Essequibo belongs to Guyana! This is part of a series of information on the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy, and forms part of the national education campaign on the topic: The Government of Venezuela has now decided to put to its population, through a vote, certain questions relating to the matter before the Court. This so-called “Consultative Referendum” will be held on December 3, 2023. The questions that will be answered by the Venezuelan people have been drafted to obtain responses that would support Venezuela’s decision to abandon the proceedings before the ICJ, and take unilateral action in furtherance of its claim.
