROACH: I am a 76-year-old male in good health. I go to the gym three days a week, eat well, and fast one day a week. I have been reading about taking a tablespoon of olive oil at night as a remedy for all kinds of things such as digestion issues and arthritis. I tried it, and I swear that the first day after ingesting it, I felt less pain in the arthritis in my hands and feet.

Is there any evidence that this practice is helpful? Also, does it matter what kind or brand of olive oil one uses? I bought special olive oil that is polyphenol-rich; it is lighter and more tasty than the extra-virgin oil I normally buy at the food market. What’s your take on this? -- L.A.

Q. A.

ANSWER: Although I don’t think olive oil is a cure for all ailments, there are certainly health benefits when using olive oil compared to most oils. The flavor and amount of polyphenol (an anti-inflammatory compound found in olive oil) will vary from one brand to another. These anti-inflammatory compounds can help symptoms of arthritis in some people.

Personally, I recommend extra-virgin olive oil (made from the initial squeezing of olives without chemical and heat treatment), which has the highest amount of the nutrients you want. But my advice is to choose based on the flavor you like and how much you want to spend rather than the polyphenol content. And of course, too much of anything, including olive oil, isn’t good for you, but a tablespoon is fine.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I came down with a headache, but nothing showed up after a year of tests, including a CT scan, MRIs, and a spinal tap. Then I was told that I had a nummular headache, which I understand is rare. I have a sore spot in the back of my head and a feeling in my head that I just can’t explain. I don’t know how I made it through a year until I got on meds.

I am now taking 25 mg of lamotrigine a day. I’m at the point where I’ll have a couple good days, then it comes back. Can this be cured? Is the medication that I’m taking OK, or is there something better? -- K.S.

Q. A.

ANSWER: A nummular headache (the name comes from the Latin word for coin as the sore spot is often the size and shape of a coin) is very uncommon, and I’ve never treated a case. I would defer treatment to a neurologist with expertise in headaches.

Gabapentin is a common treatment, but lamotrigine is also used. The best treatment is the one that works best for you.Although sometimes the condition will simply go away, it often doesn’t, requiring chronic medication to keep symptoms under control.

I will note that you are on a tiny dose of lamotrigine. It needs to be started at a small dose, but when used for seizures, the usual dose is 400-600 mg per day (which takes several weeks to reach, titrating slowly). If it’s working for you but not well enough, you might do better with a higher dose.

If a higher dose doesn’t work, there are other medications to try such as antidepressants like amitriptyline and other seizure medications like carbamazepine. One other option to ask your neurologist about is botulinum toxin (Botox), which relieves pain by more than half in about two-thirds of patients.

Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. © 2025 King Features Synd., Inc. All Rights Reserved

FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT AUTISM

Parents of twins should know that an autism diagnosis in one twin does not necessarily mean the other child also will be diagnosed with autism. Autism Speaks indicates that, among identical twins, if one child has autism, the other will be affected about 36 to 95 percent of the time. Among non-identical twins, if one child has autism, the other will be affected about 31 percent of the time.

STATISTICS ABOUT MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

DID YOU KNOW?

Overexposure to ultraviolet, or UV, radiation from the sun has been linked to a host of major health problems. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, unprotected exposure to UV radiation is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer, which the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation notes is responsible for one in every three cancers diagnosed across the globe each year.OverexposuretoUVradiation can also contribute to premature aging and other skin damage. When the skin is overexposed to UV radiation, actinic keratoses may develop on areas of the body that were exposed to the sun, including the face, hands and forearms. Actinic keratoses have a raised, reddish appearance and may be rough in texture. Vision problemsmayalsoariseasaresult of overexposure to UV radiation. The EPA notes that research has indicated that exposure to UV radiation increases a person’s risk for developing certain types of cataracts, a medical condition in which the lens of the eye grows increasingly opaque. Overexposure to UV radiation may also contribute to degeneration of the macula, the region of the retina with the greatest visual acuity. UV-protective eyeglasses, contact lenses and sunglasses can protect people from the type of eye damage that arises from overexposure to UV radiation. The body’s immune system may also be adversely affected by overexposure to UV radiation, making a person more vulnerable toinfectionsandevencancer.

SENIOR NEWS LINE

Senior discounts are even more important now

The price increases we might see because of the expected tariffs make this a good time to get used to hunting for senior discounts on all the goods and services we need and want.

As usual, the definition of “senior” varies from store to store and restaurant to restaurant. One might stick to the age 65, when we used to start collecting Social Security, and others might look at age 50, when AARP starts identifying us as potential subscribers -- or anywhere in between.

Despite the occasional confusion about age, there are discounts to be had.

Shop your local stores first. They’re more likely to offer senior discounts because they want your business, and your repeat business.

Check Goodwill and The Salvation Army stores for discount days. Ask your local grocery stores about senior discount days. You might need a loyalty card, but even those can often get you rewards cash. Don’t forget pharmacies, eyeglass stores, gyms, clothing stores, travel agencies, movie theaters, insurance agents, auto repair locations -- anywhere you spend money. They’re not likely to offer you any discount unless you ask for it. But they do want your business, and it’s to their benefit to give you a discount.

Scroll through the discount area of the AARP website and see if a membership makes sense for you. (I get $20 off an annual Walmart+ plan, which pays for my AARP membership.)

Search for discounts online by looking for “senior discounts 2025” and your area. Then call in advance to verify that a certain discount is available.

Don’t be shy about asking. In fact, before you go to any restaurant or store, make it a rule to call and inquire, and to verify the age they consider senior. After all, it’s your money, and every dollar discounted is a dollar you get to keep.komando.com to sign up. You can also catch her on the radio or her podcast.

Cats are stealth and lovable but somewhat unpredictable. Ancient Egyptians revered cats for their companionship and ability to keep dangerous creatures such as poisonous snakes, rats and scorpions at bay. The Egyptians were among the first peoples to domesticate cats, and now thousands upon thousands of people share their homes with feline companions.

Respecting your neighbors

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Can you settle a dispute between me and my neighbor? Bob doesn’t want my dog peeing or pooping on his lawn. I told him that my dog is just helping fertilize his grass, and he should be grateful for the free nutrients. Yesterday, as I was hanging out on my back patio, Bob threw a bag full of old dog poop over the fence; it broke when it landed and scattered all over the patio. I just don’t get it. We used to be friends, but now I’m not so sure. Who’s right in this situation? -- Doug H., via email

DEAR DOUG: Please tell me this is a prank letter, because otherwise I’m going to tear my hair out. One of the biggest commandments of dog ownership is Thou Shalt Not Annoy Thy Neighbors.

Allowing your dog to relieve himself on your neighbor’s lawn is more than just annoying; it opens you to a potential lawsuit. Clearly, it’s causing strife for your neighbor. Even if dog poop actually did fertilize lawns (it doesn’t), you and your dog are trespassing on private property. You’re also destroying your neighbor’s lawn. Dog pee burns grass and kills it, leaving awful bare spots surrounded by yellow, dying grass. Dog poop doesn’t disappear; it sits there and stinks, blocks airflow to the grass and kills it.

If you want to resolve this situation peacefully, go apologize to your neighbor, offer to clean up your dog’s mess and keep your dog away from his property. That means leashing your dog on walks, picking up his poop as soon as he goes and disposing of it at home or in a municipal waste bin. That’s your option. There is only one. PROBLEMS THAT CAN LEAD TO LAWN DAMAGE

Lack of sunlight: All plants need the proper ratio of sunlight to grow. Too much sunlight and plant blades can scorch. Too little sunlight and grass may turn brown and die. Although there are shade-tolerant varieties of grass, homeowners also can explore alternative landscapes. Work in a garden bed or create a design that utilizes gravel or mulch. Avoid aggressively pruning back trees to give the lawn more sunlight in that area, as this may just damage the trees.

There are many different types of carpeting, some of which are best suited to certain situations. For example, plush and saxony carpets are better in low-traffic areas. These carpets may show footprints and also vacuum tracks and dirt, but they’re higher on the comfort spectrum than other types of carpet. Berber, which is more flat and dense, helps mask stains and tracks. It is durable in high-traffic areas. Textured carpets like frieze are cut from fibers of different heights, so they mask stains and are also softer on the feet than berber.

SHADE-TOLERANT PLANTS COMPLETE LANDSCAPES

Plants need sunlight to thrive and grow, but some need less sunlight than others. People who find their landscapes are less supportive to sun-loving plants can choose from a variety of shade-tolerant plants, shrubs and trees.

Shade tolerance refers to a plant’s ability to withstand low levels of light. Certain plants have adapted this feature to survive in the wild. Plants that grow at the base of forest floors, for example, will get less sunlight than others outside of the tree canopy. Such adaptations enable a wide variety of foliage to grow even though they are not exposed to much sunlight. While sun-loving plants often have broad leaves and expend significant energy to capture sunlight for photosynthesis, shade-tolerant plants expend less energy and tend to be more efficient consumers of soil nutrients and sunlight.

Penn State Extension’s Plant and Pests division says the amount of shade a plant is growing under will directly affect the density of the foliage and the plant’s flowering and fruiting characteristics. Blending shade-tolerant plants into the landscape can be an effective use of space. Before choosing plants for an existing landscape, it’s important to assess the level of shade or sun the plants will receive.

Once homeowners understand which type of shade they are dealing with, they can then visit plant nurseries and select their plants. Most greenery comes with care instructions that include recommendations regarding the amount of shade/sunlight the plant will need to do well. If further assistance is needed, a knowledgeable employee can make suggestions based on landscape needs.

Shade-tolerant plants can make welcome additions to the landscape, offering greenery and color in the darker areas of a property.

ACCLIMATING TO A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD

For a number of people, this may be the year they relocate to a new home or apartment. The moving rate in the United States has remained steady since 2008, with roughly 12 percent of the population relocating each year according to reports from the U.S. Census Bureau. Movement to the suburbs continues to be high, and renters tend to move more frequently than others. People who move cite a new job or a job transfer as one of the primary motivators to relocate.

Acclimating to a new home and neighborhood after a move can be challenging. Even after boxes have been unpacked and items put away, some people still feel unsettled. It could be because one of the most important parts of being in a new house is feeling at home. That involves meeting neighbors, having friends over for dinner and knowing all of the local haunts that help solidify a homeowner as a true member of his or her new neighborhood. It can take time to establish feeings of belonging.

Confirm the driver and car before traveling. Before accepting a ride from a ridesharing service, passengers should confirm that the driver, vehicle and license plate number matches the notification that has been sent through the service’s app. Passengers also can track the progress of the car’s arrival. All details should be verified before stepping into the ridesharing vehicle.

STAY SAFE WHEN SELLING YOUR CAR

Millions of people across the globe sell their used vehicles each year, and many of those sales go smoothly. But selling to strangers carries some risk, and sellers must consider their safety when putting their vehicles up for sale.

Arrange to meet prospective buyers in public. While it can be inconvenient to drive to a public place each time a prospective buyer expresses interest in your vehicle, sacrificing convenience for security is worth the extra effort. Many people would not invite strangers to their homes under typical circumstances, so it makes no sense to do so when selling a vehicle. If possible, invite buyers to meet you in the parking lot of your office. Or if the car you’re selling is not the car you drive to work each day, then arrange to meet with buyers in a mall or grocery store parking lot.

Meet buyers with a buddy in tow. There’s safety in numbers, so bring a friend or family member along when meeting prospective buyers. Many buyers won’t pose a threat to sellers, but some may be criminals looking to steal a vehicle or cause harm to sellers who are complete strangers. Criminals are less likely to attack or take advantage of two or more people than one person. And should anything go wrong with a sale, having a witness around to back up your version of sale terms cannot hurt.

Let prospective buyers know you want to see some identification. When prospective buyers respond to your ad, let them know you will want to see some valid photo identification before you allow them to take the car for a test drive. Letting prospective buyers know this in advance of meeting them can prevent an awkward, potentially confrontational situation when you meet in person.

Don’t be afraid to turn away buyers who seem suspicious. While your goal might be to sell your vehicle as quickly as possible, don’t hesitate to turn away prospective buyers who make you feel uneasy. If they insist on seeing the vehicle, hang up the phone after informing them you intend to contact the authorities.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to Mental Health America, individuals’ reactions to the death of a loved one can elicit unique emotions linked to their relationship to the deceased. For example, MHA, a community-based nonprofit focused on promoting mental health, notes that a child’s death could inspire different feelings than the loss of an elderly spouse. When parents lose a child, that death may arouse a sense of injustice that can overwhelm the child’s parents as they contemplate lost potential, unfulfilled dreams and, in certain instances, the child’s suffering. Elderly individuals who lose a spouse may be overcome by feelings of loneliness. Recognition of these different reactions is important because it can help individuals and their support networks more effectively cope with their grief.

FROM DAYCARE RHYMES TO ROCK AND ROLL ROMANCE:

Mary Jane Thynne and the Story Behind Spidar Luv

“Expanding the children’s imagination actually expanded my own.”
MARY JANE THYNNE

A er decades of nurturing children, families, and even shelter animals, Fairport author Mary Jane ynne has finally seen her longnurtured dream take flight: publication of her debut novel, Spidar Luv. Released by Rochesterbased Spirited Muse Press, the novel captures the electric spirit of the 1960s, while exploring deeper themes of fame, love, and self-discovery.

Spidar Luv tells the story of e Spidars, a rock group who, at the height of their fame, encounter a hotel housekeeper hiding something. As their lives intertwine, so do the passions, ambitions, and vulnerabilities that come with living through an era defined by rebellion and evolving social norms. is science fiction “fan”tasy is a love story that defies conventional boundaries, echoing the radical spirit of the ‘60s while asking timeless questions about identity, humanity, faith, and the price of fame. e novel includes area connections, especially within Rochester, Henrietta, and Canandaigua, where the author has lived through the years.

A Novel 40 Years in the Making

e author reflects on her unconventional path to publication, explaining that a discouraging experience with her high school Honors English teacher led her to suppress her writing ambitions for years. In her mid-thirties, encouraged by an adult creative writing class, she returned to storytelling. Life, however, had other plans: raising children while her husband worked demanding jobs, then working various jobs herself, and surviving a devastating car accident meant writing had to take a back seat (though she describes her husband bringing a cassette tape a musician mailed, setting her lyrics to music when she was laid up in the hospital definitely gave her hope).

Spidar Luv has been a labor of love spanning nearly half a century. e author first began writing while raising her children and running a home daycare. “Expanding the children’s imagination actually expanded my own,” she recalls, saying a spark led her from rewriting nursery rhymes with her daycare kids (and creating an illustrated book, Father Goose and the Goslings, that Spirited Muse Press professionally published years later in 2007) to dra ing the earliest versions of her adult novels during nap times. To this day, she primarily prefers to initially handwrite while watching the birds and wildlife around the house or relaxing in a comfortable chair.

CANANDAIGUA LAKE
ROCHESTER’S MONROE HIGH SCHOOL

More than a Pseudonym, An Homage

In the 1980s, with records playing on the stereo while the children played, the author was inspired to write, but she faced criticism from her mother-in-law who hoped she wasn’t using her married name for fear of embarrassing the family. So, the author used her middle name and her maiden name when submitting short stories and song lyrics for publication. However, as Spidar Luv began to form, the author felt her own mother, “a very conservative Baptist, might not approve of [the author] soiling the family name,” so she couldn’t use her maiden name either.

She chose the name Mary Jane ynne, not only as a pseudonym but as a tribute to the author’s great-greatgrandmother, the daughter of Lord ynne, the third Earl of Bath. Disinherited for marrying a “commoner” and starting a new life in America with the love of her life, Mary Jane’s story of rebellion resonated deeply with the author. Choosing the name felt right, especially as her novels explore themes the author says would shock and disappoint her mother.

e author uses her real name now on short stories, but her novels are still unconventional, so she says their original copyright under Mary Jane ynne works well. Using a pseudonym, she reflects, has had its benefits—protecting her privacy, honoring her family legacy, and allowing her writing to remain a personal journey, shared only with those closest to her. Yet it has also come with challenges, including difficulty in building a public author platform.

Editing Spidar Luv: A Journey of Growth

“If love is the basis for all actions,” the author says, “then different forms of relationships deserve compassion, not judgment.”

e editing process for Spidar Luv was intense, the author says. e first twenty-five edits served as a crash course in writing techniques shaped by professional feedback. Revisiting the manuscript four decades later, she refined her story further, adding historically accurate references and end notes to root her fantasy in the realrhythmsofthe1960s. rough the revisions, one goal remained constant: to help readers understand that, while the ‘60s lifestyle was unconventional, it wasn’t all wrong.

At its heart, Spidar Luv is about love—not just romantic love, but love of family, love of music, and the love of telling stories that might otherwise go unheard. “If love is the basis for all actions,” the author says, “then different forms of relationships deserve compassion, not judgment.” e author hopes modern readers will connect, perhaps even more than readers would have in the ‘80s or ‘90s. True to her namesake’s legacy, Mary Jane ynne has proven that sometimes, the greatest rebellions are simply acts of the heart.

What’s Next for Mary Jane ynne

Now in her seventies, a mother of two, grandmother of four, and beloved neighborhood “Cheerios Lady” to local pups, ynne isn’t slowing down. She gives of her time and efforts through quilting for the Salvation Army and supports other local organizations.

Spidar Luv is available online through major distributors, but for those wanting to better support the local economy, the author and Spirited Muse Press encourage you to order directly through Lulu.com or by emailing the publisher at spiritedmusepress@yahoo.com. Locals can also find signed copies at the Fairport community garage sale days.

HAVE KIDS; WILL TRAVEL: MASTER VACATIONING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

Factor in “stretch your legs” opportunities. Children have limited attention spans and abilities to stay put. According to Brain Balance, a program for improving concentration, children between the ages of two and six have attention spans from four to 18 minutes. Since kids may not be able to sit still the entire time, build breaks into trips so they can get up, run around and expend some of their boundless energy.

Small Town Neighbors

The great part about living in a small town is everybody knows everyone, sees everything, and anything out of the ordinary gets plenty of folks on it right away. Thank you to the neighbors who knew our critters were out before we did, tracked us down, tracked them down, and helped get them home. You’re all good sports and GREAT neighbors.

Act of Kindness

I went to Goodwill with my staff and friend in Victor. I found a really nice big Vera Bradley bag. When I went to pay for it the lady in front of me had paid for it. That was very nice of her. It made my day! I think we need more people like her in the world!

Why do some people think it’s OK to mow grass onto the road? Not only is it dangerous for bicyclists and motorcycles, but there are stones that you may also hit people and cars with. Also, mowing all your grass on to others’ property after they have respectfully mowed grass on to their own side is rude.

Street Bikes

I get the weather is getting nice and the street bikes are starting to come out and you want to go fast, because, well, that’s what they are designed to do... but if you are going to speed, at least do it on the highways where the speed limit is 65, not on small side roads where the speed limit is 40 and people are walking their dogs, riding their bikes and taking their children for walks up the quiet road. No reason to be doing 80+ on these roads. And yes, when it does happen, the cops are called and a description is given. Just use some common sense and courtesy.

RELOCATING FOR A NEW JOB Inquireaboutrelocationassistance.TheAlliedsurveyfoundthat63percent of companies offered relocation packages. That’s a considerable perk, as moving can be expensive, especially for adults moving to different parts of the country. Asking about relocation expenses before being offered a job can be tricky, but some companies may mention such packages in their job ads or in their initial meetings with out-of-town candidates.

HOW WOMEN CAN KEEP THEIR CAREERS GOING FORWARD

Define career expectations. Defining career expectations early on can be beneficial in various ways. Such expectations can guide career choices and provide a road map that women can utilize to stay the professional course. This can help women make decisions about their careers when they come to forks in the road. For example, if a path to promotion seems blocked, women can examine their established career expectations to help them decide if it’s time to seek new employment. Defining career expectations also can help women effectively communicate with mentors about their goals, and mentors can then use that information when offering guidance. Expectations need not be concrete, and it’s likely they will change over time. But they can serve as an important foundation for anyone from young female professionals to experienced executives looking to make changes or determine the next step in their careers.

• Full-time individual needed for Delivery & Warehouse Duties

• Must have clean driver’s license and must be able to pass NYS DOT Physical
