I would like to wish you all a very warm welcome to The Limestone Construction Field, Monks Sports Club this afternoon for our game against Wigan St Judes in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two.
We welcome the players, supporters and committee of St Judes to Woolston and hope that they have had a safe journey and enjoy our hospitality today.
Last time out Rovers suffered a narrow 24-18 defeat to league leaders Waterhead Warriors in a very high quality game with both sides giving their all for the full eighty minutes; the game could have gone either way but unfortunately the bounce of the ball just went against us but if we can produce that type of performance on a consistent basis then we will give ourselves a great chance of being in the promotion shake up come the end of the season.
St Judes have had three wins from their last four games so come into the game in fine form so we will need to be at our best if we are to get the win; personally it will be nice to meet up with second row Kieran Rennox played for the Warrington Wolves Academy up until the end of 2021 before returning to his old club; ‘Reggie’ is a great character and I look forward to having a beer with him after the game.
Our NWML side produced a gutsy display at Golborne Parkside in their last game before losing 42-16; it was a vastly improved performance on the previous week against a quality side. They are back in action next weekend with a home game against league leaders Burtonwood Bridge; please come along if you can and give them your support. The game kicks off at 2.30pm.
Our very first Beer Festival will take place on Friday 30th June and Saturday 1st July; please keep your eyes peeled to our social Media channels for further details over the next couple of weeks. There is also a poster regarding this in today’s programme.
Also in the programme you can find the fixtures for our Junior teams who play tomorrow. There are only a couple of home games due to the Magic Weekend so please come down and watch our Under 7s and Under 9s if you can and show them your support. Our Under 11s are also in action on Monday evening at home but the kick off time is yet to be confirmed.
Thanks for your attendance today and we hope to see you again very soon. Why not bring a friend along with you next time and introduce them to the Rovers!!!

Woolston Rovers lost their 100% home record with a narrow defeat to Waterhead Warriors in a very high-quality Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two encounter at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club.
As you would expect from a top of the table clash, the opening exchanges were very even with both sides defences on top and it wasn’t until the twenty fifth minute that the first score arrived as waterhead hooker James Perks spotted a gap from dummy half and shot through it to score on the right. Second row Ciaran Dean converted and then five minutes later the referee controversially awarded a penalty try to the Warriors as he adjudged that winger Mason Young was impeded as he was about to collect the ball to score. Dean added the conversion.
Right on the stroke of half time Rovers got themselves back into the game when a great offload from second row Scott Whiteley found hooker Adam Files who brushed off four defenders to score at the left of the posts. Full back Ben Dixon converted to make the interval score 12-6 to the visitors.
Thirteen minutes into the second half pressure on the Waterhead line paid off for rovers as scrum half Dec Leonard stepped round the defence to score on the left. Dixon converted to level matters but then just after the hour mark slick handling by Waterhead created an overlap and centre Callum Murphy scored wide out on the left. Dean added the conversion.
Rovers again came bouncing back and when they were awarded a penalty close to the Warriors line the ball reached loose forward Harry Files who broke out of an attempted tackle to score at the side of the posts. Dixon converted to bring the scores level once again but then almost immediately Waterhead loose forward Danny Bridge bounced off a Rovers defender and scored under the posts. Dean added the conversion to give his side a 24-18 win in a fantastic advert for the NCL.
Best for Rovers were second row Scott Whiteley, substitute Matt Taylor and winger Alex Pendlebury.
Ben Dixon, Alex Pendlebury, Kieran Moore, Dan Fearnley, Karlton Bates, Ryan Brown, Dec Leonard, Ryan Palin, Adam Files, Ryan Hickman, Craig Lawton, Scott Whiteley, Harry Files.

Woolston Rovers ‘A’ put in a much-improved performance from the display last week before succumbing to defeat at high-flying Golborne Parkside in the NWML Division Two.
The first half was keenly contested for the most part but the home side had that little extra bit of composure at crucial times and built up a 24-10 half time lead. Rovers scored tries through prop forward Tom Fagan and scrum half Chris Forster with Forster adding one conversion.
The second half was a similar tale with Rovers having plenty of opportunities but some strong defence from Golborne kept them at bay for the large part and it was the Parksiders who were able to run out 42-16 victors. The Rovers second half try was scored by second row Patryk Mazur with Forster adding the extras.
Best for Rovers were second row Patryk Mazur, scrum half Chris Forster and second row Craig Woolvine.
Louis Griffiths, Andy Ward, Simon Bishop, Kyle Cherrett, Joe Oakes, Dom Ball, Chris Forster, Ben Crewe, Jack Hancock, Tom Fagan, Craig Woolvine, Patryk Mazur, Jay-Jay Catterall.
Subs: Tom Atherton, Tom Harvey, Lewis Dawson, Rob Campbell.
Woolston Rovers bounced back from last week’s defeat when they came from behind to win at Hindley in a very competitive Hatton’s Solicitors Conference League Division Three game.
The game was in the melting pot throughout with both sides giving it their all in a very even contest but it was the extra skill and composure of the Rovers players in the closing stages that saw them get a much-needed victory to keep alive their promotion hopes.
Hindley opened the scoring in the second minute when scrum half Kieran Whittle broke through the Rovers defence to score at the left of the posts. Hooker Steve Sutcliffe converted and then eleven minutes later the home side managed to keep the ball alive in the tackle and find whittle who raced forty metres to score in the right corner.
Rovers got on the scoreboard just after the midway point of the half when a repeat set allowed pressure to be exerted on the Hindley line and some lovely handling saw the ball reach stand off Scott Whiteley whose smart pass sent second row Scott Davidson clear to score. Scrum half Daniel O’Brien added the conversion and then on the half hour Rovers were level when a lovely ball from second row Paul Alcock put centre Sean Conway over on the left.
Two minutes before the break Hindley edged ahead when Sutcliffe landed a penalty goal after Rovers were punished for dissent to give his side a slender 12-10 half time advantage.
The second half was nip and tuck with both sides giving their all but it was Rovers who went back in front on fifty five minutes when a move started by Conway was carried on by Alcock who dodged his way through the Hindley defence on a forty metre run before sending a lovely ball out to centre Dan Heaton who raced forty metres to score but again the lead changed hands as Hindley loose forward Carl Burgess intercepted a Rovers pass and raced fifty metres to score. Sutcliffe added the conversion.
As the game entered the final ten minutes a fine ball from Conway found Alcock who dummied his way round the Hindley defence to score in the left corner. O’Brien landed a superb touchline conversion to put Rovers two points ahead and then three minutes from time they made the game safe when a 40/20 from O’Brien gave his side head and feed at the scrum and good handling saw the ball eventually reach Davidson who forced his way over. O’Brien slotted over the extras to give Rovers a very hard fought but deserved 26-18 victory.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers hooker Ben Moores. He was very well supported by second row pair Scott Davidson and Paul Alcock along with centre Sean Conway.
Troy Brophy, Ryan Cosgrove, Sean Conway, Dan Heaton, James Rosson, Scott Whiteley, Daniel O’Brien, Mark Robinson, Ben Moores, Matt Clarke, Scott Davidson, Paul Alcock, Chris Mellor.
