I would like to wish you all a very warm welcome to The Limestone Construction Field, Monks Sports Club this afternoon for our game against Milford ARLFC in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two.
We welcome the players, supporters and committee of Milford to Woolston and hope that they have had a safe journey and enjoy our hospitality today.
Today will be the first time that we have faced Milford for over twenty years so it will be good to see them again; no doubt some of each club’s committees will still be involved from that last encounter. Milford, as well as Woolston, were one of the original ten teams when the National League was formed in the 1986/87 and they went on to win the league in 1987/88.
We started the season really impressively with five wins from seven games; the only two setbacks coming at Dewsbury Moor Maroons and Shaw Cross Sharks, with very late scores costing us victory. I’m sure that Billy Sheen and Mal Holt will have the lads ready to bounce back to winning ways this afternoon.
Our NWML side have not been in action for a few weeks, and don’t play again until n next weekend. So far they have won two and lost two of their four games to date. Liam Lawton will be keen for his lads to get back out onto the field next weekend. A couple of advance notices:
Our Under 14s Greens entertain Shevington Sharks in the National Cup Semi Final on Sunday 28th May; please come down to Monks’ on that day and give the lads your full support as they aim to reach the National Cup Final.
Our very first Beer Festival will take place on Friday 30th June and Saturday 1st July; please keep your eyes peeled to our social Media channels for further details over the next couple of weeks.
Also in the programme you can find the fixtures for our Junior teams who play tomorrow. We have plenty of excellent players (and coaches) within our Junior ranks so if you have a spare hour or two in the morning please try and get along and show them your support.
Thanks for your attendance today and we hope to see you again very soon. Why not bring a friend along with you next time and introduce them to the Rovers!!!

their 100% record as they claimed their fourth successive victory over a tough Myton Warriors side in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club.
Rovers got off to the perfect start when hooker Oliver Livett scored in the very first minute. Scrum half Dec Leonard converted and then five minutes later prop forward Ryan Palin crashed over for a try. Leonard added the conversion.
The home side moved further clear on the half hour when substitute Adam Files, playing his first game of the campaign, went over for a trademark try. Leonard converted but the Humbersiders got on the scoreboard four minutes before the break with a try from winger Tyler Fisher to make the half time score 18-4 to Rovers.
Two minutes into the second half Rovers second row Sam Vernon crossed for a fine try but then eleven minutes later he was sin binned for a shoulder charge although it didn’t seem to affect Rovers as almost immediately loose forward Harry Files scored. Leonard added the conversion.
The visitors refused to throw the towel in and they were rewarded when Fisher crossed for his second try and shortly afterwards stand off Nathan Slater scored. Scrum half Kris Walker converted.
A minute from time Myton scored once again with Slater crossing. K Walker converted but it was to little too late as Rovers claimed a deserved 28-20 win.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers loose forward Harry Files. He was very well supported by stand off Ryan Brown and second row Scott Whiteley.

Woolston Rovers suffered last second heartache as a converted try seven minutes into injury time saw them lose their 100% record at the hands of Dewsbury Moor Maroons in an enthralling Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two game at Heckmondwike Road Dewsbury.
In a cagey opening both sides defensive skills were apparent and it took until the seventeenth minutes for the deadlock to be broke as the home side hit the front with a try from hooker Ryan Crossley. Full back Aiden Ineson converted but then with five minutes remaining in the first half Rovers responded with a trademark try from hooker Adam Files. Scrum half Dec Leonard added the conversion to make the score 6-6 at the half time interval.
Three minutes into the second half Rovers went ahead with a second try from A Files. Leonard converted and then seven minutes later centre Dan Fearnley scored to move his side ten points ahead.
Dewsbury Moor had Ineson sin binned for use of a swinging arm on the floor but almost immediately they got back into the game with a try from prop forward James Samme. Scrum half Louie Walker converted to narrow the deficit to just four points.
The Maroons winger Jake Butterfield was then shown a yellow card for an accidental kick to the head but Rovers were unable to capitalise on the numerical advantage and then with almost the last touch of the game Samme crashed over at the side of the posts to level matters. Ineson added the simple conversion to break Rovers hearts and give Dewsbury a narrow 18-16 win.

Woolston Rovers ‘A’ bounced back to winning ways with a brilliant home victory over previously unbeaten league leaders Roose Pioneers in the NWML Division Two at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club.
Rovers opened the scoring in the very first minute when second row Patryk Mazur broke through the Roose line and raced sixty metres to score. Stand off Craig Lawton converted and then nine minutes later good handling close to the line paved the way for Lawton to power over. Lawton landed the conversion to his own try.
A mistake by Rovers from the restart gifted Roose possession and centre Josh Cohen went over from close range. Stand off Ricky Donaghue converted but then a penalty to Rovers put them deep into the Roose half and slick passing saw the ball reach centre Kyle Cherrett scored on the left. Lawton added the conversion.
Roose then capitalised on a Rovers error from a kick through as centre Rob Sheppard collected the loose ball to score wide out but then just before the half hour mark Mazur broke through once again to claim his second try of the game.
As the game entered the closing stages of the half a penalty for Roose got themselves close to the Rovers line and substitute Dan White crashed over on the right. Donaghue converted and then full back Jordan Ashton stretched out to score on the left. Donaghue added the conversion to make the half time score 22-22.
Rovers moved back in front eight minutes into the second half when a long ball from Lawton found Cherrett who used his strength to go over wide out on the left and they then made sure of the win in the last minute as hooker Jack Hancock went from dummy half to force his way over at the side of the posts. Lawton added the conversion to complete an excellent 32-22 win for his side.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers hooker Jack Hancock. He was very well supported by second row Patryk Mazur and loose forward Sam Wood.

Woolston Rovers bounced back to winning ways with a very hard-fought victory over Saddleworth Rangers in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two at Shaw Hall Bank Road, Oldham.
Saddleworth opened the scoring inn the second minute with a try from full back Rob Charles. Stand off Matt Whitehead converted but then with defences on top it took until almost the half hour mark for any further scoring and that came via a try for Rovers winger Alex Pendlebury.
Rangers scored moved into a ‘two score’ advantage with a try from loose forward Billy England that Whitehead converted but then two minutes before the break Rovers centre Dan Fearnley crossed wide out to make the half time score 12-8 to Saddleworth.
Rovers were temporarily reduced to twelve men five minutes into the second half when substitute Sean Boyle was sin binned for a trip but within a minute of him leaving the field Rovers actually pulled level with a try from second row Sam Vernon.
Just before the hour mark Rovers second row Scott Whiteley scored a superb try to put his side ahead for the first time. Full back Ben Dixon took over goalkicking duties and duly landed the conversion.
Saddleworth had centre Josh Brown sent off for a punch six minutes later and Rovers were able to control the final moments to claim a thoroughly deserved 18-12 win.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers stand off Ryan Brown. He was very well supported by second row Scott Whiteley and substitute Sean Boyle.

Woolston Rovers suffered a second late defeat in three weeks when they succumb to a second half fightback by Shaw Cross Sharks in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two game at Leeds Road, Dewsbury.
Rovers got off to the perfect start when they opened the scoring in the very first minute with a try from winger Alex Pendlebury and then three minutes later hooker Adam Files crossed wide out for Rovers second early score.
The home side got off the mark on fifteen minutes with a try from prop forward Zac Parkinson that loose forward Dec Tomlinson converted but Rovers were soon back on the front foot as loose forward Scott Whiteley scored a try and then just before the half hour scrum half Dec Leonard also went over for a four pointer. Full back Theo Holt converted both tries to give his side a deserved 20-6 half time lead although they were reduced to twelve men two minutes before the break when centre Kieran Moore was sent off for throwing a punch.
Shaw Cross came out firing straight after the restart when winger Lucas Howley scored two quick tries within seven minutes; Tomlinson converted the latter and then almost immediately full back Callum Barker went over for a try. Tomlinson’s conversion put the home side ahead for the first time.
A melee then ensued with the referee dismissing Rovers substitute Oliver Livett along with Shaw Cross centre Brandan French and Howley to leave both sides with eleven men and when Shaw Cross were temporarily reduced to ten men with the sin binning of Tomlinson for dangerous contact Rovers took advantage of the extra man as Whiteley went over for his second try with Holt tagging on the extras.
As the game reached the final two minutes Shaw Cross substitute Lucas Smith went over for a try. Tomlinson converted and then added a last minute penalty to give the Sharks a 30-26 victory.
Best for Rovers were hooker Adam Files, full back Theo Holt, loose forward Scott Whiteley and prop forward Harry Files.
