I would like to wish you all a very warm welcome to The Limestone Construction Field, Monks Sports Club this afternoon for our game against Waterhead Warriors in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two.
We welcome the players, supporters and committee of Waterhead to Woolston and hope that they have had a safe journey and enjoy our hospitality today
Today’s game really does promise to be an absolute cracker between two in-form teams. Waterhead currently head the table with Dewsbury Moor Maroons in second place and Rovers third; all three sides have won seven games so far, although Rovers have played a game more than the other two.
Last weekend saw Rovers travel to Normanton Knights and they produced by far their best display of the season so far to rack up a half century of points and claim an excellent 50-16 win; a similar performance will be needed today if we are to keep our 100% home record intact.
Our NWML side returned to action last Saturday for the first time in a month and it showed as they suffered a heavy loss to a very good Newton Storm side; today they travel to Golborne Parkside hoping to bounce back to winning ways.
Today is a special day for the club as we host the Warrington Wolves Academy game against Newcastle Thunder; this game kicks off at 12.00pm with our game against Waterhead commencing an hour later than usual at 3.30pm and we thank Waterhead for agreeing to this change.
From a personal point of view this is perfect for me; as Team Manager of the Wolves Academy it is very special to have them playing here at Woolston and it also allows me to watch both of my teams!
Next Sunday (28th May) our Under 14s Greens entertain Shevington Sharks in the BARLA National Cup Semi Final; please come down to Monks’ and give the lads your full support as they aim to reach the National Cup Final. Kick off is 11.30am (see poster in today’s programme).
Our very first Beer Festival will take place on Friday 30th June and Saturday 1st July; please keep your eyes peeled to our social Media channels for further details over the next couple of weeks. There is also a poster regarding this in today’s programme.
Also in the programme you can find the fixtures for our Junior teams who play tomorrow. We have plenty of excellent players (and coaches) within our Junior ranks so if you have a spare hour or two in the morning please try and get along and show them your support.
Thanks for your attendance today and we hope to see you again very soon. Why not bring a friend along with you next time and introduce them to the Rovers!!!

Woolston Rovers returned to winning ways with a very polished display to defeat Milford in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club.
Rovers got off to the perfect start when winger Tom Byrne opened the scored in the first minute but seven minutes later Milford replied with a try from prop forward Joe Tharme that hooker Jake Payne converted.
On twenty four minutes Rovers were back ahead when loose forward Scott Whiteley found centre Ben Dixon who then exchanged passes with scrum half Dec Leonard as space was created for Leonard to go over. Dixon converted and then just before the half hour mark Milford lost the ball on their own line and Rovers second row Sam Vernon picked up the loose ball to score on the right. Dixon added the conversion.
Eight minutes before the break Rovers moved further clear when prop forward Harry Files powered over for a try. Dixon converted to give his side a 22-6 interval advantage as Milford ended the half temporarily reduced to twelve men when substitute Ryan Pinder was yellow carded for foul play.
Four minutes into the second half Rovers substitute Sean Boyle was sin binned for foul play but that didn’t seem to affect his teammates as they stretched their lead just before he returned to the field when Leonard found substitute Craig Lawton on the last tackle and he brushed off three defenders to score wide out on the left.
Rovers next try came when Boyle went down the short side and found centre Kieran Moore who took three defenders with him over the line to score in the right corner and then three minutes from time a mazy diagonal run from the impressive Leonard saw him score wide out on the left to complete a 34-4 success for Rovers.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers scrum half Dec Leonard. He was very well supported by substitutes Matt Taylor and Sean Boyle.

Woolston Rovers produced a stunning display to claim a big win at Normanton Knights in the Impact Performance National Conference League Division Two game at Queen Elizabeth Drive in Wakefield last Saturday afternoon.
Rovers got off to the perfect start when they opened the scoring after only three minutes via a try from hooker Adam Files. Centre Ben Dixon converted and six minutes later stand off Ryan Brown went over. Dixon added the conversion.
Shortly afterwards A Files went over for his second try. Dixon converted but then Normanton opened their account just after the midway point of the half with a try from scrum half Kieran Hinchcliffe and five minutes before the break substitute Clark Thompson crossed for a try. Full back Charlie Barker added the conversion to make the half time score 18-10 to Rovers.
Three minutes into the second half Rovers second row Dan Fearnley scored. Full back Theo Holt converted but then Thompson went over for his second try for the home side and stand off Jacob Crossland added the conversion.
Rovers then really went into over drive as winger Kieran Jones scored out wide and that was followed just before the hour when A Files completed a fine hat trick. Holt added the conversion before winger Karlton Bates went over wide out.
Rovers Welsh substitute Blake Turner then went over for a debut try that Holt converted and in the final minute scrum half Dec Leonard scored. Leonard brought up the half century with the conversion as Rovers celebrated a brilliant 50-16 success.
