Top Tip
Recycle overripe bananas by putting them in your garden. Their sweet aroma attracts beneficial insects like butterflies, bees, and ladybugs. Additionally, as the bananas decompose, they release nutrients into the soil, acting as a natural fertilizer, enriching the garden and promoting healthier plant growth. During July, Hungry Horse will be raising money for Macmillan by passing a Macmillan torch around 16 of our sites from pub to pub starting in Portsmouth and finishing at the Lodekka.
As we are the final pub, we will be holding an event at the end of July and was wondering if anyone would have any donations for prizes and Tombola. Dates and event still to be confirmed but just putting the idea out there
An event held at Green Works on Sunday 4th August. The event starts at 11:00 and finishes at 16:00. The event has been tagged in the food & drink category We still have a few stalls left to fill but everyone is welcome to come check it out.
Creatives, Cooks and Crafters head on over to Green Works for our first Sunday Market. Free and families welcome. Please grab a free e-ticket Here if you can so we can get an idea of attendance!
Stalls include (but not only):
Bespoke Furniture, Handmade Jewellery, Face Painting, Second-hand Clothes, Caribbean Food
Tuesday 20th August
This year’s Victory Park Community Picnic planning is underway.
The idea behind this event is no or low cost for the families of Broomhill and Brislington to attend in the school summer holidays when patience and money is running out. To engage with the park and have fun with the wider community.
I am looking for any community groups that would like to come along and maybe run an activity or perform in some way.
- sports group or activity?
- outdoor yoga session)
- dance/music group? (any choirs out there)
- craft or tell us about your hobby?
- children's entertainer happy to offer a free sample of your show?
- children's author who would like to read your book or lead a storytelling session.
Do send me a message if you are able to come and support us on.

Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early Church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life.
The gospel story has, as so often, so many layers and perhaps one of them is ‘compare and contrast’. Contrast the high born, probably well off synagogue leader, Jairus, with the poor, ill, woman who has spent everything to no avail; 12 years link them –Jairus’ daughter was 12 years old and the woman (whose name we are not given) had been suffering for 12 years. Compare that Jesus heals both high born and the lowly without distinction.
Every parish church has usually two churchwardens who are elected each year by parishioners. After their election, they take their oaths:
“I declare that I will faithfully and diligently discharge the duties of the office of churchwarden for the above parish during the period of my appointment”
Churchwardens are generally responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the parish. These responsibilities include various aspects of administration, plant operations, and personnel. Their work is not just the maintenance of the church building but helping the smooth running of the church. In this capacity, wardens are considered the leading lay member of the congregation, and, during the incumbency of a priest, may have varying duties and responsibilities according to the customs of the parish, the canons of the diocese to which the parish belongs, the desires of the priest, and the direction of the parish board and/or the congregation as a whole.
Members of congregations are welcome to attend the occasions when their churchwardens are sworn in as below

Church services across Brislington June 2024. There’s a great choice of churches, times and types of services across the Brislington churches. If you have not been to one yet or recently, you’ll be very welcome!
Our reading on Sunday took us to Jesus' calming of the storm, as illustrated here in Rembrandt's painting. For reflection today a poem by Bruce Prewer which draws on the disciples’ questions to one another - "Who is this, even the wind and waves obey him.“
To know what keeps you afloat; to let another hand steer; to be safe in a foundering boat: who is this Jesus?
To be see when there’s no light; to trust when nothing’s clear; to confront the powers of night: who is this Jesus?
To speak the word that saves; to know God is even here; to command the wind and the waves: who is this Jesus?
