Christian Aid provides support to end poverty around the world for all regardless of religion or none.
For the past year we have facilitated the creation of a Climate Action Plan for Brislington. The plan is a compilation of local priorities and actions around themes like ‘Transport’, ‘Nature’ and ‘Homes and Buildings’. Crucially, it positions climate and nature action hand in hand with social action - making sure that as we address the climate and nature crisis, we address inequalities and create benefits for everyone.
The creation of the plan happened over cups of tea, at local markets, and community picnics, as well as dedicated community workshops where people joined together to share what’s important to them.
The plan is part of Bristol Climate and Nature Partnerships' community climate action project. We have loved learning and creating our plans alongside Southmead Development Trust, Hillfields Community Gardens, Knowle West Media Centre and Windmill Hill City Farm.
You can now read the plan here.
Read the full plan Here
Already there are different groups and activities started up in response to the plan, including: St Anne’s Community Gardening Group and Batch Cook Club, if you’d like to get involved in there please visit the webpages.
There are already brilliant groups of volunteers across who are giving up their time to make a difference to local people and places. Follow links below to find out more and see how you can get involved (let us know if you are involved in something you would like to be included below)

We are a group of local residents who have been working alongside Bristol City Council over the last few years to look after the nature reserve. Much of our work involves striking a balance between enabling visitors to get close to nature, and enabling nature to take its course. The site has water meadows and woodland that give the feeling of being in the countryside even though you are still within the city boundaries. There is also a children’s play area adjacent to Eastwood Road .The nature reserve, play area and the adjacent riverside bar (Beeses) together provide a facility that everyone in Brislington can enjoy and be proud to have in their area.

Turning polluting vehicles into humanitarian aid for Ukraine
In an amazing project between Transport for London and British Ukrainian Aid, London high polluting vehicle owners who scrap their vehicles are entitled to a substantial payment. They can donate their vehicle (and their payment) to charity British Ukrainian Aid who will fill it with humanitarian aid – from medical kits to portable generators – and take the vehicle and the kit to Ukraine for life saving purposes
In Brislington we don’t live in the London Ultra Low Emission Zone, but we can donate to British Ukrainian Aid to fill the vehicles with life saving equipment

Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life.
Have a read Here
Now we are heading away from Easter – this Sunday is the last one ‘of Easter’ and heading towards Pentecost Sunday on 19th May – more about Pentecost (the old Whitsun) next week
This week has seen Ascension Day – ‘ascension’ not as in upwards, but as in ‘top of the class’, the best, moving up the rankings
This Sunday’s gospel needs reading several times, but it is an assurance from Jesus that as his people go into the wider world then and now, he will be with them
For those who pray, a beautiful prayer for them based on Romans 8.38-39
Jesus, Keep reminding me of the bigger picture over the next few weeks, Keep me in your hands when all other hands disappear,
For I am convinced that neither entry requirements nor exam results, neither anticipation nor doubts, neither success nor failure, nor any expectations, neither last minute fears nor anxieties, nor anything else in life, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen
Every year, every Church of England parish must have an Annual meeting, open to the public and announced well in advance
At these meetings, two churchwardens are elected and the electors are anyone who is resident in the parish, whatever their religion or none
Each parish church has a Church Council with elections for membership. The electors are those on the Church Electoral Roll which is open to anyone living in the parish
At APCMs, reports on activities and finances are given
The APCMs for the Brislington churches are on these dates:
St Christopher’s: Sunday 19th May at 5.00pm
St Cuthbert’s: Tuesday 21st May at 7pm
St Anne’s: Wednesday 29th May at 7.30pm
All parishioners are welcome to attend
Church services across Brislington May 2024. There’s a great choice of churches, times and types of services across the Brislington churches.

Our MISSION focus in May is Christian Aid, which exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. You will see information on the mission board in the porch.
12-18 May is Christian Aid week, and this year's focus is on Burundi, where malnourishment and poverty affect more than 70% of the population. In this challenging context, Christian Aid help people set up savings groups in their villages, which provide members with small loans to start businesses. This generates an income to cover their family's basic needs, providing stability and hope for the future.
Please consider making a gift to support Christian Aid this month - there will be red envelopes available in church next Sunday 12 May to take away and return with a donation on 19 May, as well as 7 day devotional guides to help you pray during the week.
