* Most of all, we're on the hunt for an open-minded, hardworking, pleasant and respectful human, who is looking for a career path or a job they would love to go to

Calling all detectives!

The BART* team are running a free river monitoring training session on the River Trym in West Bristol at 7:00pm on 18th July.

During the session, we will demonstrate how to sample rivers for nutrient levels. Elevated nutrient levels can harm river wildlife, and understanding how to measure them is crucial for river health.

The training session will cover all of the skills needed to become a monthly BART River Detective, with participants being able to take home their own free river sampling kit.

Attendees from all backgrounds are encouraged to attend, and no previous experience is required.

Brislington Conservation and History Society celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a members only party on July 25.

Originally formed after a public meeting in St Luke's Church Hall in 1984 the society was originally Brislington Conservation and Amenity Society. Formed to celebrate and conserve Brislington, past , present and future, the group formed the Brislington Conservation Area, and helped to preserve the Victorian villa, Lynwood, on Bath Road, now restored and converted into flats after 30 years of neglect. BCHS have produced two books of local history photographs, "Brislington" (1995) and "Brislington Revisited"(2008), plus many leaflets on Brislington's past, as well as organising many exhibitions, talks and guided walks. The society has a large archive of old photographs of Brislington, as well as other material and information.

Monthly meetings are held usually at St Cuthbert's Crypt, Sandy Park Road at 7.30 on the last Thursday of the month. Most events are open to non members.

The next event is a Talk & Walk at St Luke's Church on Saturday, August 17th at 2pm led by Jonathan Rowe, Chairman of BCHS.

I am looking for any community groups that would like to come along and maybe run an activity or perform in some way.

- sports group or activity?

- outdoor yoga session)

- dance/music group? (any choirs out there)

- craft or tell us about your hobby?

- children's entertainer happy to offer a free sample of your show?

Hope for Ukraine Bristol

On Saturday a group of volunteers came together to pack up our fourth full lorry of humanitarian aid.

This lorry is now heading to Suceava, Northern Romania, where our partners here will then determine the areas of most need and gradually transport into some of the needy outlying areas in Ukraine.

This lorry is full of your donations, from tools to food parcels and clothing to medical equipment, the people of Ukraine will be very grateful for your generosity.

Watch this space for updates of our lorry as it makes its way to its final destination!

MEETING WITH LOCAL CHURCH-GOERS

Last week we were very much made to feel welcome by local churchgoers when four of our Brislington churches came together to host a sermon on “Who Should I Vote For?”. We’d like to say thanks to everyone who came along and made us feel so welcome, and I hope we were able to provide suitable answers to your questions!

This Sunday with the bible

Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early Church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life.

Have

a read Here

The bible passages today are all about truth telling and especially telling the truth to violent and lawless people who will respond to criticism with violence and in the case of Herod, with extreme violence.

Nothing much has changed when we look around us, whether in the extreme cases of Russia or Iran or in the worlds of social media Being able to hear the truth and respond truthfully to it is a mark of true humanity and reflects Jesus’s words: ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’

Looking ahead

Jonathan Rowe, Chairman of Brislington Conservation and History Society, will lead a Talk and Walk at St Luke's Church and churchyard on Saturday August 17th at 2pm.

The talk will begin with a short history of the 15th century church and will also include stories of its many associations with writers such as Hannah More, Jane Austen, and even a tenuous link to Agatha Christie!

In the churchyard you'll hear the story of the man, buried here, who reputedly died aged 153, a link to how the term "gas lighting" began, and the tragic tale of a young vicar who committed suicide in 1886 who is buried in the churchyard. All this and much more!

The event is free but donations are welcomed and will be divided between Brislington Conservation and History Society and St Luke's Church.
