Our Mission and Values
To make the mentorship experience meaningful, be responsive, curious, authentic, vulnerable, open-minded, and present. Developing a relationship takes consistent work.
In your mentorship relationships, remember FIBER:
Family
Inclusivity
Mentorship is a network. Support and rely on each other. When you can, offer a hand or a shoulder to the people around you, and trust they have your back too!
Pay attention to your surroundings and work to make those around you feel comfortable and welcomed. Thank you for taking time to care for each other.
Balance
Engagement
Understanding the balance for the social, personal, and professional aspects of your mentor-mentee relationships, your relationship to GSP staff, and your relationships to peers can help you provide and accept the best guidance.
Be ready and prepared for anything. Be present, active, and open to new relationships and new ideas. Get to know those around you, and encourage your neighbors to engage fully and immerse themselves in their surroundings.
Respect
Treat each other with respect. Respect each other’s time. Listen to each other, respond to each other, and communicate if something comes up.
How to Reach Out
Mentors should reach out to mentees. Mentees, make sure you respond when they reach out! Even if you miss a message, reach back out when you can. If something comes up and you need to take time for yourself, or miss a meeting, be communicative. More important than any words you choose to say is the fact that you choose to say something.
You can text or email your mentor/mentee to reach out. Try to be open and authentic. Make plans to meet in person as soon as you can. GSP provides funds so you can grab a bite to eat or go on adventure together. Here is an example starter conversation!
Hi! This is Cece, your GSPeer mentor! I’d love to meet up. Do you have time this week?
Hey! Nice to meet you! Things are hectic rn... Are you free to meet next weekend?
I’m free Saturday afternoon if that works. Would you want to go to the flea market and maybe grab lunch around 12?
Sounds great! :) Meet at the front gates Saturday at 12?
Can’t wait!
