Sometimes we just don’t want to face the truth, so we ignore it as long as we can. But eventually it becomes clear: We need to downsize.
Just the word can be painful as we contemplate moving to a smaller place and likely needing to get rid of many of our belongings. And then there are all the details -- what to keep, how to pack, lifting those heavy boxes.
The good news is that we don’t have to do it alone. The National Association of Senior & Specialty Move Managers (www.nasmm.org) can steer you toward move managers in your area, people who are trained in all aspects of moving seniors. In the Find A Move Manager section of their website, put in your ZIP code to find people in your area.
In my town I found three companies. All advertise stress-free moves and help with organizing, downsizing and relocating. It seems they can do it all -- starting with the decluttering that will be necessary for any move to a smaller place. They organize which belongings go to which family members, arrange for the sale of valuables or donations to charity and even take care of trash disposal. And that’s just the first step in the process.
What I like best is that they’ll do the packing. Then on moving day, they’ll be there supervising the movers, dealing with the utility companies to get the power turned on in the new place and, surprise, they’ll even unpack on the other end and haul away the empty boxes.
Moving to a smaller place might not be what we’d like to do, but when it becomes necessary, it’s good to know that we don’t have to do it alone. There are experts who know what to do and when. That should make the whole process much easier.
To better serve you, starting with our March 14, 2025 issue, our advertising deadlines are changing.

Hydrate Inside and Out. Use a humidifier to keep skin hydrated during the dry months and be sure to lather on moisturizer. Natural moisturizers like coconut oil and shea butter can act as protective barriers against harsh elements, sealing in moisture. In addition to hydrating on the outside, it is just as important to stay hydrated on the inside. By drinking water throughout the day, your skin can stay healthy and moisturized.
Avoid Toxins, Specifically Allergens and Irritants. Choose moisturizers and skin care products that don’t contain common irritants, and opt for mild cleansers and moisturizers that are specifically labeled for sensitive skin. Castor oil is another moisturizer alternative that is natural and can be used on both the face and body.
Layer Up. Lock in moisture and protect your skin from wind, rain and snow by wearing layers whenever you venture outside. The skin on your neck, face and hands is thinner than other areas of the body and therefore more sensitive to the effects of winter weather. Thermals, scarves and gloves can keep you warm and protect your skin from the cold, dry air.

By Keith Roach, M.D.
DEAR DR. ROACH: I’ve been diagnosed with silent celiac disease at the late age of 62, but I’ve probably had it for decades. (It may have led to my serious osteoporosis.) A biopsy revealed totally flattened villi.
I am gluten-free and will be getting celiac-antibody, nutrient and other regular lab work from now on. But my doctors stated that no further scopes are needed unless my blood work reveals a problem, or I get symptoms while on a gluten-free diet. But for asymptomatic people like me, there are no symptoms, and blood work doesn’t show whether the small intestine has physically healed. I tried to ask my doctor this follow-up question but never received an answer.
Should I get a second opinion? I hear from other patients that their doctors did schedule a follow-up scope one to two years after their diagnosis to check their physical healing. For senior patients who can tolerate a scope and have had major villi destruction, is a follow-up scope prudent or unnecessary? -- W.C.S.
ANSWER: Peoplewithunexpectedosteoporosisshouldbeconsidered for celiac disease testing. Celiac disease is a condition of damage to the small intestine due to gliadin sensitivity. Gliadin is a protein that is found in gluten, wheat and other cereals, and it is thought to directly damage the lining of the intestine. This causes flattening of the villi, which is the absorptive surface of the small intestine. The only treatment for celiac disease is strict avoidance of gluten in the diet.
The inability to absorb nutrients can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea and weight loss, but symptoms can also be very subtle. Some people have mild abdominal discomfort after eating, but the symptoms usually disappear once they’re on a gluten-free diet.
People with celiac disease often have low calcium levels, the reasons for which are complex and involve parathyroid hormone and vitamin D, in addition to the direct malabsorption of calcium. I had one colleague with undiagnosed celiac disease who woke up after yet another colonoscopy, and she was unable to move her muscles due to low blood calcium levels. Since the major reservoir of calcium in the body is the bone, calcium is taken from the bone to preserve blood calcium levels, which can lead to severe osteoporosis over the years.
Blood tests can be highly suggestive of a celiac disease diagnosis, but small bowel biopsies remain the definitive way to diagnose celiac disease. Blood tests can turn out negative if a person is on a gluten-free diet, so the blood tests must be done while a person is consuming gluten.
Your question about getting another biopsy after being on a gluten-free diet is debated. However, the consensus of opinion as published by the American Gastroenterological Association is that people like you with severe celiac disease should get another biopsy within 12 months to confirm the original diagnosis and establish that your diet has allowed the intestine to heal.
In your case, carefully monitoring your vitamin D, parathyroid hormone and calcium levels, as well as keeping up with your bone density, will be important ways of confirming whether your treatment was successful. Unfortunately, bone is slow to change, and it will take years to be sure that your osteoporosis is improving through bone density tests.
You can read a lot more about celiac disease at celiac.org.

DID YOU KNOW? Men and women often make an effort to lose weight before special events such as weddings or vacations. While many people do so in healthy ways, others take their weight loss efforts to the extreme. For example, many brides-to-be aspire to shed excess weight before their weddings so they can look as slim as possibly in their wedding gowns. The New York Times even reported in 2012 on a bride who spent eight days on a feeding tube to strictly limit calories so she could fit into her wedding dress. Such efforts are dangerous and could put individuals’ long-term health in serious jeopardy. Healthy weight loss for any occasion requires a long lead time, so that individuals can safely shed between one and two pounds per week with a healthy mix of diet and exercise, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Trimming between 500 and 1,000 calories per day from their diets can help individuals lose weight safely.
(this is an addendum to the letter you will receive in the mail)
A er our ninth meeting on water and sewer budgets, where little progress was made, I feel we can’t keep allowing stall tactics when our residents are being faced with the possibility of rate increases. If you look at your bills there is a capital project cost of $38.53 added to your water bill. is was originally put on to pay for our new water plant. e board decided to install new water mains which were in bad shape. ey decided to keep the $38.53 on our bills and use that money to pay off the water project in 7 years. We have not touched rates since 2014. Inflation has been depleting our budgets. Everyone hoped to pay it back in 7 years, but inflation has dictated otherwise. Trustee Perkins however is still pursuing a seven-year payback with a rate increase. A er 8 meetings I suggested paying it off in 10 years, saving the money to balance our budget. Trustee Perkins stated at our last meeting that when he talks to residents, they agree with him on a 7-year payback, but that would come with at least a $21 per quarter raise in base rates.
e water project was $6,710,000. We secured $3,000,000 in grant money and the village has already paid back $1,031,508 which leaves $2,669,492. USDA Rural Development gave us a hardship loan for twenty-five years at 1.25%. Being the Public Works Superintendent I have witnessed difficulty with residents paying their water/sewer bills. My suggestion of paying it off in ten years saves the water budget but the sewer is still going in the red. A er our last meeting, I found it hard to stop reflecting on this, and I've come up with a new solution. e water fund a er this fiscal year (runs from June 1st to May 31st) will have a $600,000 fund balance (savings account). We should leave that alone and collect our 4-5% interest which will generate around $30,000 yearly. e sewer fund needs a $21 per quarter raise. at’s the number the board has approximated.
So, here’s my solution to solve both water/sewer shortfalls: Have a public hearing in April and restructure rates. First, we should terminate the $38.53 capitol cost on water and lower it to around $10 capital cost. en we would add $21 to the base rate of the sewer charge. is shi would take the sewer fund out of the red and into the black. is would solve both budget shortfalls WITHOUT RAISING YOUR RATES. Trustee Perkins is trying to figure out whether to raise the base rate or cost per 1000-gallon rate. Here is a solution to not raise any rates.
A previous board back in 1999 borrowed money on our storage water tanks. It is a 32-year serial bond at 4.5% interest, it cannot be paid off early per loan stipulations. Payment each year with interest and principal is around $110,505.00. ese will both be paid off in 2032. In seven years, we will have that money, of $110,505.00, to put towards the water project. By using the Hardship loan to our advantage our rates should remain healthy for the foreseeable future. Why would we want to pay off a Hardship loan that was given to us at 1.25% when we can get 4-5% interest on our money in our savings account? So please save this letter and regardless if I am elected, demand these options be explored. We do NOT NEED A RATE INCREASE.
A er our last budget meeting there are a few points that require clarification. Being on the board one should have an understanding of the budget. Yet there seems to be some difficulty comprehending fund balance (savings account). To address the misconception that the village is broke: is is not true. Our general fund has gone from 2.2 million in Jan 2023, to 2.6 million in Jan 2024, to 3.3 million in Jan 2025. is information is available on the village website: www.dansvilleny.us under financial reports.
General Fund Balance
e 24-25 budget Trustee Perkins wanted to meet with Trustee Wiedrick and myself on a Saturday. is was the only time we sat down privately in his four-year term. He wanted me to put all projects I had planned for the future in the budget for general and water, even if I didn’t foresee them being completed within the year. What this did is inflate the budget and make it look like we are using massive amounts of our fund balance (savings account). I figured this out when he started saying things in meetings about excessive amounts of fund balance being used. We will not use any money from fund balance in water or general. Because we have this money collecting interest, we put in last year’s budget a projected revenue of $50,000, to date we have collected $104,000 and should collect another $30,000. is money helps offset our taxes. As you can see above, we have $1,440,241.77 of available cash (money the village can use for capital purchases or balance budget). ese numbers can be verified by the village clerk’s office. If elected I will vote NO TO ANY TAX RATE INCREASE FOR FISCAL YEAR 25-26. I WILL VOTE YES TO LOWER THE RATE. As you can see, your vote truly matters. We need a board that will work together as a team, and the time to make that happen is now. If you want transparency, the truth and people who care about the community, vote Scott Tracy and Mark Specchio. Mark and I have the same core values along with the determination and experience necessary to continue to move our village forward. Please vote Scott Tracy and Mark Specchio for Village Trustees.

When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, cuisine, hosts should not overlook the importance of providing some staples that people have grown to expect on March 17. Corned beef and cabbage might not be the most authentic Irish meal, but it’s become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and therefore earned its place on your Paddy’s Day menu. Hosts can start the day off right by whipping up a pre-parade traditional Irish breakfast, complete with eggs, Irish bacon, white and black pudding, and brown bread. Hosts need not feel beholden to cuisine exclusive to Ireland or those that have become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day, but making sure at least one such dish is available is guaranteed to please your guests.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE CONVERTING AN ATTIC
Access is another aspect that must adhere to local safety guidelines. Many attics are accessible only through pulldown ladders, but that will have to change if homeowners repurpose their attic spaces. A staircase that complies with local laws will need to be installed, and contractors can work with homeowners to build that and estimate the cost. Homeowners who simply want to put desks in their attics without going with full-fledged conversions are urged to adhere to local access requirements anyway, as they’re intended to ensure residents can safely escape attics in the case of a fire or another emergency.

St. Patrick’s Day and Irish culture in particular is synonymous with music, and there may be no better way to stoke kids’ enthusiasm for St. Patrick’s Day than to introduce them to Irish music. Check out local entertainment venues to see if there are any Irish-inspired concerts on tap. If possible, find shows geared toward youngsters that encourage them to participate by singing along or dancing as the musicians play. Kids who seem especially inspired can even be encouraged to learn an instrument associated with Irish music, such as the banjo, tin whistle or violin.

Establish a bar setup
Home bars can range from rolling carts to built-in wet bars to a single tray of items. Space in a home will dictate the kind of bar homeowners can have. Rolling bar carts are popular and versatile, and they can be kept stationary or rolled in and out of a room as needed. If a bar cart is open, organization is key, as you don’t want it to look unkempt.
A full-blown wet bar will require more construction, including plumbing and electricity if you need outlets for plugging in appliances. Wet bars are ideal in dens, renovated garages and finished basements.
The color green is everywhere come St. Patrick’s Day, but celebrants may be surprised to learn that blue is the color that was once most affiliated with St. Patrick himself. Numerous paintings depict St. Patrick wearing blue vestments. But green is the color now most instantly associated with Ireland, which is widely referred to as the “Emerald Isle.” Ireland’s lush countryside and rolling green hills attract millions of visitors each year. The color green can be found just about everywhere on St. Patrick’s Day, even if Patrick himself was partial to blue.

We are quickly approaching another election for Village Trustee, a 4 year term. I can no longer support my friend Scott Tracy for Village Trustee and here is why.
Scott Tracy is running on mistruths. is seems to be a standard occurrence for him. In 2021 the Village Water Project was started. ere was $6.7 million for this project. e project was to complete 30% of the village water lines. During a Village Board meeting, Scott put on a PowerPoint presentation with the assistance of one of his daughters. During his presentation Scott said he completed the project under budget. NOT TRUE. He only completed 17% of the project and spent $6.7 million that isn’t scheduled to be paid off until 2061. Children not even born yet will be paying on this mistake until they are 36 years old. Is this what you want for a trustee?
Fact: Scott spent over $400,000 for 2 new payloaders without board approval.
Fact: Scott Tracy will tell you there is $3.3 million in fund balance. What he won’t tell you is that $2.6 million is already allotted for other things. He won’t tell you this because even after 13 years as DPW Superintendent he doesn’t understand fund balance.
Do you want a trustee spending your money that does not understand a responsible budget and fund balance? I don’t think so.
Scott wants to raise water rates, sewer rates and increase your tax rate. Why? To fix his mistakes! ese are real concerns for our village and this only touches on a few of many. Get the truth on fund balance. If we have $3.3 million of spendable money why do we need rate and tax increases?
Please Vote!

My heartfelt thanks to the kind gentleman who stopped the night of February 3 at the 5 Corners in Albion when he saw my car and I off the road and in trouble. He stayed with me until the wonderful first responders arrived. I’m Very Grateful!!
Several weeks ago, I fell on ice on our driveway while putting out the garbage. Several cars drove by while I lay on the ground. Then a lovely young man in a white truck stopped to check on me. He picked me up, checked that I could walk, and took the tote to the end of the driveway. He was my guardian angel! Thank you!
Thank you to the kind lady who works at my local Walmart in Geneseo for sharing your light. I was shopping for plant supplies and we got to chatting about our love for plants/nature and the upcoming brighter days of the seasons. She even shared with me a photo of a new Enchanted Weeping Willow plant (so cute and fuzzy!) she had found at another store, which brought back a lot of my childhood nostalgia of what my Mom and Grandmother had when I was a young girl. I got one of the last few remaining plants at the other store and it has already brought so much delight to my home and I will enjoy watching it bloom and grow. I ran into her again later in the week when I was picking up groceries and it was so uplifting to connect and let her know that I got that plant and to share that glimmer of light after a long and difficult winter season. Everything happens for a reason and it was so cool for all of that to come full circle. Thank you again and keep shining!

The potholes are really bad this year! Seems they’re on every road I drive on through towns and the expressway. I hope these get taken care of. It’s dangerous when people swerve in and out of lanes trying to avoid them.
Just a kind request for neighbors within the city limits that feel the need to feed EVERY single bird and animal to take into consideration what a mess it makes of your neighbors’ yards, their vehicles, sidewalks & fences when you invite so many birds and varmints to the neighborhood. You may think squirrels and groundhogs are cute but they have demolished my fences and made a mess of my gardens and garage. If you have that many leftover vegetables, please take them to a pantry!

Raised bumps or welts: Fleas can irritate the skin, causing raised welts on pets and people. People are often affected near the ankles when fleas jump from the carpet onto human skin.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Why are so many people opting for small, yappy dogs these days instead of big dogs? That seems to be all I see when folks walk their dogs around here. A small dog won’t protect you or your home. -- Bobby T., Oak Ridge, Tennessee
DEAR BOBBY: While it may seem that most dog owners are choosing smaller breeds, the number of small vs. large dogs varies greatly depending on where you live. So you may observe that most of your immediate neighbors have small dogs -- but their popularity is not as universal as you think.
The American Kennel Club, for example, annually lists the most popular dogs by number of registrations per breed. In 2023, the most recent year of published data, the French bulldog was the most popular registered breed in the U.S. However, among the top 10 breeds, only four -- including the French bulldog, Dachshund, Beagle and Bulldog -- could be classified as “small.” The remaining six most popular dogs, including the Rottweiler, Golden Retriever and German Shorthaired Pointer, are all large breeds.
Not all U.S. households that own dogs have registered breeds, of course, The American Veterinary Medical Association in 2024 reported that just under half of U.S. households own dogs, while 32.1% are cat owners. So, while the French bulldog may be the most popular AKC-registered pet, that statistic doesn’t take into account all of the dogs that are being walked through their neighborhoods nationwide.
Security-wise, having a dog of any size can be a deterrent for potential intruders (or attackers). Large breeds, often gentle giants, can deter people with bad intentions easily, but smaller breeds should not be underestimated. Send your tips, comments or questions to ask@pawscorner.com © 2025 King Features Synd., Inc.
Fleas: Fleas are parasitic blood-suckers that reside on the coats of pets. Scratching, hot spots, hair loss, and tapeworms (which are carried by fleas) can be symptomatic of flea infestation. Some people may notice actual fleas on their dogs, while others may identify the flea dirt against a dog’s skin. Flea prevention medicines and medicated shampoos can help keep fleas at bay.
Fellow Dansville Community Members,
I am honored to announce my candidacy for Village Trustee, and I am reaching out to ask for your support in this important election. I moved to Dansville in 2016 after marrying my wife Karen (Finewood) Specchio, a lifelong community member. is is the community we chose to make our home and raise our children. We are deeply invested in the future of our village and want to see it thrive for generations to come. I believe that my experience, leadership skills, and commitment to responsible governance make me the best candidate to serve as your Trustee.
Experience & Leadership
roughout my career, I have demonstrated strong leadership and decision-making abilities that will directly benefit our village. I understand the challenges our community faces—rising costs, aging infrastructure, and declining population. With experience managing budgets, conducting cost analysis, and making strategic financial decisions, I am ready to bring that expertise to our Village Board.
My diverse background has prepared me to serve as an effective Village Trustee. I have extensive experience managing budgets, optimizing resources, and making datadriven decisions to improve efficiency. I have worked in demanding environments
where cost-effective planning and strategic foresight are essential. Having managed equipment and personnel in challenging conditions, I understand the importance of preventative maintenance, proper asset management, and long-term planning. My ability to assess costs and benefits will help ensure that every village investment—whether in infrastructure, public services, or equipment—is made with a clear focus on sustainability, efficiency, and the best interests of our residents.
As a Village Trustee, I will prioritize responsible budgeting to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. I believe in transparency and accountability, and I will work to make sure that every dollar invested in our community is used effectively. Whether it’s maintaining roads, upgrading village infrastructure, or ensuring that our public works department has the necessary resources, I will advocate for financial decisions that benefit all residents.
I believe that the best solutions often require thinking outside the box. As a Trustee, I will approach challenges with creativity and an open mind, looking beyond traditional methods to find practical, innovative solutions that improve our village. Whether it’s identifying costeffective ways to maintain infrastructure,
exploring new revenue opportunities, or finding alternative solutions to reduce expenses, I will work to develop strategies that maximize benefits for our residents. My goal is to ensure that our community thrives by implementing forward-thinking policies that address both present and future needs.
Our village deserves well-maintained parks, vibrant recreational spaces, and efficient community services. I will work to pursue grants to maintain our infrastructure and upgrade our parks to reduce the financial burden on our community. While balancing budget and need, I strive to ensure that our public works and recreation programs have the resources they need to keep our green spaces beautiful, our facilities well-kept, and our community thriving. Investing in highquality public spaces today means a stronger, more connected village for years to come.
Every decision made at the Village Board level should be based on careful analysis, facts, and long-term projections. I will work to ensure that major financial and infrastructure decisions are evaluated with a detailed cost-benefit analysis—considering both short-term expenses and long-term savings. My approach will focus on utility at both the micro and macro levels: how an investment directly benefits residents today, and how it strengthens our village’s financial health and services for future generations. Whether it’s investing in new equipment, improving roads, or planning for economic development, I will ensure that every choice
is supported by real data and a clear vision for our community’s future.
As your Trustee, I will always be accessible and ready to listen. I believe in open communication and working together to find solutions that best serve the needs of our residents. Your concerns will be my priorities, and I will strive to make decisions that reflect the values and goals of our community.
My family and I are proud to call this village our home, and I am excited about the opportunity to serve and bring positive change to our community. With your support, I will work diligently to maintain the charm of our village while ensuring a strong, sustainable future. I ask for your vote in the March 18th election, and I look forward to working together to make our village an even better place to live.
ank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions or would like to discuss my vision for our village, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Mark L. Specchio Jr. Candidate for Village Trustee

“They are perfect examples of how hard work pays off, and I am happy for the recognition they have received because they have earned it.”
COACH ROB FRIES
In a remarkable display of talent and dedication, cousins Trevor Stroud and Josh Harter, both varsity basketball players for Avon High School, reached the 1,000-point milestone within just three days of each other. Trevor Stroud, jersey #11, achieved this milestone during a home game against Rochester Prep on January 14. Not to be outdone, his cousin Josh Harter, jersey #2, hit his 1,000th point on January 17 in a thrilling home matchup against Letchworth.
e duo’s achievement is a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and a shared passion for basketball. Coach Rob Fries, who has been with Avon since 1996 as a history teacher and has coached varsity basketball and baseball since 2007, reflected on their journey. “Trevor and Josh have been playing basketball together since they were very young. I would credit their success to countless hours of building their skills in camps and clinics, mostly with their fathers in the CEB (Competitive Edge Basketball) program, and in their driveways at home,” said Fries. “ ey are perfect examples of how hard work pays off, and I am happy for the recognition they have received because they have earned it.”
Trevor and Josh’s on-court chemistry is evident, honed through years of playing together, from childhood pickup games to competitive varsity matchups. “For as long as I can remember, it’s been me and him playing basketball together – always 1v1s in his basement or outside on mini hoops. Anything we could do, we were always playing and training together,” Trevor says.
Trevor has played basketball since he was very young, but his athletic career isn’t limited to just the hardwood. “I’ve been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. I also play soccer, baseball, and I play AAU basketball in the spring and summer,” he shared. His early memories in the sport go back to kindergarten, recalling how his father taught him to do a crossover in mini hoops basketball.
Trevor credits his success to key mentors who shaped his journey, including his dad and his uncle who have coached him since 2nd grade. “ ey made me the player I am,” he says. His passion for the game is undeniable, stating, “I love it. e competitive nature and everything about it.”
Reaching the 1,000-point milestone is a significant achievement, but for Trevor, it’s just a step toward something bigger. “It’s a nice accolade to add to the personal resume, but the main goal is a championship.”
One of his favorite basketball memories so far has been “winning sectionals and seeing all the work we’ve put in pay off.” eir relentless work ethic has not gone unnoticed, with several area colleges expressing interest in both athletes as they plan to continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level.
Despite these individual accomplishments, the team remains focused on a collective goal. “Our goal this year as a team is to win sectionals, and that is our focus every day,” Coach Fries emphasized. “ at is what our goal is every year, and we focus on that as a team; it takes everyone on a team to accomplish it.”
Trevor shares a message for his teammates, classmates, and aspiring players of all ages: “ e grind is worth it. Keep going, and good things will be the outcome. Always have a ball in your hands. It’s all about the hours you put in when no one is watching.”
Share your original stories about local heroes, community events, school achievements, or hidden gems–email your story idea to hometown@gvpennysaver.com!
Coach Fries expresses his gratitude to the Avon community, saying, “I would like to thank the Avon community for all their years of support. It is a great community to live in, teach in, and coach for, and you feel it when we play big games. Josh and Trevor have been a big part of our recent success and have created a really fun style of play. It will be hard to watch them graduate.”
AsAvonHighSchool’sbasketballprogramprogresses, the legacy of these cousins will undoubtedly inspire future generations of athletes, showcasing that with dedication, teamwork, and community support, extraordinary milestones are within reach.
Some historians believe the myth of the leprechaun has origins in ancient Ireland, when people believed the tiny creatures were among the various inhabitants of fairy forts and fairy rings throughout the Emerald Isle. Another take on the source of the leprechaun myth is that these tiny creatures were modern incarnations of the Euro-Celtic god Lugh, who was the sun god as well as the patron of arts and crafts. 585-335-9466 Option 1 (Septic) obriensepticservice.com 9429 Meter

Take care of your health. Mental Health America, a community-based nonprofit committed to promoting mental health, urges individuals dealing with the loss of a loved one to take care of their own health. After losing a loved one, some people may be in danger of developing a dependence on medication or alcohol that they’re using to deal with their grief. It’s important that grieving individuals recognize that threat and the role that maintaining one’s personal health can play in the healing process. Regular contact with your physician, routine exercise and a healthy diet can promote personal health and may help individuals avoid the pitfalls of addiction after the death of a loved one.

Although inevitable, death is an emotional subject that’s difficult to discuss. While estate planning can make people uncomfortable, it is an essential part of securing assets for future generations and can make a death in the family easier for loved ones to handle.
Estate planning is an umbrella term that refers to a host of things that must be done prior to a person’s death, including writing a will and even making funeral arrangements. Estate planning attempts to eliminate financial uncertainties and maximize the value of an estate, and allows men and women to state their wishes with regard to long-term healthcare and guardianship for their children.
When done right, estate planning can prevent family feuds and ensure that the deceased’s estate stays in the hands of family rather than being relegated to the government. Estate planning can be a complex process, so men and women should seek help to ensure the process goes smoothly.

Nursing is one of the fastest-growing and longest-running occupations in the United States and Canada. The New England Hospital for Women and Children, established in 1862, was the first nursing school in the United States. The first formal nursing training program in Canada was established in 1874 at the General and Marine Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. The American Nurses Association was started in 1898. The Canadian Nurses’ Association, formerly the Canadian National Association of Trained Nurses, was developed in 1907. These associations are national professional associations representing the hundreds of thousands of nurses across the country and are instrumental in legislative policy and the influences of health care on nursing professionals today.

Be brief yet effective
A concise design is key. Many recruiters spend little to no time reviewing the hordes of résumés they receive. In fact, automated résumé bots may initially screen the documents to thin the crowd. According to data from the 12th annual Mystery Job Candidate survey by CareerXRoads, the average recruiter spends six seconds looking at a résumé. If a résumé is lengthy or doesn’t attract attention, it will likely be ignored. Stick to a single-page and make sure wording is brief but meaty.
