FACILITY MASTER PLAN (FMP) UPDATE:

The Grand Traverse County / City of Traverse City Facilities Master Plan (FMP) project kicked off this week with an introductory presentation to department managers Our consultants at TowerPinkster shared the process they will be used to assess our existing facilities and develop recommendations to effectively plan for current and future needs

What's Happening Now?

Facility assessment walk-throughs will take place next week on March 23 and 24 for most buildings. The walkthroughs for the rest of the buildings will occur in April.

What to know:

Teams including Joe Berry, Chris Forsyth and our experts at TowerPinkster will be walking through each facility to gather baseline assessments of what currently exists. There is no need for you to be present during these walk-throughs, however it would be helpful to have all office spaces as accessible as possible during your scheduled time Schedules for March 23 & 24 have been shared with department managers

What's up next?

We will be reaching out to schedule conversations with each department to gather more information in the coming weeks

March 16, 2023

Traverse City, Michigan - Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 19 - 25, 2023. This week serves as a great time for Michigan families, businesses, and schools to practice what they would do if a severe weather event occurs.

During this week, the Annual Statewide Tornado Drill also takes place on Wednesday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Grand Traverse County Emergency Management will be testing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System for the drill This time can be used to consider where you would go if an actual tornado warning had been issued.

Below are a few tips on how to prepare for a severe weather event.

Flood

• Do not walk, swim, drive, or boat through flood waters.

• Stay off bridges over fast-moving water

• Evacuate where you are if told to do so.

• Move to higher ground or floor

• Stay where you are unless told otherwise.

Tornado/Straight-line Winds

• Go to a safe room, basement, or storm cellar.

• If there is no basement, go to a small, interior room on the lowest level

• Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls

• If you can safely get to a sturdy building, do so immediately.

• Do not go under an overpass or bridge

• Watch out for flying debris that can cause injury or death.

• Use your arms to protect your head and neck Thunderstorm, lightning, or hail

• When thunder roars, go indoors

• Move from outdoors into a building or car.

• Pay attention to alerts and warnings.

• Unplug appliances

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

HEALTHYAIRFRYERPARMESANCHICKENWITHBROCCOLI

1/3 cup panko

1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan

4 teaspoons olive oil

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 small boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 ounces each)

1 1/2 tablespoons plus 1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard

2 cups small broccoli florets (about 5 ounces)

1/4 cup low-fat plain yogurt

Finely grated zest and juice of 1/2 lemon

Stir together the panko, Parmesan, 2 teaspoons of the olive oil, the oregano, pinch of salt and a couple grinds of pepper in a shallow bowl or small baking dish until thoroughly combined Pat the chicken dry between a couple paper towels, then sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper Brush both sides of the chicken with 1 1/2 tablespoons of the Dijon, then press into the pankoParmesan mixture, making sure both sides are evenly coated

Toss the broccoli, remaining 2 teaspoons of the olive oil, a good pinch of salt and several grinds of pepper in a medium bowl until evenly coated

Preheat a 3 5-quart air fryer to 375 degrees F Add the chicken to the air-fryer basket and cook until it’s starting to brown and crisp on the top, about 6 minutes Flip the chicken over with tongs and position in the center of the basket, then scatter the broccoli around the perimeter. Continue air-frying until the chicken is crisp all over and an instant-read thermometer inserted in the middle registers 160 degrees F, and the broccoli is tender and charred, about 8 minutes more

Meanwhile, stir together the yogurt, lemon zest and juice, remaining 1/4 teaspoon Dijon, a pinch of salt and several grinds of pepper in a small bowl Serve alongside the chicken and broccoli for dipping
