Bring vs Buy
Pro Tip: Make sure to have apps (Switch Tech and GOCard) ready for move-in!
We recommend flying into Reagan National (DCA) or Dulles (IAD) nstead of BWI Ride-hailing services and cabs are usually vailable at all times and are not as pricey from there.
you ' re driving, for directions, type this address into your GPS: 700 O St NW, Washington, DC 20057 or the Canal Rd Entrance Need a hotel? We find that the most affordable hotels are across the bridge in Rosslyn, VA
Use Google Flights to compare different dates & prices! Tickets are cheaper on Tuesdays & Wednesdays! Always try to book directly through the airline's website.
Connecting flights are usually cheaper, but make sure you have plenty of time to switch gates (1 hour minimum)!

Avoid additional fees: review carry-on/checked bag policies. Southwest Airlines offers 2 free checked bags! Include rides to/from the airport in your travel budget ($15-60). For breaks, book flights early & round-trip, but be sure to check your syllabus & exam schedule first!
Make sure to "check in" online 24 hours before your flight. Print or have your ticket set up your phone and keep it in safe place (Apple Wallet).
Watch out for liquids! Make sure to put those larger than 3 4 oz in your checked bag. For other rules, check the Transportation Security Administration's website. Packing snacks can save you from overpriced food at the airport Have your government issued ID in a secure but handy location so you can easily access it when it has to be checked
Make sure to keep the bag under the weight limit (most will be 50 lbs.) to avoid paying fees and having to rearrange your luggage. Keep all important/valuable items (wallets, chargers, prescriptions, etc) on you (in your personal item or carry-on), in case there are baggage delays or your suitcase gets lost. Don’t miss your flight! Plan accordingly to avoid that stress
Incoming first-year and new transfer students will move in on Thursday, August 22nd & Friday, August 23rd
You should be receiving an email in advance about checking into your room & using the SwitchTech App (this is your dorm key)!
Try to arrive at campus as close to your assigned move-in window (30 minutes) as possible to avoid delays
Check Hoya Housing for your time and details!
If you are doing a pre-orientation program, your move-in date is likely earlier Check with your program for info!
Call the Office of Residential Living at 202-687- 4560 for questions
Use Georgetown's Online Campus Map, which has a Wayfinding tool to find a walkable path between two locations or your GPS to find locations on campus. After move-in, walk around and note important buildings for your classes and activities.
If you ’ re leaving campus, check for exits near your current location. For example, if you are in Darnall and are heading North towards Trader Joe’s or Safeway, exit campus next to St Mary’s to save time!
